  • I'd say U2 were sxxtin' it!

  • Great Track! And Quiet A Unique Version Of It. My Friend John The Business Enterprise. Nice To See Some Good Videos On YouTube Well Done! Thank For Putting This Up Enjoyed Watching It.

  • About as easy on the ear as a particularly noisy dentist's drill

  • i studied art in sligo at this time with some very interesting people , this brings back fantastic memiries for all us old Hennigans Heads of that period Terry Browne [RIP ] was the propreiter of that time and under him that establishment flourished , what a time it was....I am glad I experienced the people , place the girls, the friendship. I will never forget that time.

  • That voice and the mullett! Really horrible!

  • Was there in 1986 aged 15. What a day! I'd completely forgot about these guys!

  • I'm 15, and I've just discovered these guys, my mum had all their albums and I adore Hyperspace, I really don't know how these guys weren't more famous :/ <3

  • Loved TNA. Still have their EP called Hyperspace and saw them live in The Baggot Inn once was back in the '80s.

  • and 4 years later. the celtic tiger was born....

  • I like this song but theres something wrong with his voice,Singing live is not always easy i know, but its not sounding anything like the recorded version, now theres something i would like to hear again "The original recording"

  • One of the best songs ever penned by an Irish band

  • Excellent, hes like a sh*it Morrissey!

  • McGea.............i've been expecting you!

  • wow havent heard this song since it was on the radio - when i stayed in limerick in the early 80s as a teenager - brings back fond memories of seeing my family in ireland ( i'd travel from wales every year ) - thanks for posting xx

  • I STILL like the sound, of this business enterprise! lol

  • i was 5 I dont remember this event

  • finbarr o sullivan is the dogs bollox

  • he sounds like hes choking on a big pair of bulls testicles, classic song though.

  • I was about 12 when this was in the charts and even then I couldn't believe that someone with such an obviously manky voice would have the balls to stand up and sing a song in a pub, never mind front a band. Still, this record was all over the radio so they must have been doing something right.

  • Indeed, he has most, em, distinctive vocal stylings. Love it though. Nostalgia fest ahoy!

  • Excellent song

  • one of my fav songs, anybody got a studio version of this?

  • bloody guys are great..metal 1313 is a robot

a sad sounding robot really..was it hal that was depressed?...not sure no it was the hitchhikers robot that was down..hmmm..anyhow..life is great

  • actual fiat its marvin the paranoid android. and hey if i am him then you must be twiki from buck rogers.

  • guess i must be twiki but still its a geat song, i love it yep life is good

  • well at least your comfortable with who you are and if you like the tune as well then good for you.

  • Just saw your comment metal1313,, you're right,, they're not half as good as your group,,, and what would that be?? and how famous are they?? one of the only ways you'll be on you tube is commenting LOL

  • The Digitally remastered version is available on The Best Irish Power Ballads (in the world ever),,, available in Golden Discs,HMV etc

  • wow rtok7 are you the bands publicist or more likely an actual band member trying to squeeze the last penny out of a long forgotten bunch of 80's nohopers.

  • lol :-) Nice one!

  • cant understand a word he is singing sounds like a bunch of random words phrases and sentences slung together punctuated by THAT annoying chorus. god they were shite.

  • Amen to that brother. I'm amazed that it's even legal to post this video. All responsible for this piece of music ought to be behind bars, as far as I'm concerned.

  • i wonder what that band are doing with themselves these days. i hardly expect em to be livin off the royalty money their songs generated through radio plays and record sales. those nervous animals dead and buried and long forgotten.

  • Perhaps they're still gigging in places like Albania and Turkey, or maybe they're rotting in some skanky jail in Somalia or Malawi, a fate they richly deserve for inflicting such pain at a traumatic time for our country.

  • probably number one with "my friend john" in borats home country kazakhstan.

  • they'll likely be bankers.

  • probably work in the top echelons of AIB

  • I know the bass player is still gigging in and around Sligo.

