  • Thumbs up if you think that train is very fast!!

  • That train was going very fast. If they replaced the wig-wags with gates and lights, did they put up a sign saying, "High Speed Trains"?

  • Shows the power of one Locomotive !! is said if a pickup or car had the same drive system ,,instead of 300 miles on a tank of gas would be in the 2,500 mile range on the same tank of gas

  • Nice video. Are there any other places in Wisconsin that still have wig wags? Appleton once had a ton.

  • @ma7799 There are two sets in Sheboygan, three signals in Plymouth, one in Avoca, and one east of Marshall. There are also sets of them at Dane, Baraboo, and Devils Lake. The ones at Dane and Devils Lake are going to be replaced in the very near future, if they haven't been already. I'm not sure about the ones in Baraboo. I've seen a picture of a crossing in Appleton that once had a total of six wig-wags. The Chicago & Northwestern used them quite a bit on their lines.

  • my three year brother thank you thank by train. he loves em

  • I didnt know RR still used Wig Wag signals

  • @starguard They haven't been legal for new installations for quite a few years now. There are still some out there though, having not been removed in favor of newer signals. The wig-wags in this video have since been taken out and replaced by a set of standard lights and gates.

  • Wig-Wags are cool crossings!

  • Comment removed

  • RoadRailers and wig-wags. Nice combination!!!

  • never seen a consist like that one.

  • яицо качаеться

  • what are those trailers on?

  • that horn is awesome!

  • i love that horn!

  • Nice video!

  • the city of Waukesha, Wisconsin use to have wigwags many years ago. they all got taken away back in 1999 and 2000. i miss seeing them here.

  • wigwag are cool

  • Oh, dit is wat se mei it "Dokkumer Lokaeltsje" dien hawwe :)

  • That UP is really haulin!

  • Those are pretty unique. It's kinda sad that they are gone now and their only memory is that of those who have seen them in person and the few scattered vids on the internet. Good Vid. Keep up the good work!

  • Thats an interesting train. I forgot about those trains.

  • Interesting. Don't see too many wig-wag type signals any more. At least here in California.

  • What a perfect looking set of wig wags. Too bad they're gone.

  • Thank you for the info Brenton81. LEDs have been used on model railroad signals for a few decades & now they are used on prototype signals! The BNSF is replacing searchlight block signals on the former Northern Pacific main line with 3 light block signals with the " Darth Vader " hoods in central Minnesota.

  • Do the 3 light block signals go back as far as the wig-wags? Or are they something newer like the RoadRailer train?

  • @Petemonster62 I'm really not sure. I seem to recall reading that these wig-wags were installed in 1950, so there is a very good possibility they were put in around that time as well. They were removed a few years back when the wig-wags were taken out and replaced with flashing lights and gates. There is now a single mast, double head, three-light signal with "darth vader" hoods there.

  • Do those 3 light block signals go back as far as the wig-wags, or are they something newer like the RoadRailer train?

  • It looks like the truck trailers are running right on the tracks!

  • That train's super fast!

  • now that is horsepower.

  • Why put the wigs to waste?! Those are classics. Why to people have to fix what isn't broke?

  • @lordbemylight Agreed 100 percent.

  • Lol.. Friesland is a dutch province :P

    greetings from holland.

  • Lol.. Friesland is a dutch province :P

    greetings from holland.

  • Horn makes a eerie sound.Train not wasting any time

  • I remember these when I lived in Randolph. I watched a couple trains there. I sucked when the changed them. Great vid.

  • The Z-CHEM.

    Chicago to East Minneapolis.

Auto parts for the Ford plant in the twin cities.

    That baby MOOOOVES!!!!!!!!

  • That train horn sounds kinda creepy, in a cool way. =)

  • I didn't know they had SD70M's in 2004!!

  • That train was hauling ass

  • Nice video! Really good horn, too!! Does this crossing still have those wig wags? If not, what is there now? 5/5

  • No. These signals were removed not too long after this video was taken. There's just a standard lights and gates set up now.

  • never knew union pacific pulled triple crown, or is that a ns line?

  • This is Union Pacific's Adams Subdivision. It's not uncommon to see NS power on this train though. Check out the video response I added. It was taken earlier this year, further south on UP's Milwaukee Subdivision.

  • That's one loooong train

  • I dont like the crossing wig wag

  • awsome horn!

  • holy crap he's flying

  • what kind of horn was that?

  • A very tired K3 [H or L] A

  • K3HA. One bell missing..sounds like the 1 bell lost its diaphrams from pushing so much high psi to the horn, sounds just like the 2 and the 4A pushing there notes.

  • There's a working wig-wag on permanent display at the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento. At least we know they won't ALL be replaced!

  • Very few, if any wig-wags are scrapped these days when they're removed from offical service. They're in high demand from collectors and museums. It's good to know they'll be preserved in some way. Thanks for the comment!

  • I'd walk a mile for a wig-wag.

  • Was that a WRS Mechanicle bell on top of the wig wag?

  • Yeah.

  • Nice Shot!

  • Thanks. This is one of the first (if not THE first) videos I ever shot.

  • Wow Brent, you were pretty good even back then. I'm impressed.

  • Thanks. This is one of the first videos I ever shot. I had my old VHS-C camera.

  • I thought only Norfolk Southern ran TripleCrown trains.

  • The UP runs Triple Crown trains between NS connection at Chicago and ex-CNW yard at East Minneapolis, MN.

