I drive the A6 3.0T Avant as my everyday car. My wife drives the Mercedes 250 E-class CGI. Must say I love the Audi, and I really think it's the best car I've ever owned. As it's an Avant it's also very practical and gives you more ways to use the car.
Wow the A6 is so nice. It makes me feel bad about favoring the S6 for not much more reason than the seductive V8 sound. I even favor the slightly softer suspension for highway cruising.
i don't see how this is an improvement. Even chrysler's new pentastar 3.6 liter v6 makes almost 300 hp, but it only has 0.6 more liters of displacement and no supercharger.
@khav11 chrysler is shitt and so is audi. The german cars are looking nicer on the outside, but really sucking these days in performance, reliability, and price
@drippinblood28 germans always been no so reliable price always been very high because of the brand like mercedez etc... and the performance u made a point but still quite cool to drive and its so top notch
@AddictedToStangs Supercharger means an even wider torque band than the 4.2, not sure on how the weight stacks up between the two and these models got a different transmission than the 5 speed in the older models like I have (and am assuming you do too)
i wouldn't buy this car just yet, Audi should be coming out with a new A6 model, and when it does come out, your going to regret buying this model of the A6 instead of the new one.
ok so the e- class is new but what i like about audi is that their designs are timeless. i bet that after 10 years also the audi would look still mean and sexy at it does today. :D
audi- clean lines, the best interior quality, perfect match between sporty and comfort. :D
the new E class is nothing compared to this car. CAR and DRIVER magazine sept 09 issue placed the A6 above 4 other luxury mid size sedans. the E class came in last place.
This is a superb car; but it is never wise to rubbish it's quality German competitors. If you buy the most suitable engine the new E Class is a darned nice and comfortable car. I always admire the A6 Audi. Even a front wheel drive version is easier to handle on ice over rear wheel drive.
With due respect jimpodi. Mercedes E Class prices have been slashed in certain countries. In Ireland you don't go out and buy cars with as big an engine as the one on this video. I thoroughly respect the top three German makers. Audi, Mercedes and BMW are all fantastic cars. I love each make. Obviously in my case I would have to go for smaller engine. With these cars it is just a matter of personal taste.
starting prices: E class 48K, audi A5 39K, bmw 335i 42K. the E class has 268 bhp - similiar to the audi, yet it costs almost 10K more! and it's not even AWD! the bmw 335i has an impressive twin turbo in line which produces 300 bhp. bottom line: the mercedes is way overpriced. these are USA numbers btw.
You are in a different country with a different price structure. I am interested in the saloon models. All these cars cost vastly more in my country. They have done big price drops with our awful recession. Mercedes is normally dearer than Audi. In the UK cars are much cheaper than in Dublin. They did a special on an E Class, I buy a magazine. The Jaguar XF is popular but not cheap.
As I mentioned, if you buy a large engined car here they kill you with tax. Audi A6, MercedesE Class, the brand new shaped BMW 5 series (Chris Bangle has left) and Jaguar XF are all lovely cars. The new E Class here has a lovely ride quality and they have added an incredible amount of safety technology. BMW are adding a lot of extras as well.
Of course on icy roads, the Audi Quattro would be marvellous. Even the normal front wheel drive would be better than the rear wheel drive of it's competitors. It is easier to handle front wheel drive on ice. There were many reports of this on Honest Johns UK forum in his car site last winter.
Ok, so tell me this... What would be the lowest price that I could buy a pre-owned or even a new 2009 A6 in Ireland?.. The reason I'm asking is that I live in a different country and I want to know how recession affects prices in certain countries... Thx... :=)
@yucko1990 I will get back to you when I get the chance to properly check out the details. I notice they have slashed the price of the new E Class here. It used to be incredibly high here.
@yucko1990 I have checked it out: A new 2010 A6 2.0 TDI Multitronic Auto saloon is going for 42,535 euros excluding delivery and other charges. They have absolutely slashed prices because almost no one can sell. The new model new shape 220 diesel E Class is now around 42,000 euros. The old shape E Class 200 petrol a couple of years ago used well over 70,000 euros.
@cattleman6420012000 in our country(Lithuania) where the recession has struck even worse, the brand new A6 costs 34000 euros. And last year, for 70000 euros you could've bought a new A8 W12 or S8... See, we have most of the things cheaper here, but you have the better wages... A few years ago I myself have bought a pre-owned 2000 A8 4.2, for guess how much?.. 2500 euros. Yep, only 2,5 g's. Terrific car. But tell me agian, what was that about the engine capacity tax you were talking about?..
@yucko1990 they charge you a fortune if you have a large engine here. If you get the low powered "green" models of these cars, the tax you pay is far far less. Like Mercedes blue efficiency and VW have a similar thing.
why is there no number in front?:D

BettyBoo01100 1 year ago
if this has 300 hp, and a 2003 audi a6 has 300 hp in the v8 version, why is it that this is an entire second faster 0-60 than the older model?
AddictedToStangs 1 year ago
@AddictedToStangs torque and prob some computer tweeks.
poopwarrior8 1 year ago
@AddictedToStangs
better suspension, less heavy. A v8 is heavy, a v6 is less heavy.
new cars have improved technical advances under the hood etc that results in better drivability and endurance which leads to better performance.
