How do you know that these "chinese" dresses were not really Vietnamese inventions? Afterall, chinese culture & civilization would not be what it is today with the thousands of gifted Vietnamese men who were sent to china as "gifts" from our vassal state. Sure. Even the main architect of Forbidden City in Beijing-the capital of Ming, Qing and communist China-is a Vietnamese man, and his name is Nguyen An. In 1381, Nguyen An was born in Ha Dong, which is a part of Hanoi nowadays. Later Ming invaded Vietnam and took Nguyen An to China. Ming Dynasty's historians admitted this in their books. Yes, Chinese books.

Chinese writting letters are so complicated, and it is really complicated to use on typerwriter & computer and for printing.

The latin alphabet letters are easy to use on computer and printing machine. Only 26 alphabet letters & 10 numbers, we can write many thousand words & any numbers in many languages. We can use them in many popular languages such as English, French, Spanish. We also use latin alphabet letters & numbers to write software for computer program too!

@Kleinlxn All that is well , however the Japanese and Korean use CHinese characters in a different way and oftner mean something slightly different. Difficult they are to anyone and even to the CHinese themselves who forget them often. Illiteracy in China is a huge problem. Using Chinese on the web does not make it any easier to use. It is however a beautiful writing, but true enough, more diffieult to use thatn English or other alphabetic languages on the net.

At that time, only some Vietnamese, who fell behind Vietnam civilized society & used Han Chinese letters, wore dresses similiar like Chinese. Vietnamese already wore their own costume or dressing similiar European costume at that time.

However, all VN dressing in this video are not from Chinese dressing. Some of them are VN tradition dressing.

In 1910s, Vietnam was a civilized society much more than when Vietnam was invaded by China!.At that time,Vietnamese were smart enough to get rid off the stupid old Han Chinese letters, which China invaders forced Vietnamese to use! Great vid! Im not sure how the Ming Dynasty dresses, but the photos in this are very authentic. Got to commend you for it.I'm curious as to where you got these archives from? Are some the works Albert Kahn's? I recognise the colour photography techiniques of his. I've seen a few of these on a BBC doco.
