what tool are you using to color the artwork once you have penned it out?? it is two spaces under the eyedropper with your setup...i can't tell...i have been using live paint, but i hate trying to figure out gradient fills with live paint...your method seems to give you more control on gradients/their direction...what is it that you use or if is is live paint, how did you do that?
are u using any kind of brushes to give the shapes that organic feeling? cuz one second they are just gradients but then the tones mix way different and there are very thin lines in some of them i want to know how is that done or what technique it seems legit!
love the design, but find the coloring a bit flat, i'm not dissing your style, just think you could have done more with the piece. perhaps a cooler color on the back would make it more 'pop'
between 3:38 and 3:39 there seems to be a bit of the process left out. From flat to "magic." The texture in the "post 3:39" phase is absolutely astounding.
You could have saved yourself some time by using artbrushes for some of the swirls. They're not perfect but they do save time. I use them a lot and I set hotkeys to converts the strokes to paths and to clean up any empty paths and points afterwards. Also, I don't know if you did this in the video but when you select multiple objects then use the gradient tool then all object get the gradient so it looks blended.
How do you make the lines so easily with the pen tool? After every curve I do with the pen tool the next click has a curve in it that I don't want so I have to adjust it every time and it doesn't look like you had to do that at all. Is there a certain thing that you have to choose so it doesn't do that? By the way awesome job on all of the art!
@iDeathFX In short, you need to experiment with utilizing the 'Alt key' when drawing your path. It allows you to quickly adjust the bezier curve as you're drawing. Check out a pen tool tutorial on youtube and you'll see what I mean.
@BmoreStyles alright thanks! I'm taking a class for Adobe Illustrator and I don't remember if we were informed about that or not but I'll definitely have to test it out when I have class again.
@iDeathFX Mastering Bezier curves (aka Pen Tool) is not so easy. At 2:52 the large orange swirl, you lay down ur anchor points first, go back & adjust them by using the white arrow tool. Select the anchor point with white arrow tool then use Alt for PC, Option for Mac, to adjust the curve. Mastering the Pen Tool is vital & one of the most difficult skills in Ai. Practice & practice.
@iDeathFX (continued) you don't need to lay it down perfectly on the first pass. Lay down your points near perfect on the first pass, then adjust them. It's important not to have too many anchor points. An expert like Bmore can lay down a swirl (like the one at 2:52) with less than 18 anchor points.
It's quicker with a mouse to be honest... vector art is btter with a mouse and more accurate. Leave tabs for image editors and paint programs. The process in this video is very time-consuming but worth it in the end...

@BmoreStyles Wow that's very artistic. Where did you happen to go to school, or did you teach yourself? Have you had any job offers in the Graphic Design field?
@MrLapinga69 Art Institute of York, PA. But tutorials and practice is how I got to where I'm at. And yes I've had success as a designer. I've been very fortunate to have had a job in the field since the day I graduated.
Wow that is amazing. i think if you reduce the speed of the video will be work a little bit as a tutorial ate least to get some steps. I guess you know by now that you are incredible talent. Thanks for sharing your video

@treehuggerlikesnoopy I used a gradient. You select the shape and change the fill from a solid to a gradient, and then if you hit "G" after you've filled it with a gradient, you can click inside the shape and drag the direction you want the gradient to go. You can also open up your gradients window to change it to a radial gradient and reverse it and so forth.

@MynahProductions I believe you're referring to the white stroke I apply around the outside of the colored portion? If so, you can see where I draw a thin, pointy tipped stroke with the pen tool around 2:16, then with the shape selected go to brushes palette on the right and click the "New Brush" icon at the bottom of it. Then select "New Art Brush" from the menu, mess with settings, then just select it from the palette and draw paths, or you can select a path and apply it to that, as well.
Youve got 2 many freetime...no joke relly great work! I really really like it! ^.^
