I hope that the orphanages in Russia improve soon. I find it very depressing that so many kids are adopted so late in age. Most people want to start fresh, with a newborn baby and overlook the older children who haven't even had a real family and their chances of being adopted are dwindling fast.

She has definitely taken it way too far in disciplining her child, however I'm sure that this isn't daily (unless I missed out on a detail). I give this woman props for going up on the stage and receiving face-to-face commentary, as well as accepting a method of change within the household. Yes, there are still many qualities about her that aren't the best, but she at least tried (without resistance, from what I understand.) Idk, but yes, I greatly dislike her choice of disciplining methods.

Be realistic back in the day the normal disciplinary actions would be considered severe child abuse today. Somalian kids do great as in the African orphanages they are held and loved. Russian-not so great. Recently, in Fargo, an adopted from a young age Russian boy became 17. He killed and then raped his adopted 16-year-old sister who had just gotten her first job. No one bailed him out. Kids from Russian orphanages often suffer from disattachment disorders.

I have great respect for this mother, She unlike most realized that maybe she wasn't doing the right thing, and asked for help from professionals who might have an answer! She went to great lengths to reach this understanding between herself and her child. It also show how much she loves her child to risk public scrutiny and being charged with Child abuse so that she could love her child the best way she can! She WANTS to change!

Their guilt is sometimes enough to make them change for the better. You need to watch movie Les Miserables (circa1979). Jean Valjean murdered out of survival, but he became a good man years later.

Did you know that the school can beat your kid with a wooden paddle in some states, and that spanking is still legal in the united states? This is nowhere near as "violent" or "abusive".
