The PS1 is laggy and long load times. Thus it lessons the experience.

Took Nintendo and Square-Enix long enough to bring Chrono Trigger to the Virtual Console. I've got the DS version and the rom on my zsnes emu. Had the SNES version a few years ago.

Sorry but the PSX is the worst port of this game. If you have a Wii I would wait for that on the VC. Or better yet you have a DS get it for that. The DS version is the best possibly Chrono Trigger release. It ads a lot to the original Snes classic and even the music is fine tuned to sound better, plus has additional content too. PSN will be just as buggy, choppy cut scenes and long loading screens even for the menus, as if with the original collection port for the psone.

They sold this and final fantasy 2 on the same disk years ago. I bought it when I had my PS2, but then I bought a PS3, and the game was all glitchy. I regret lending my DS copy of CT to a boy I know. He lost it while they were packing for their big move. I have the SNES version on my laptop and I bought the PSX version when it was first released, so I am not (totally) without. One of these days I will buy a new DS cart. I really like this game, it is so complete, all the timelines and all the characters. I remember a friend that told me about the "colored rocks" in the game, at first I was pretty skeptical then I spent the next 12 hours looking for the damn stones!!

And god, when we got to the end, and I saw the PSX/DS ending, I started crying. It's so beautiful. In Sweden it's not really taken for granted that couples get married, even if they stay together for life. So when the topic comes up, I'm often asked why I feel so strongly about wanting to get married. Every time the question comes up, this ending video comes up in my head. This brings back so many memories, and the entire jrpg industry really should listen to your review. It basically tells them exactly what to look for and what to work on to make a truly great game. Less 50 minute FMVs with 500 million polygons; emotion and art design is more important than technologically impressive graphics stunts.

I love Chrono Trigger for it's well everything and just to prove that it seems i like some things lots of people don't. Marle. I just really liked her as a character even if she's a bit crazy. I just find her story more compelling. I find it really sad that she was disowned sorta by her dad. Because it reminds me about how my sister left the house for college. Back when it first came out on the PS1 the load times & sound effects where so bad, The only excuse I even had to so much as even think about touching it over the vastly superior SNES version was for the Anime sequence's...

So I just ripped those to my PC & played the SNES version instead... :P

Now we have the excellent DS port though...

@mosfetrob Sadly Terranigma was never released in America which is why alot of people have not heard of it. But its actually part of a three game series from what i've heard...Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and then Terranigma. I heard Terranigma is great but really short...Chrono Trigger is amazing!

Chrono Trigger is one of those games I just CANNOT get my hands on. It was NEVER released in the PAL regions before the DS version, and I sold my DS long before that version was even announced. And because of the DS version (and other reasons) Chrono Trigger will most likely never be released on the VC either. Same goes for Chrono Cross. Both belong on that list of games I'll probably never get to play. I really enjoyed the epic review though!

@Svetsarkirurgen Thanks for the link Svetsar, but I try not to use emulators. It's just one of my stupid principles. On one hand I'm very poor and I can barely afford the games I buy, but I'm also too much of a bigot to use an emulator. For now I try to stay away from them, but there will probably be a day where I'll just have to give in to it though. I'm currently looking into buying a RetroDuo. It seems to be a reliable solution for a cheap gamer, and it's region free as far as I understand.
