Those early Columbias were mostly of poor sound quality. But there are many interesting early attempts on syncopated music that make them worth listening to. Like this one. Thanks a lot for this document!

@1920sbuff I had no idea they had such recording habits in those times! But indeed, now when I think a little I can recall a few such recordings "two in one" I have in my collection!
@genia106 I MUST see t! Poor Allen, it's been almost 1,5 decade now, since he's gone. We were really good friends, I was his translator into Polish (Howl, Kaddish and plenty of other shorter poems). In 1980/90s he was twice in Poland (Warsaw, Łódź, Bydgoszcz) to make readings (and "singings" - he was also a good singer; they made a perfect trio: Allen, Dylan and Cohen). I also had meals & talks with him almost each day when I stayed in ST Mark's Place 10 min away from where he lived in NYC.
@abendstunde49 Go to the link I enclosed and see the difference between "early" and "late" Hickman. They sound like two completely different orchestras. He made enormous progress and no wonder he was one of top 3-4 dance bands in USA in 1920/30s.
The only decade in history to be longed for some 80+ years later. I think most of us would go back if given the chance.

How I wish there was high quality recordings of more stuff from 1910-1930..... but we can appreciate what there is :)

An earful of beautiful sounds and charming early 20th century fashion.

Typical for the era, offering two songs "for the price of one", in a well-arranged mini medley. Very enjoyable!

Great movie.
There is a movie called "Howl" at the Angelicka in the Village about your friend
Ginsberg. I will scan the short review and send it to you.
James Franco plays Ginsberg.
