I'm thinking bout starting freestyle wrestling and can any1 fill me in on a few basics as I am from the UK and not many people r big on wrestling ???? I alredy do ju jitsu, muay Thai and i want 2 start wrestling 2 help my Mma as all the Americans dominate wiv wrestling thx :)
this just shows the gap between top mma wrestlers and international level wrestlers, kos didn't even make it close to winning the nationals to even get into the worlds.
@GBDazzler Kirk White was a 2x Pan American Silver Medalist for team USA (losing close matches to Ivan Fundora of CUBA, an Olympic Bronze Medalist who hammered Ben Askren in the 2008 Olympics. White was also a US Nationals Silver Medalist in 2005 (Losing by 1 point to Joe Williams, who went on to win the Bronze Medal at the World Championships that year), World Team Trials Silver Medalist in 2005, Clansmen International Gold in 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2006, Deglane Int'l Gold Medalist in 2002.
@kirkroywhite What score did he lose to fundora? and goudarzi hammered fundora this year is what i'm saying that koscheck is nowhere near that. Can you name world class wrestlers other than the ones above and the scores, i'm just curious.
@GBDazzler... Maybe I'll post the match. White lost 5-2 in 2003 to Fundora, and 6-4 in 2004 on a screwjob 2 and 2 call that certainly should have tied the match at 4-4 with 15 seconds left. White was in on a HiCrotch crackdown, put Fundora to his back by hooking the elbow and jumping over (Like John Smith always does) and Fundora had to belly out after being put on his back. Crooked refs went 2 and 2 instead of just two for White. Fundora was tired after jumping out to an early lead.
@GBDazzler White tore his ACL in 2005 at the world team trials and has never been healthy since. He just competed in his first tournament in 2010, where he won the silver medal, beating the #4 ranked USA wrestler. White mainly coaches now (at Boise State University), and just competes for personal enjoyment.
@1800Chillayz This was in the quarterfinal bracket of the 2003 US Nationals. White lost to #1 Ranked Joe Williams (3x NCAA Champ, 3rd at the World Championships, 5th at the Olympics) in the semifinals the next match, while Koscheck got beat by Ramico Blackmon (2000 US Nationals Champion) in the consolation bracket. Koscheck did not place in the top 8 at US Nationals.
@kirkroywhite my point exactly askren and cormier are the major wrestlers in mma, its a shame iran doesn't know about mma, because the wrestlers there would jump in if they knew there was money to be made i'm going to train with the national squad next summer should be a good experience.
@Ur1nalCakeUmm this is Freestyle. Koscheck was a much better folkstyle wrestler. 2001 NCAA champion, and runner up to the very talented, very athletic Byron Tucker of OKLAHOMA in 2000 NCAAs. Try looking up those matches at 174 pounds.

@GBDazzler what are you talking about this was the finals and kirk white is a formidable Foe
1800Chillayz 1 year ago
@1800Chillayz then explain why white never went to worlds or the olympics, if this was the final of nationals and the winner would go to worlds.