How many bands from 1986 are still making money off their music, anyway? How much did you make from royalties lately, metal1313? ? TNA were fairly decent, especially for a "provincial" band, and this song still gets an occasional (too rare) airing on Irish radio.

Have to say this is a terrible rendition of the song, though!

  • at least your honest enough to admit these jokers cant cut it live. and the singer cant sing either. as far as the bass player still gigging in sligo, well playing covers in a pub band isnt exactly a music career. See the brown ground under the green rocky!!!!

  • He's actually teaching music and playing Jazz - in hotels! ;) and is in demand for session work.

That's a career in any language.

You neglected to say how your music career is progressing.

  • oooh the glamour. playing jazz in hotels around sligo!!! and a session musician too!! faffing around playing slap bass on jingles for coffee commercials isnt exactly what he had in mind when he started out i bet. as far as my "career" is going, i never said i played music i just listen to it and point out crap when i hear it. if that is what your are referring to when u talk about my "career" then yes rocky my career is going from strength to strength. thanks for asking!! Brown ground etc etc!!

  • dodgy white boy funk with jo maxi on backing vocals. any wonder people were emigratin!

  • serious tune cant get the orriginal thou

  • A real blast from the past....good song but those mullets!!! Yikes!

  • Great to hear this song after so many years. Anyone know where I can buy the original? Eireanach in NYC

  • Brilliant, as all Irish music tends to be

  • grew up in the 80s brings back great memories best song ever ken edenderry

  • Jesus Christ! I thought I would never hear this song again. Thanks my man this is Fuggin brilliant!

  • Who is playing keyboards ?

  • denis woods playing keyboards

  • makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. was 16 at the time...was going fishing the first day i heard that. brings so much back.

  • Keep that vinyll album john, gold dust in a few more years! rtok :-)

  • Thanx totmcgrath,,, went out and got it,, and some old faves on that cd too,,,, ahhhh takes me back!! rtok

  • It's a little known fact that the singer went on to do the voice of Kermit the Frog after Jim Henson's death in 1990.

  • No way - I still have my vinyl album. I definetely never expected to see these guys on here. Excellent

  • For those interested, the original has been finally digitally remastered and is on the EMI release of late 2007 called "the Best Irish Power Ballads EVER!!"

  • Sorry about my typing in the last message, love the song, trying to get on cd or any other format, can anyone help. Hugs TNA fan now, rtok.:-)

  • For those interested, the original has been finally digitally remastered and is on the EMI release of late 2007 called "the Best Irish Power Ballads EVER!!"

FYI from a member of TNA: TNA still makes rare appearances, in Sligo Leitrim area mostly, a bit more left field these days but all the better for it I think. TNA Just did a very nice gig Sunday 13 Jan 08, the first gig in over a year, at the Glens Centre, Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim.

  • Irish Chart Info:

Title: THE BUSINESS ENTERPRISE / MY FRIEND JOHN

    Artist: THOSE NERVOUS ANIMALS

    Label: DEAD FLY

    Date of entry: 17.02.1985

    Highest Placement: 21

    Weeks in the Charts: 7

  • Love this song. Anyone know if its on a CD or download?

  • For those interested, the original has been finally digitally remastered and is on the EMI release of late 2007 called "the Best Irish Power Ballads EVER!!" As a member of the band I cringe as it does sound so dated but hey, not as dated as the haircuts, omg what were we thinking!!

  • This brings back memories! Love this version of the song better than the single. We may have been poor, but we had great music.

  • Barry Brennan struggling with the high notes, acoustics all over the place - it was that sort of day at the RDS. I spent much of the gig with a guy called Paul Duddy on my shoulders - we're the two with the "Strabane" flag, brought to the gig in honour of Paul Brady. I suppose this song was right for the time, but it sounds so dated now.

  • Thanhx for posting the video,, love that sone and was looking for it all over the place,, any chance of the single version??

  • Thanks so much for this you have no idea how good it is to hear this song again...

  • thanks so much for that m8. been years lookin for that track. what a day that was. no celtic tiger then !
