  • Carl Sagan has always been an inspiration to me from childhood. Growing up in the christian home, it was shows like these that led me to truly open my eyes and learn about the complexity and beauty of our universe and to see that a belief in god is unnecessary.

  • I liked before i watched because i knew i was going to like :)

  • Be built and rebuild the life history trace distance from the past to the future. Engage all gears which existed; is engaged.

    人生歴史軌跡道程を過去から未来へ建て立て直す。存在した全ての歯車も噛み合わせる噛み合う。

  • Someone resurect carl sagan please

  • what an awesome video thank you so much for upload!!!

  • epic, the greatest saga ever written

  • We need more people like Carl Sagan.

  • Even if evolution isn't true, the story of evolution is a LOT more awesome than some dude that created it all just like that. Evolution is a fact and it's frickin awesome as well.

  • Please watch video 2/9 of "Cosmos, Creator and Human Destiny" to see an interesting perspective of Carl Sagan.

  • @RaiderSix lol, I definitely chuckled at "Sagan the Pagan." I wouldn't say Carl worshiped the Cosmos but was simply awestruck by it's grandeur- realizing why early cultures easily worshiped the Sun and heavens. But the cheap shots later in the video at space "exploration" were a bit low. Without that "explorer" gene we all seem to have built into us- possibly as a survival mechanism, we wouldn't be here! Please watch: 11th Foundational Falsehood of Creationism. It is highly informative, thanks.

  • @Cyraside why dont you fuck off? i understand free speech, but the majority of people watching this, believe in it; so why dont you save your love for your religion for videos which are actually related to it. or indeed for when you are being groped by an old priest when you are at church.

    and im a confirmed Catholic

  • @Blink182DudeRanch It's fallacious and laughable at best to even suggest that evolution or a natural view of the universe & life is somehow "religious." Science and reality has absolutely nothing to do with religion and don't be fooled by those who say otherwise. This is because religion- all of them, at heart, are really nothing more than a crutch for those who can't accept their own mortality. And don't bring that "I'm a confirmed Catholic" dialogue over here as if that's somehow important.

  • @Cyraside i apologise for that, in my haste i replied to your comment when i was actually trying to reply to 'raiderSix's' comment.

i mentioned being a confirmed Catholic because it shows that i was brought up to believe in God but as ive grown up and taken a big interest in Science ive disproved God's existence.

  • @Blink182DudeRanch That makes sense because your comment definitely felt a little oddly placed, but I bit anyway. Take care and be careful about saying that you've "disproved" God, because that implies that there was something proven in the first place, or that the burden of proof is on the non-believers. In reality a personal, human-interacting and loving God is straight out of a children's fairy tale. Just look at history, science, and the world. There's no indication such an entity exists.

  • @Cyraside you're very very wise, and 100% correct.

  • I don't know whether to laugh or cry for people that believe this stuff. This guy is just making stuff up as he goes along while speaking with a strange cadence.

  • @RaiderSix I'd totally agree that his "cadence" may sound somewhat imaginative, but this was simply his way of "popularizing" science to the general public. What he said here wasn't just made up on the fly, no, far from it. He didn't even scratch the surface of the knowledge we've gained in the past few hundred years. It shocks me that you dismiss evolution and the natural history of life in light of so much of what science does know today and how that knowledge is readily available.

  • Gold

  • He moved me when I was a kid back in 1980, and he moves me now. I read the book till it fell apart, then got my dad to buy me another copy. It's because of him that I became interested in science, he makes it so accessible, even joyful, the simple pleasure of knowing.

  • 3:40 mirrior this this rules!

  • The evolution is stop now?? Because Carl Sagan say so???Where are the intemediate between each species now on earth..oh yeah, evolution is stop,i was about to forget..lolllllllllllllll Contunu acting stupid,Politicians need you to get richer..

  • What about Jesus and God? D:

  • Spirituality and science are the SAME THING, the universe is made up of many dimensions while we reside on this density within reality. There is life elsewhere, Extraterrestrials!

    God, Jesus, Buddha

  • RIP Carl Sagan , One of the smartest finest minds in history

  • Carl said, "We are star stuff." and "a way for the cosmos to know itself."

In fact, all the atoms on earth and in our bodies came from supernova that blew up over 5 billion years ago.

Really, aren't we all just walking, talking stardust -- this cosmos become AWAKE and looking it back at itself? -- and aren't we intimately connected to it all?

    Happy New Year!

    enjoy the dance . . .

  • Carl was a poet; beauty and wonder flowed out of him. When I listen to him, its also most like a spiritual revelation. Science is the study of the universe, there can be nothing more spiritual than to explore who we really and where we came from.

  • Carl had the smoothest delivery with this stuff. I wish he had a cooking show, and could teach me to work on my car. I still wouldn't be able to cook or work on my car... I haven't made it to space or even New York yet. I had a point......I KNOW I did....

