  • please shut Jeff up...

Bela and the fleck tones were great!

  • Amazing! He has Hungarian accent! How? From his parents?

  • See, don't get all depressed if you play and instrument and feel like you started too late. Bela didn't start playing until age 15 and he morphed into a banjo icon. Its what you put into it every day, so you don't have to be a child prodigy. The more you love playing and the more you practice the better you'll become.

  • In modern terms,

Victor Wooten is the best bassist I know

Bela Fleck is the best banjoist I know

Jeff Coffin is the best sax player i know

And I listen to a lot of jazz

  • Bela is awesome!

  • can someonetell the name of the song, which is played during the video?

  • lol "I don't want to brag about my band like that, but my bassist is the best ever. And I am the greatest banjo player ever. Our drummer is a time traveler who knows when you'll die."

  • I collected Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, the Yellowjackets, Tony Rice, Grisman, and the Dead in the 70's, and I'm still groovin on them all ... fantastic stuff, and perhaps none

better today....as said, the coolest stuff! And I even sang barbershop for 26 years, and now I appreciate the entertaining talents of Dailey&Vincent.

  • what is the name of song ?

  • Wooton Bros! Once in a lifetime!

Who else plays the drums AND guitar at the same time!

  • Wooton Bros! Once in a lifetime!

  • @tomaspepino Real musician =Béla Fleck

  • kinda strange how the lowest string is the highest tone

  • I think it's safe to say the Flecktones are the most talented 4 piece band in the world.

  • As a long time lover of jazz music, I have been listening and collecting Bela's music and CDs for many years. In the last few months, out of curiosity, I started listening to bluegrass music and now I'm in love with bluegrass. I know strange combination, jazz and bluegrass, but am now addicted to both forms of music, and I credit all that to Bela's influence.

  • @SunSue2 You're not alone in your "strangeness" -- these are also MY two favorite musical forms: jazz and bluegrass! They're both all-out improvisation, which is my thing. Almost anything goes, and I think it speaks to the similarities of jazz and 'grass that Bela Fleck (and many others - Tony Rice, Dave Grisman) so easily go back and forth, one form then the other.

  • and is curious, because bluegrass is influenced by blues and irish music .

  • By far the best band in the world....

  • What is this song called?

  • @RAevenman This song is Amber Jack. Bela recorded it with jazz pianist McCoy Tyner a few years ago, and the Flecktones have been playing it recently at live shows. It's one of my faves.

  • bela is so brilliant, and i admire him for this :)

whats the song in the background called which him and the flecktones are playing?

  • For some strange reason it this just sounds a little bit different from when I play the banjo.. Oh wait, could it be that this guy is just absolutely BRILLIANT!!! - All of them by the way!!!!:)

  • Long time passed since I heard him talk. Well, I have his CD of classical components. The photo was stylish, too. I like Alhanbra, Spanish court dipiction of musica/

  • @FIELDY31511 i'm glad you took your time to rip another man's talent here.

  • @FIELDY31511 You should take that all back, shame on you

  • @hyndmanstrider79 @nfnkalyan : ok, if it makes you feel better, i took the comment off. but you should know, that constructive criticism is different from ripping on somebody. what i see here is a lot of positive comments left by bela fanboys. flattery does nothing to enhance the creative process. however, there is a valuable place for astute observation and honest insight, be it positive or negative. i don't think any artist wants to be surrounded by people saying "dude, you rock my world!!"

  • @FIELDY31511 Point taken my friend..

  • OMFG!!!

  • i feel like i would have to be on speed or something to enjoy this at a concert haha

  • Does Anybody know the songs that are played in this video? Or is it just improv? I bought Live at Quick. And I Want this concert!

  • Damn. I wish I was as dedicated to something as Bela Fleck DX

  • Bela Fleck-the John Tesh of bluegrass

  • I am so glad I stumbled upon you guys!!!

  • what song are they playing?

  • awesome !!!!!!!!!!1 So complete just cant believe they so unknown!

  • this guy is the john tesh of bluegrass.

  • @devno9904 haha awesome

  • i love when he's describing his bands talente, he tries so hard to say how good everyone is without trying to sound arrogant, and i must say he did a fine job at that

  • well if you like him,you do,but i cant stand a banjo played that way,it a disgrace to a banjo.i am bluegrass al the way baby,i have played scruggs style for 29 years and thats the ay i will stay,of course i put some modern licks in there but i will never do this crap.of course this is just my opinion and the way i feel.

  • Even if you don't like his style, you have to admit he's relly good!

  • why should an instrument be confined to one style. If you listen to some of his classical stuff that he does, the banjo sounds almost more natural as a classical instrument than a bluegrass one. Why would you want to confine something with the versatility of the banjo to one style?

  • @kase902 anyone can play it the way they want to,I do,I just dont have to like it,do I??

  • @honeyman1964

you are stupid for displaying your attitude. just face it you aren't able to play even the basics as he plays it.

  • @lincolnls0 I aint the best but yes I can play as I have been told,I am not bragging at all,so you have heard me? now that was a stupid thing to say.He is good at what he does,I just hate it is all,I have that right just as you do to like it.Get it??

  • @honeyman1964 Im not gonna get ticked at you for voicing your opinion, cuz thats yours. And I have mine so, everyone should just calm down a little bit.

