Napoleon Dynamite (Animated TV Series 2011) First Impressions

Lol, someone sent me a message filled with profanity saying the series isn't bad, but genius. I know people like bad things but to be so blind of mediocrity is...well deserving of my pity if nothing else.

@McGrunty What exactly are you getting at ? I think the series is decent and funny at times,so how does the message being sent to you have any relevance to what i said in the video based on the first two episodes ?

You'll notice how the awkwardness from the movie was transferred to the show, but it seems as if that being animated makes it less funny. Napoleon Dynamite would have been a better live action series.

@NeilKensington The nature of the medium makes it more funny on film because while watching your thinking about real life ( In a way ). I think a live action series would look cheap ,like "That 70s Show"Don't get me wrong ,I like that 70s show as much as the next guy but you could always tell they were on a set(which at times was annoying).In the movie they captured a 80s retro vibe where he was like trapped in the past (Hard to put into words).They made the cartoon familiar imo.

@RODNEY383 It doesn't have to look cheap. They can still have all the cinematography that made the movie look good, as well as the drawn out storyline. Direct it like how a movie should look, but break it down into shorter episodes.

My only question about this show, why now? That movie came out years ago, wouldn't it have made more sense to release this series soon after the movie? As for the show itself it's just like the movie: Total trash.

You can watch both episodes on itunes for free, in HD. Just look up napolean dynamite. There is 2 episodes and a trailer. Thats where I watched it. Very funny, and free.

I think that something like Napoleon Dynamite only caters to the regular TV watching audience. However, it sounds like it's on par with the fans that watched the movie. Though, I'm not expecting it to get a long run. Like all geeky movies .. like Scott Pilgrim .. the fanbs will come to watch it, but I think that's it.

I think this show has a chance over Family Guy. I watched a recent episode, and good god was it bad. Meg and Quagmire? They already did this with Meg and Joe, Meg and Adam West, and Meg and Brian. And neither of those episodes were ever funny in the slightest. I think the whole show since it's revival and animation change has devolved into utter garbage. First seasons before it got cancelled were decent at best. But these new episodes are absolutely unwatchable. Not sure if you agree on that.

@10191927 I have to admit I get a good laugh from Family Guy and Adam West to me is pure WIN .Everything he does is so random but I see what you mean.Overall I enjoy the show more often then not .The animation looks way cleaner now ,so no complaints there.The Meg thing is annoying but I think their trying to appeal to the long time watchers by focusing on Meg at times to let her get some "Spotlight".I guess all the viewers know she gets shitted on most of the time.

From what I've seen from the first episode, it's alright. I mean the animation was ok and I love the returning cast, but at times I felt that it was way too over the top from what the film was & it made me ask a lot of questions like why is Rico still living with them and what happened to Lawfawnduh?. Anyway, great impressions and umm quick question for you; since you did an impressions for this, have you seen the new Beavis and Butthead? If so do you think you can do a first impressions of it?

@n1cknak I may due a Beavis and Butthead first impressions but that show REALLY caters to a specific audience LOL.As far as Rico ,I don't think they have to carry over movie continuity .

@antrite08 Ever hear of a show called "Archer"? Watch that instead. Way better than watching three shows that are exactly the same premise, with identical characters. Identical humor. Identical supporting characters...You know it;s just easy to call these shows awful.
