If theres wasnt a food shortage and military that would kill you if you didnt honor the leaders i could possibly live there. I think Pyongyang actually has a nice archetectual design and a nice layout for a big city!
So a young guy who cant adapt to the military, is in trouble with the army, has a failed marriage and a shitty childhood chose to go somewhere where he was made a movie star,,, that makes North Korea a great place to go? Good thing he did stay there, If he came back he'd be tried and hanged for treason,,, rightfully so,,
I disagreed with Bush, but I helped invade Iraq anyway while Osama got away. I signed on that line and stood by my word and my honor. This poor guy is stuck in North Korea FOR LIFE. He drinks like a whale and smokes like a chimney because he knows death is his only escape. I'm no super patriot anymore, but I'd at least finish my tour and take advantage of the GI Bill. Wait, I did!
@superstud666 Wow, you really believe that about Norway? You are incomprehensibly stupid. I'm not even FROM Norway, nor am I some kind of expert on it, but seriously, you are dumb as a sack of bricks.
That man was told what to say, and what to do after The Reluctant Communist by Jenkins was published. The scene with him fishing was about him being percieved as fishing on a constant basis with friends. I am sure he never met those men at all. He is pissed that he is the only American left there that cant write a book and travel. He deserves the fate he asked for.
Outspoken people manifest themselves over here. Let it be known they have a right to do so. Nevertheless they have been dealing with ideas coming to their minds already from an early age about what's wrong and what's right. No one ever taught them to form an opion on their own.
However, it was possible because he was an American. He could meet NK's needs by promoting the superiority of the communism ideology. By doing so, he was well treated. But most North Koreans have no way to live like him. They are dying of hunger and suffering from lack of freedom.
It was NK government's generousity what touched him, when he had to come back after his attempted betrayal was failed. It was the assurance of well-settled life what turned him on. Just as we normal people hope to be happy in our lives, he wanted to be as well. For him, it could be satisfied in NK. Good social position, better jobs, protected family happiness and even the bright future of his children with high education that he couldn't afford to have for himself.
I've just watched this movie here on youtube. Dresnok had such a miserable childhood in his life. Not well educated either as himself admitted in the movie. I was personally quite surprised to see how gracious NK was to him. What moved him to become a North Korean from his heart was not the concept of communism nor the hatrad toward his original country, the US, where he had only unfortunate momories.
@anneeq008 Yeah it is but you can't visit it like any normal vacation you have to have a goverment official with you at all times telling you where you can go, and what to do, plus you have to give up your cell phone upon entering the country
Dresnok is a f---ing loser and a traitor. North Korea treats him well only because he's useful to them. He's a useful idiot. Screw him. I'm actually glad the NKs have him so that he's not wasting space in the good old US of A anymore.
theoretically speaking, North Korea could be the best country ever and everything we see and hear about it could be twisted lies meant to make us think it is rubbish. I personally think this is unlikely however.
@Pander8874 Comrade evrything is a question of perception.... ask millions of americans living from food stamps, living on the streets, same thing for other millions disenfranchised in western world.... I am damn sure to about 90% their lives in DPRK would be pretty better.... People have a thought in western world of those millions homeless, jobless.... tne number is growing since 2008.....

I hope he dies a long and painful death. The traitor deserves to die a court martial isn't as bad as living in a permeant prison (north Korea)

The film should not refer to Dresnok's rank. He lost that the moment he defected.

you think you are the good guys becouse you protect us from USSR?, and what does military protection have to to with high living standards?.
infact taliban does not waterboard their prisoners when captured. unlike the uncivilized US.

randompal 2 years ago
Nah, Taliban just kidnap GIs and videotape them as their heads get cut off. Yeah, civilized, right?