  • I have Spore on my mobile phone, and that's a funny game! That's the only version I've tried, by the way. : )

  • Reminds me of Spore. Lol.

  • great video...

  • Sagan was the greatest dreamer of our age. His dreams made generations dream of a better world.

  • Unfortunately, the possibility that we will destroy ourselves is more likely.....

  • Why do you say "WE"?

Are you going to kill yourself?

I am not going to kill myself. I am not going to allow anyone else to kill me.

  • Unless there is a nuclear war (etc)... That is what he means by 'destroy ourselves'. If that happened none of us would really have a choice.

  • Why wouldn't have a choice?

You don't think we can prevent this?

  • How much of a choice do you have in Kim Jong Il's decision to fire nuclear weapons at as many countries possible.

Of course it is preventable, because it is only a possibility. Possibilities are expected and thus not beyond a system of control. How much control is the issue.

  • You talking about North Korea? We don't even have evidence that they even have nuclear weapons (from the reports I have seen). Even if they did, the supply isn't infinite. I doubt they can do more damage than a couple Hiroshimas. After that, they will be attacked by superior armed forces.

I think our biggest threat in the next decade is our economy.

I envy those people in India and other countries that have built a community on permaculture.

  • You do realize that any nuclear strike will cascade into everyone launching any nuclear missiles they are stockpiling, and that America alone has stockpiled enough to blast everyone to liquid shit, right?

  • You can't make an ASSUMPTION that "everyone" will cascade into shooting off nuclear warheads...

  • 7:22 - p0rn!

  • a great video. shame he looks a bit like chris de burg poor thing.

  • How wonderful.

    It almost makes me emotional.

  • I just feel sorry for Homo-Erectus... they never stood a chance of getting into heaven.

How could they accept gentle Jesus into their hearts...

Much love Carl Sagan, he lives on.

  • Your comment makes me smile :D

  • Excellent.

CARL SAGAN was the wise man of 20th century.

    We missed you dearly.

  • A Superb creation!

  • Amir, you may be on to something....I watched your string theory video and learned more than I knew before. The bible verses puzzled me though.....were you just using them as props?

  • People like carl sagan remind me that there is hope for this race.

  • This video made me cry. 5 stars

  • All the answers to the creation vs. evolution "debate" are all at talkorigins(dot)org. Fundamentalist batshit wackjobs should take their time and read through all of it, carefully and slowly. You know, allow it to sink in real good.

  • Great video.

It should be shown in churches on Sundays to Christ-psychotics instead of the compilation of fairy tales that they have been repeating ad nauseam for over 1700 years stagnating their brain making them retarded, intolerant, deluded, self righteous & ignorant.

  • Perfect comment.

  • I think it's important how the reptiles were touched upon in this video. All humans today have an 'medulla oblongata' which is a reptilian brain itself. We are all reptilians in the flesh but yet people still try to debunk this or not accept the truth.

  • Amazing and Wonderful! I will feature this on my channel!

  • Thanks for sending this.

    Carl Sagan, an amazing man.

  • This video is the epitome of cosmic excellence. Good Job.

  • Thanks, yeah Carl Sagan owns. This isn't perfect as theres a minor few errors present in it. Check the description for more info.

  • why argue evolution/creationism on youtube? no one is convincing anyone of anything. it's youtube

  • AaronBDisney, you said: "Wow, what a wonderful fairy tale. Pure baloney from beginning to end. It's a shame this garbage is taught as fact."

So what do you propose then? Teaching bronze-age myths, such as "magic sky-man done it in 6 days"? All the claims in this video, especially the ones on evolution, have a overwhelming wealth of evidence backing them up: Fossils, genetics, embryology, etc. What you need is a little education. There's no excuse now to be ignorant since the internet exists.

  • The Bible is consistent with evidence. Evolution is not. Evolution cannot figure out where life comes from. Miller and Urey tried and got a bunch of goo! WOW!

Life must have started with a Creator. Evolution says one creature transforms into another kind of creature. It's never been demonstrated and so it is not science, it is something you have to believe in. It is a religion. There are changes in species, but not kinds. The Bible says they bring forth after their kind. The Bible has it right.

  • The bible is NOT consistent with the evidence. Evolution doesn't comment on the 'origin of life.' Evolution simply explains the fact that a variation of allele frequences in a population can change over time by natural selection and other known mechanisms. Just how the theory of universal gravitation explains the fact of gravity. So an intelligent 'creator' popped out of nowhere and then out of nothing made the universe. The whole idea of God is a logical fail and you know it deep down...

  • The Geologic column and fossil dating is an example of circular reasoning. They date fossils by rocks and rocks by fossils. How can they be that dumb?

The layers were laid down by the great flood 4400 years ago (like the Bible says).

