Love this song and this scene. When he takes her hand and places it over his heart says it all. I just start to cry every time. That is what all of us need - love and a soft place to fall and many of us never get that basic thing in life. I never would've left Tom Booker. I wish they would make a Horse Whisper 2 and make her come back to him.

Leave it to Redford - and all the time he keeps looking at her husband across the way. The first ending of the movie, had him step into two horses fighting and get killed, because he lost Anne. That's why they changed the ending. The audience hated it. Now the movie just has him watching, as she drives away.

I love how so much is said with a touch of the finger--a look in the eyes--a song....

I wish Hollywood would learn they don't have to bombard us with visuals of naked body parts. I mean...this is about adultery....a subject certainly rife with opportunities to slam us with pornography but this scene says more without showing two people pawing at one another like animals than most any movie scene I've ever witnessed. True artistry.

Watching this clip, out of context, is pretty powerful as it is, but when you watch the whole movie and then comes this scene, played beautifully by Kristin and Robert, punched up with one of the most beautifully simple pieces I've ever heard. The effect, even after a hundred viewings, is like having your heart ripped out of your chest and then stomped on, much to your own enjoyment. Does that make sense?

Right at 2:15 when he looks over her shoulder, at her husband, and faces the reality that she's not going to be staying with him, and the lyrics "You're the one who taught me after all, how to find a soft place to fall" are punching that fact home, makes for some powerful scene making.

Allison's music sure didn't hurt this scene, nor did the direction or the actors.