  • @honeyman1964

CRAP!!!, how dare you call this crap you no talented excuse for a door stop. This music is inovative and way over the top. If music remains the same it becomes stagnic, and who made you god to decide if this is disgraceful for a banjo. Scruggs had to hear the same sh#t you're spouting and all he done was bring the banjo up a level, and now you're running your yap at someone esle who's doing the same things. ingrate

  • @shammond10 Calm down stupid! You have your opinion to this music dont you? why cant I? I do and I said it,and I get jumped on for it,you say you like it and I say I dont,we both have rights,so lay off my right to free speech!!!!!! I have some modern stuff in my music, but not this,K?? what I play would be modern to what it was in the older days,Wayne Benson of IIIrd Tyme Out blows Bill Monroe out of the water in my book,we all have different likes,so leave me alone! its Crap to me!

  • well closed minded musician never be good musicians. ;)

  • @tomaspepino closed minded has nothing to do with it,I a m open to what I want to be open about,I have a brain you know.

  • Real musician =imagination, inovation, originality.

Fake musician = close mind, unoriginal, jelaous of the life of others.

  • @tomaspepino Real musician =Béla Fleck

  • i agree

  • @tomaspepino orignal? whats orignal about this? I am inovated in my way,and I have imagination, close mind? come on,I am not jelous of anyone, especially him.

  • "why are u watching videos of music u dont like?" , because u are only a troll, and a real musician dont enter on videos who dont like to made troll coments .

Haters hate because are jealous of others, and are frustrated musicians.

    U SUCK .

  • @tomaspepino I found this video while searching for other bluegrass videos, and I clicked on it for the heck of it,so?And may I say again,I AM NOT JEALOUS! especially of him,or anyone for that matter,I am playing like I want to play, and I like it,and so do others.I dont like his music just because I dont like it,and you do,and thats fine, its your right,so let me feel the way I feel without saying the stupid crap you are to me,now BACK OFF!!!!!!!!!!!

  • closed minded dont understand the originality, and u r not open minded, only for watch videos who dont like for hate hims is clear to see u r worst banjo player ever.

  • @tomaspepino So,I am the worst banjo player ever huh,ok,you know you sound like a big baby. And you need to look at what you wrote, look at your words, its goofed up,man, you must have been really upset. And dont be such a little baby. And I will be as open minded as I want to be,hows that? Its my business,NOT YOURS!

  • Lol, loser musician.

and yes, you are the worst banjo player, welcome to reality ;).

  • This song appears in the album "Guitars" by Mccoy Tyner.

  • sweet! bela fleck kicks ass!

  • Its called Amberjack

  • whats the name of the song there playin

  • Brillante !

  • wonderful group of musicians...great creativity

  • Great vid, perfect blend of music and interview.

  • what hateful people. jesus christ.

  • I love Bela Fleck's music. He's such a great writer, which, is the main thing, of course.

  • Then if you so much hate his music and style.... why did you search Bela Fleck and watched this 5 minute interview? I guess you must be a musician wanna be that nobody likes so you go around the internet posting hateful comment... you know what, go Fuck yourself and go back to you little sad life that nobody cares about.

  • lol...come on guy get some sense about you. this is the guy who has been nominated for 20 plus grammy awards...i think he is more than a "nobody". get it together son. he's got more soul in his stinky turds than you have in your whole body!

  • So let's see some of your "playing".

  • BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOU DUD

  • People? Who people?

  • @populariwt I go to his concerts every time he's in my city, the stages are always packed...

  • When I'm done, Go crawl back into your ignorant dark cave. 8 Grammy's won, 20 nominations for Bela, 4 Grammy's for the Wooten brothers with Bela. Vic won Bass player of the year 3 years in a row, And the first to win more than one time.

Bela has been nominated in more catagories than anyone in Grammy history.

But what Am I saying... You probably don't know what a Grammy is..

  • then why did you take time out of your "busy" day to watch this and comment on it? by the way....he is crazy, somewhat delusional, yet he is the best musician you will ever see! go listen to some Tool or something

  • I wonder, what makes Bela crazy? Crazy because he taking the instrument he loves and putting on the front line in everything from Jazz to classical? Crazy because hes proud of his band mates? Well then if thats the case, I wanna be crazy too :). LOLOLOL

Seriously though, the only crazy thing I see is that Victor Wooten is getting more attention than Bela on youtube. Must be alot of bass players on here!

  • @HillbillyJ I definitely agree with you. Not saying Vic isn't legendary in his own right... but Bela may quite possibly be the best musician alive(or dead) on ANY instrument...

  • Well, he said that they could kick his ass... so he was kind of talking himself down there. besides, he pretty much is better than everyone else, there's only a couple that could even be considered approaching his level, tony trishcka, scott vestal, etc. I think he's being very gracious. I don't see how they could be any more creative, they have the most diverse and interesting output of any band I've seen. I would say he's pretty realistic and grounded, he's been nominated for 20 grammys....

  • Jens Kruger is closest to Bela imo.

  • jens is badass.

  • Then why type in Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on your search box if you hate him anyway faggot?

  • Finally a Bela Fleck interview on YouTube!!!!

  • This is a great interview. Thanks for adding this!!!!

  • Thanks for watching!

  • Im naming my first kid Bela either a boy or girl