Grand Canyon carved by a river over millions of years??? Gimmie a break. The rim of the canyon is higher at one point by 4000 feet than where the river enters the canyon, rivers don't flow uphill. It's a washed out spillway caused by lakes draining after the flood.

  • This arguement has been repeated to the point of parody. There is no 'perfect' column because sedimentation and erosion occur, and so do angular unconformaties. Circular reasoning? They use radiometric dating and other lines of evidence ya know... The layers were not laid down 4,400 year ago- I'm afraid you're wrong. You're getting your 'facts' from creationist websites... which can be 'appealing' if you're ignorant in real science. I was an A student all through high school. Get an education.

  • there should be tons of intermediary species leading up to humans - instead the brilliant scientists come up with Nebraska man (which was only a tooth from a pig - that was all that was found, and yet they make an entire man from it), Peking man was a bunch of monkey skull fractures in a cave, probably where monkey brain feasts were held). Piltdown man was an apes skull and a human jaw put together with the teeth shaven down. Lucy was a large tree climbing monkey whose knee was found a mile away

  • Nebraska man- Do your research. And watch '13th foundational falsehood of creationism' Pildown man- nobody denies it was a deliberate hoax. Knees from Lucy found a mile away... you're completely lost. The creationist 'conspiracy of science' thing is getting to you huh?

  • homo erectus was (if i remember right) an ape's skullcap, 3 human teeth, and a thighbone of an orangutan. Neanderthal man was said to be just a human living to great age with large bone structure (those hairy cartoon pics are only someone's slanted interpretation).

This boat is sinking guys, don't be the last ones off. The religion of evolution is dying with no evidence. There is no fossil evidence. There is no embryology evidence. They still use Haeckel's fake drawings in textbooks.

  • You have to know that I love to read/watch creationist videos- it helps me further my knowledge. Some of their arguements are intriguing- sometimes even persuasive. Erectus was in fact, a real hominid not a mix-match. Evolution is not a religion. It's a scientific theory supported by mountains of evidence spanning many fields of biology, geology, etc. Religion is dying. In a world of knowledge it's loosing. That's why they recruit homeless and prisoners. They know they'll fall for the bullshit.

  • homo erectus was (if i remember right) an ape's skullcap, 3 human teeth, and a thighbone of an orangutan. Neanderthal man was said to be just a human living to great age with large bone structure (those hairy cartoon pics are only someone's slanted interpretation).

  • I've already replied to this comment. There is fossil evidence. Ever heard of paleontology? Haeckel's drawings are you kidding? That arguement is beyond overused. Have you ever listened to the real scientists before or just get what you know from the creationist' rumor mills? Your sources are false. You should buy a college biology textbook on ebay for $100. Saying evolution isn't real is like saying gravity is 'just a theory,' atomic theory is mistaken and illness is caused by demons. Peace.

  • (AaronBDisney)

Allow me to direct you to a video that examines every single claim you just made, and explains why they are false:

    watch?v=myfifz3C0mI

  • Wow, what a wonderful fairy tale. Pure baloney from beginning to end. It's a shame this garbage is taught as fact.

  • I really wouldn't call it a 'fairy' tale- it's not the Jesus/Santa story here. This is the story that over time scientists have been able to piece together. Faith is an outdated 'guess' and nothing more. Perhaps you don't know enough about phylogenetics and vertebrate paleontology? These are real fields of study- like paleoanthropology, which studies recent human origins and tackles important questions like where/how we got our imagination, language- things of that nature from.

  • You're 33 years old and you don't accept evolution- that's sad kid. So you still believe in the great magic man did it huh? Wow, what a terrible excuse for a person of no knowledge, and no answer. Evolution doesn't accout for the universe of course, and I'll admit I don't know where that came from. But at least I don't 'pretend' to know what I can't possibly not know. That's what religion does.

  • Religion is a wonderful, carefully constructed lie. I'm sorry to break it to you but you don't live after you die. Accept your mortality, pick up a hammer and build something for the next generation. All animals have evolved this inate fear of death which helps them survive. But humans know they'll die of old age anyway. This is where the fairy tale comes in. Humans lie to themselves and say they'll live forever. You're not the at the center or beginning of the universe. Sorry, but it's true.

  • HAHAHAHA!!!

Creationists are sad and crying because they have been proven wrong again and again and again.

Now they are forced to humiliate themselves by telling ridiculous fairy tales out of a ridiculous fairytale book and everyone is laughing at them.

All they can do now is go "BOO HOO!"

  • right on brother!

  • Beautiful video! favorited and 5 starred. Great job hope to see more off these type of videos from you. Carl Sagan was a genius, not only as a scientist but a philosopher.

  • This just gets better with every viewing.

  • I have mixed feelings about that FX-enhanced booming echoing Carl-voice, but it's growing on me. :-)

    5 stars and favorited.

  • The fx-enhanced sound thing is the Reverb effect. I have a bad habit for putting it in almost every video I make. It just makes it sound a little better.
