Well the body is almost definitely an SG and they do make SG's with single coil pick-ups.

do the person who asked if this was live recorded yes it was. it looks like a music video and sounds as good as a track from the record because it was recorded "live" in the abbey roads studio and they set up a bunch of cameras to film the band play then edited it to make it look kind of like a music video. it's nearly flawless and if you ask me sounds better than the record version

Mayer's got everything of the 'classic' guitarist about him, in the vein of Clapton etc., whereas Frusciante veers towards more of the texture and effects-driven sounds, whilst still proficient in bluesy licks (see 'hey' and even the solo in 'dani california) he is more of a tone and texture expert. I personally rate these two as the best guitarists around at the moment, bar none.

I'd consider people like jimmy Herring, Chuck Garvey, Al Schnier, Dweezil Zappa, Derek Trucks, Trey Anastasio etc., to be on par if not better guitarists. by that I mean more chops, technique etc., not emotion (which all of the mentioned guitarists have) which can't truly be measured. But thats just one man's opinion. As far as the comparison between the two I agree with you.

Mayer seems to to have better grip on writing catchy by still musically inspiring songs, as does the entirety of the red hot chili peppers.
