I believe the Mark V doesn't have any effects in. What if i want to buy a Mark V but I would like to have some good delay and reverb sounds with it ? Could any of you guys tell me what effect gear is good to go with the mark V ?
@JeuneGen I highly recommend TC Electronics effects processors. Specifically the G-System. The TC Electronics G-System will give you complete control over your rig and any other pedals you may want to integrate without changing the core of your amps sound. It also handles the switching for you of the channels (you may need an amp gizmo to interface with the Mark V to change amp channels, not sure because I own a Dual Rectifier 3-channel model and it does). Hope this helps
@BangLikeABassist Don't think he engages the piezo for the clean electric sound. It's the top switch on his guitar...as far as i know it should be flicked upwatds for the piezo. I think there is a seperate jack as well for the piezo to go into an acoustic amp or whatever?!
My uncle went to see Dream Theater during their Images and Words tour and got an autograph from JP and JM! But he lost the John Petrucci autograph.... T_T
Also consider that he gets his clean sound from the piezo in that guitar, which i can say is just a miracle worker for clean, my friend has john's signature model and it'll make most amps sound like an acoustic is playing
i just came here to brag about me taking an elevator with this guy today, had a talk with john he's real nice, and im going to the show tonight, im stoked.
@UncleJoey12 The master volume thing is a good tip for getting a good tone out of any amp ever. I've never found an amp that sounded great with the MV low--acceptable, sure, even pretty okay, but never great.
I don't know.I am sure the MVKicks Major ass, and not too many amps can have that much body. I noticed with my setup(Mesa QUAD PRE into 295 Simulclass and RECTO 4 x 12)that I do not have to use the amount of gain that JP is using here. I can infinte sustain with the main volume up, and any sound from any of Metallicas albums. Although I play mainly Southern rock now, I use the MK IIc+ channel which with gain down sounds like Dickey Betts Gary Moore type Tone. Mesa Boogie is the Best IMO.
I have a Mark 5 combo and John and Mesa can take their recommended settings and keep them. And John can keep his style of playing as well. I want my own thank you. If more players spent their time playing and pursuing their own sound and style we wouldn't have to listen to so much crap that is out there. PS...this is an incredible sounding amp.
As usual : Mesa Boogie + John Petrucci = relevant video to teach how to shape sound both john's sound but also our own sound. Thank you so much John for such generosity with fans.
How nice of John to how us his settings, other big names like Hetfield (although I do like him) are always so secretive about giving out settings, like its really going to make some of us basement players suddenly become phenoms just because of tone.
I've got myself one of these and thats it no more searching for tone. Mesa Boogie are the best if thats not to a narrow minded thing to say. I've still got a lot of learning to do regarding getting different sounds as there is so much available here. In a few words though.. WHAT AN AMAZING AMPLIFIER!!! Also great to watch J.P demonstrate and discuss.. An awesome guy!!
@SASPython Hahah! The only album I didn't check. Checked ALL Dream Theater albums aswell as both LTE albums :P Ahwell, cheers a lot for the title and the album :D

@PositivelyInsane He's using the humbuckers in split coil mode. The bottom switch is in the middle position(coil split) and the top switch is in the bottom position which means the piezo is inactive and only the magnetics are engaged. If you listen closely to the Hollow Years demo he bumps the magnetic selector switch when he first starts strumming which changes it to the bridge pickup for the second chord before he switches back to split coils for the third strummed chord.

i have always discredited this guitarist because of his solos, and that (imo) sounded too processed.
Buying an amp and looking into the mark fives, i have now realized how articulate john really is.
Very impressed with his approach to sound and his knowledge of what gear does, and consequentially disappointed with my ignorance.
Onto the library now.
shan2onify 5 months ago 7
I have an immaculate Mark IIC "i". Yes "i". No eq with reverb.
I tell you my amp will never ever get the "+" and sounds
absolutely fantastic. Punchy, Articulate, Clean, Searing Leads,
Liquid Sustain, Crisp, Fast, etc. I have tried the "V". I am
not fooled that handwiring is the same as circuit boards.
I also know that once a recipie is perfected, leave it alone.
The new amp sounds dry. The best MB amps and this will go down in history are the Mark IIC,"i"s, or "+" with no eq.
