  • If you want it to bent back tapper the other end and attach in the midle

  • Im wondering whether or not this would work for something for example a husky tail? As the same skeleton and whatnot but shorter

  • @Doctor5pencer you wont need to use this technique at all. just cut the fur to the shape you want and stuff it with hobby fill pretty tightly.

  • Quick question what did you use to hold the pieces together?

  • @meggiemingming Hot glue and plastic mesh (for cross stitching). I don't recommend it though. Instead I would recommend using a thin nylon rope and stringing it through the foam noodle pieces.

  • 1. would it be possible to cut the noodle like you did but to string a rope through the holes to keep it together? 2. thank you for this video! I've been peicing together different "how to" vids and am almost ready to start my first fursuit!

  • @ginnonifu Yes, in fact, I recommend doing that instead of how I did it with the plastic mesh.

  • I'm going to do this x3 . What a great idea!

  • damn, way better then my tail made completely out of yarn

  • would this all so work for a very long fox tail that drags on the ground? like fennec? and how can you make it look fuller?

  • what would be the easiest, cheapest and less required thing to make for a fur suit, just wondering for if I ever decide to have a try in the future

  • @Texshy I don't exactly understand your question. Nothing about fursuit construction is easy or cheap. It takes a lot of patience, practice, and (unfortunately) money.

I'd say learning how to sew tails is probably the best way to start. They range from simple to complex in design and require the least amount of fur. Tails are good for getting yourself introduced to the medium and construction techniques.

  • @blackcat2086 ok thanls, just one more thing, what material would I use if I was to make a suit as a dragon?

  • @Texshy Whatever your little heart desires!

I've seen people use anything from fur to fleece to reptile-patterned faux stuff. Fur is probably the easiest to start off with. Buy GOOD fur, not that scraggly cheap stuff. Honestly, it's not even worth practicing with. Get a yard of nice short-pile fur. If you want that ribbed look often seen on dragon tummies, use "pelted mink" fur. Don't worry, it's fake fur. Pelted mink is just the style name. It's soft short pile fur with grooves shaved into it.

  • @blackcat2086 thanks once again, i'll try to remember that in the future, when ever I decide it's time

  • Butter knife cuts through like its butter.

  • @angel1967cougar

LOL, I meant to say, "The bread knife cuts through it like butter." XD

  • @angel1967cougar oh good you made me laugh so hard.

  • @Gungeophrenia In this video, I hot glued the "vertebrae" to plastic mesh strips, leaving an inch gap between each vertebrae. However, that method did not last long and had some issues. Try, instead, linking them with a nylon rope down the center hole in the vertebrae. Make sure the nylon rope is thinner than the hole, so they can move relatively freely like a snake. If you need to, add a small weight to the end of the rope to give it some "swish".

  • yiff in hell

  • @Penaloza805 Thank you for your suggestion. It has been dutifully noted.

  • i was wondering if you would be willing to make me a fursuit snowleopard head out of foam and stuff...and if you are, how much would it cost?

  • hey i have the same shoes!

  • not a bad idea.

  • maybe it would have worked better with a more elastic material to keep them together and on both sides maybe on the sides too.

i dont know im just started to build mine. =3

  • wow, thanks i got some inspiration there :D thanks.. i'm going to make a tail by your idea but it'll be a little different ...^.^

  • Okay! I have a tail similar enough to this and the base is a 28' wooden snake, I need to know hoe to layer the fur over it so that it still swings right and so that you can't see where I cut the fur. Can you help me? o.o

  • man, suits must be alot of money i know that the xenomorph alien from avp has a 2000 dollar motor in the head

  • You run a rope down the middle?

    Or what did you do?

  • then how do you put the fur on it?

  • the butter knife part was a lol, that would be one epic butter knife.

  • wow u answered me.thats a first.nobody answers me.and how do i do that?

  • ur voice ant annoying. it ant high pitched.whats ur email.when im done i want to show u my fursuit when its done.

  • Just post a link to the pics on my youtube channel if you want. :)

  • that's a butter knife!!!

  • LOL, I meant to say bread knife.

  • ok good, cause that would be one BIG butter knife

  • I lol'd at the butter knife^^

  • Did it work well?

  • Not so much the swishy-ness that I was going for, but I know what I did wrong. I'll post another tutorial using this same method another time, as well as a video of this tail finished.

If/when I redo this tail again, I'd insert a nylon rope into the center hole (pool noodles are hollow) instead of just using plastic mesh on the outside.

  • ? do you got directions for a fox tail?

  • Ahh! a pool noodle! why didnt i think of that before ;)

    nice job

  • a way to improve on this idea is:

there should be a whole in the middle of those tubes right, well if you run a light yello rope through that hole. and tie it to number 18. so it will be as flexable as a peice of string

  • Perfect! It'd be much lighter, softer, and quieter than and chain-spine tail. =3

  • your using a chain.... that must be heavy. ... off topic you have a deviant art ?

  • No, no chains in this one. The typical "swishy tail" design is called a "chain spine", where you take pvc piping and cut it similar to how I did this tail, then slide a padded chain down the center of the pipe pieces and fur over it. The weight of the chain makes it more swishy, but the tail will also be hard, heavy, and noisy if you don't pad it right.

Yup, I have dA and FA accounts. Same screen name as this one.

  • ur voice really isn't that annoying as you think it may be. good idea though.

  • You never cease to amaze!

  • -very- long tail XD Those tubes are pretty big- resourceful idea though, may try it sometime soon myself :3

  • Your Voice Wasn't Annoying...

  • Why thank you. =3
