It's very strange how the opening phrase is played with 8 notes on the D string, and the first four of them with only the 1st and 2nd fingers...but if you want the right feel and sound that is the only way to get it. This is how both Stephane and Adrian finger it. Even though there are much more logical ways to finger the right notes, you don't get the right sound.

@ChetArrista I think using the two fingers is in tribute to Django Reinhardt and his style of play.

@N0rmad I had thought of that but I actually believe that is has to do with getting your 3rd finger in place for the hamer on/puul off notes on the D string [5-7-4]. If you hit the 7th fret A with your pinky you can't get the same dynamics and articulation. Pluse all the other good players are playing it this way too and I don't think everyone cares enough to emulate Django...they just want it to sound good.