  • thanks.

  • They gotta go somewhere, right???

  • They also operate on the BNSF as well between Saginaw, TX and Kansas City, MO.

  • The island which is right off of my island is a beach called Fireisland.

  • nice whistle

  • Cool crossing. Never seen em like that before.

By the way: I live in the province of Friesland, Netherlands :)

  • Thanks. There aren't very many wig-wags left in service. These have been removed and replaced with standard lights and gates.

  • Well at least that beats closing the crossing or just putting crossbucks with no signals there!

  • Nice catch, wig-wags are awesome.

  • Sweet! Thanx fur sharin'!

  • RoadRailers FTW. And cool signals!

  • those trailers are so cool

  • Wow talking about hauling ass! Is triple crown still in sevice.I drive truck for a living and have not seen one of those trailers in a while.

  • yep they're still kicking

  • Love the old 'sconsin wig-wags. CLASSIC C&NW!

  • One request: Please let the wigwag come to rest before the fade-to-black effect. That part is as cool as the rest. :) Great videos... Thanks for posting!

  • The horn on that unit sounds weird. Its sound like an orchestra playing war or battle music.

  • is that a NS lease b/c i thought NS had the triple crown contract?

  • Cool video. What type of camera did you use?

  • Weird.

  • i bet its because all the idiots who go across the tracks when the lights are flashing. what kind of piggy back cars is that?

  • The cars are called RoadRailers. Its Norfolk Southern's Triple Crown service. They are truck trailers that have the trucks attatched to glide across the rails. They get unloaded/loaded at intermodal facilities and then go where they need to.

  • may those wigwags rest in peace! They have done their job. Nice video!

  • These signals look very special to me.

  • That's a strong wrrs bell there. Keep up the good vids!

  • No kidding!

  • whats wrong with the whistle/horn on this UP unit ?

  • I didn't know UP did Roadrailers too. Did they get those from a Norfolk Southern yard exchange or something?

  • Yes, they are run through from NS from Ft Wayne IN and other points on their system. These trailers carry auto parts to and from the Ford plant at Minneapolis. This business started 2, maybe 3 years ago

  • Call me crazy but that looks like a SD70 to me...

  • I like wig-wag railroad crossings a lot.

  • I believe this bell to be a wrrs mechanical type 1?

  • ur right SD60M

  • its either a AC4400 or a ES44....doesent matter both made by GE the ES = Evolution series thats the newest ones

  • sorry ES44DC....DUH

  • Looks more like an EMD to me...SD70, 80, 90 type. Doesn't have the "wings" of a GE.

  • That wigwag looks like it's swinging a little farther than others that I have seen.

  • That train looked really cool.. It looked like the Freight Trailers were flying through the air. Hehe

  • Nice...Is that the ZCHEM or the ZEMCH train??

  • I'm not really sure. I've always heard it called the "Z Train" before.

  • Too bad those wig wags are gone. As far as I know, there is only one operational wig wag in Minnesota, where I live. It is at the Lake Superior Railroad Musems, and it operates when the museum's trolley operates in the summer months.

  • AS I watched the video I noticed that it was an AC4400 pulling that bad boy! I just moved to Amsterdam,NY and believe it or not I have seen several through frieght trains with UP engines pulling them.

  • good beer comes from friesland spec. ostfriesland

    JEVER PILS

  • Wow, I've never seen any railroad crossings before that have wigwag signals. Where are some railroad crossings in Wisconsin that still have this type of warning device, instead of the typical bells and gate warning signals?

  • i have never seen a train like that before

  • There are some in Dane Wisconsin, and Devils Lake Wisconsin on the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad (WSOR) Reedsburg Sub. There is also one in Lima Center WI on the WSOR.

  • Awesome! This is cool because a typical train in Wabash, IN looks like this. I go to Wabash a lot, and almost all of their freight trains are Norfolk Southern locomotives with a long consist of TripleCrown roadrailers! It's cool to see one like this somewhere other than Wabash! But they don't have wig wags there. Awesome! 5 stars

  • Man, back when I was a little boy (11 r 12 years ago) I remember CNW SD40s passing this crossing. Now you get UP SD70s and roadrailers moving faster than I ever remember seeing them go throuigh Friesland!!!

  • i dont see why do they ever replace this wigwags with new signals.. i think its cool with the wigwags

  • Old meets new!

  • Great video. Those look like Peachbasket Wigwags! I like wigwags but I like the traditional crossing signals better.

  • how dare you encourage the wigwags to be replaced!

  • I wasn't encouraging change of signals, I was just saying I like our modern signals better. If this makes you feel better, I prefer cantilever wigwags over the two other wigwag types.

  • oh, okay. Yeah. Traditional crossing gates are cool too, but i like wig wags alot better. I even scratch built a wigwag for my model railroad.

  • IF you don't mind, I'd like to see it if it works.

  • i agree with u i would like to see many wigwags here in ohio

  • Are the other two the ones hanging up in the air, and the ones in the video What is a wigwag?

  • I was so absorbed with the wigwags that it took me another viewing to notice that the train is a Roadrailer! Sweeeeet!

  • great wigwag video. It is sad to me that they replaced that one there.

  • Another great wigwag video! These classics have been disappearing fast over the last couple of years. I was surprised the ones in Madison were still there when I went to photograph them last month, given that the entire street has been reconstructed as a bike path.
