It is hard to understand how some people can like this crippled hyena look. It is unethical to breed an animal so far removed from the norm, especially from the natural beauty of the wolf-like German shepherd. There is no way this can be healthy or right for the dog. Dog shows are becoming increasingly unethical, forgetting that breeding dogs is all about producing the best pet (what most puppies are destined to be) and only focussing on an extreme look and winning ribbons.
@tehkittehcat When my GSD pulls on the leash she does not look lower. And anyways, why would you want to select for dogs who pull on leashes, this shows bad temperament and poor trainability.........
@CreekValleyCritters My german shepherd doesnt pull on leash at all and when he walks hes not that low...but when he trotting he looks lower...and Btw my Show GSD is trained for protection...he plays like other other dogs at the park and everything...
@CreekValleyCritters They are not selected for that, they are trained to walk ahead of the handlers on command in the show ring, and all that comotion you hear, whistles, bells, shouts etc, That is not cheering crowds, those are "doublers" trying to keep the dogs looking forward and ears up. Most of the dogs you see in these videos heel beautifully when asked. Only the poorly trained dogs are pulling hard.
Look at alex schwarzen seeperlen, he looks great, he would be exactly like Vegas if he was not black, what do you think. He has the same coat and conformation, a fantastic looking male.
yes, there is a big concept about show and working lines, yes, they are different, but there is no reason to be nasty to us about the type of dog we choose to love.
I love the breed as a whole and you will see many show people feel the same way. We don't like to be put down, we may see faults in your line, but we don't have to justify this by being mean to one another.
Nothing against showline dogs (mine is half west german show and half east german working), but why do you think theyre called "show" and "working" lines. One is for looks and the other is to work.
Working line GSD's have a better bone structure to work and move and showlines have the bone structure to trot and are for show/looks. I mean just look at the showline dogs in this video. They look like they can barely walk.

It is so sad what has been done to the German shepherd. The beautiful athletic healthy wolf-like dog of 50 years ago has been turned into a freakish cripple. How anyone can find that beautiful is beyond me. We humans are designed to find the healthy and natural beautiful and the unhealthy and unnatural ugly, so only a small elite group of warped dog show people will find these dogs attractive. For the rest of us these dogs only perpetuate the poor reputation of the modern German shepherd.
@CreekValleyCritters, the angulation kinda grows on you. Wait till you get a GSD with a sloped back, you'll not go back to the straightback. Their trot is just out of this world. But I can see why you are so against it. In this video, some dogs do look like they have HD. I have a 8-month showline GSD male and he looks awesome - way more elegant than my previous straightback GSD.
A showline shepherd is only good for one thing... for show/looks. To me a gsd with too much angulation like the ones in the video look like theyre crippled. I've got a straight back shepherd and i'll bet anything none of the dogs in this video can run/maneuver and most importantly work anything like how a straightback shepherd can. It's kind of sad when you see dogs like in this video. They look like theyre constipated when they walk. Either that or in a lot of pain. Just my opinion though

Some large show males pace. It is a way of moving without expelling lots of their energy.
Also they are designed, if that is the term you choose, to trot longer then the working dogs.
I can only speak for my dog, she can trot all day. My yard has a figure 8 she made herself.

My dog hits and bites just like working dogs and she is not over angulated.
She just got an 85 pt track in trial. And she jumps over hurdles as good as a working dog.

If you see a show dog with poor biting, it is because they don't work them, they only show them. They will tell you that.
