Lol, our brittany would always find ways of escaping. She is so smart that she never got fooled by anything just about all other dogs would, like the TV for example. But the one thing that is most memorable about her, is running. She loved running more than anything. When she would go with my dad, he'd go for 10 miles but she would turn it into 20 miles because she did so much exploring and sprinting. It's so sad because now she is 11 years old. Her bottomless pit of energy has been drained :(
I once left the door open when I came home. My Brittany comes and starts playing with me, and I stay between it and the door so it can't escape. It then runs into the bedroom and crawls underneath the bed, wiggling around and making a bunch of racket. I walk in there and look underneath the bed, forgetting about the open door. As soon as I duck down, it comes out the other side and goes straight out the door. I'm pretty sure it tricked me on purpose.
Lol do any of you have Brittany's who run away when they get out but just far enough where you have to chase them to get them back. my Brittany Rusty does it as a game
reminds me of the time my britt jumped from my tool box to the roof of my truck when i got out, i have an f250 she loves ridding in the bed her name is Tess
i love my brittany COLET she is so loyal, smart and very funny its so cute when we play fetch for about 5min then she plays keep away from me and she barks at me when she wants me to chase her i would highly recomend this breed so loyal and gentle and great bird dog
My dog did the same thing. His name is Petey and he was just a bit older than 1. He would jump my fence to chase anything. He recently jumped my fence again and we haven't been able to find him. :(
See, my Britt would just sit there looking at you innocently as in "escape? I can't escape!" Except though he's escaped from every kennel we've ever put him in. Escaped from the vets kennel (was caught heading for the front door). Even broke out of the boarding kennel he was in and broke into their pigeon loft. But while being watched he's as innocent as an angel.
my brittany/cocker spaniel is a mix, but gosh i cant keep him in his kennel. he'll climb, unlach the door, and jump over the fence. smart dogs. jazzi is absolutely adorable!
My friend asked, 'Why would you want your dog to get out of its kennel'
She has a point! Because, then the kennel on the outside is kinda... useless. But, I still think that is AMAZING!!! Great brittany you have there! I am going to get one!! :)
@RedFoxCat123 They are very active indeed. They need constant exercise or a good park or backyard to run around in to dispense their energy. They're very high maitenance dogs and their natural instincts to hunt point and retrieve needs to be met or they'll become restless and bored. They can also be very head strong and stubborn, depending on the dogs personality. I should also mention strong too xD They see a bird, theyr'e going for it, and will take you with them if required xD
i had my brittany for 11 years. she was the sweets dog ever. i don't think i could get anther one, it would be to hard it just not katie. but if your looking of a good famly dog then look no father the a brittany spaniel
@MGMan37 This is really funny to me because I had to do the same exact thing. Our cute Brittany figured out not only how to open our main food cubbord, but also how to rip open a box of cereal as well as the plastic bag, & eat the cereal alone. Our Britt would sit at a distance watching us eat dinner and remember how we act when a phone/doorbell rings and remember EXACTLY where we hid our dinner and due to its jumping/coordnation ability, the little tyke would steal anything. Its way too smart!!
Brittany Spaniels LOVE the outdoors. Mine stays outside for hours and whines when I bring her back in. She comes inside at about 5 pm and stays with me and sleeps in my bed. Don't admonish people who let their dogs stay outside. Indoor AND outdoor dogs get loose. You can't keep a dog locked inside ALL the time. 10 minutes is all it takes for them to find a way out.
Britts need the outdoors, you cannot keep them in the house all the time! They are so smart and full of energy, wonderful dogs. Great video! My 16 1/2 yo Britt can still get over a baby gate, and nothing is an obstacle to my year old female! I think they're part monkey to be honest...
My britts have a great house to live in as do most; unfortunately britts love to follow their noses chasing squirrels, bunnies, etc)- one my guy get on scent he is pretty driven - its a hunting dog thing.
But her passion for the thing she loves most hasn't

We had to replace our doorknobs - they were lever handles, not knobs. Anyway, while we went shopping, they'd always hop up and open the door.
They're too smart for their own good. :P
