Indie is pop music. The Smiths were a pop group. Their lovely sleeves sat among other pop bands, in Woolworths, Darlington, in 1987. My heart still skips a beat when I think of the time I saw Billy Fury, that yellow 7 inch, on The Smiths last single. The NME had a full-page ad in black and white: "THE SMITHS: THE LAST SINGLE." And The Smiths had the integrity to stay dead. That ad was tragic, but beautiful. Quite a day when I turned the page and saw that epitaph.
Indie does not exist. Not the music in itself. Just great music, contractually on independent deals. The Smiths is like Simon and G, The Beatles, The `Stones, Kraftwerk. Same level. Don`t get bogged down with the fashionable "indie" arse.
@steinber Thanks my friend. I bought The Smiths vinyl in 1987. Rough Trade. A few months later, they moved to EMI, a major label. Very special memories, stuck in a country house with my Smiths sleeves attached to the wall. It was clear to me then, that the band would grow in reputation, anf a lot of the other stuff I listened to would fall away. The Smiths would have been bigger than REM, countless others. Did well on a small label, despite lack of marketing. The good always comes out, eh?
20 years ago I drove a girl home from work. She was as cute as hell... I happen to have a cassete of the Smiths plating in my car without knowing she loved them too. We where singing along on the way home back then and up until now. Yeap...We married years later. We absolutely love Morrisey/ for this miracle. One thing I'm sure... if a decker bus crashes in to us, I'll be really happy to die beside my babe. . "To me she is, a work of Art". Love you Mich.
oh MOZ so much to answer..... love you... adore you... and i want see you live again!!!!! "And in a darkened underpass I thought 'oh god my chance has come at last'. But then a strange fear gripped me and I just couldn't ask."

LaMad: passionate comments. Aye. Greatness comes through using the simplest language to hit home - not shite-fed academic words. Morrissey made money by doing the former, remember. Crock of shit, your comment. Shows it up for the drivel it is.
In fact, Morrissey's most famous confession of unrequited love, "There Is a Light That Never Goes Out" ("And if a double-decker bus/Crashes into us/To die by your side/Would be a heavenly way to die"), emulates almost sentiment for sentiment Cuco Sanchez's torch song "Cama de Piedra" ("The day that they kill me/May it be with five bullets/And be close to you").
The most striking similarity, though, is Morrissey's signature beckoning and embrace of the uncertainty of life and love, something that at first glance might seem the opposite of macho Mexican music. But check it out: for all the machismo and virulent existentialism that Mexican music espouses, there is another side — a morbid fascination with getting your heart and dreams broken by others, usually in death
His trembling falsetto brings to mind the rich, sad voice of Pedro Infante, while his effeminate stage presence makes him a UK version of Juan Gabriel. As in ranchera, Morrissey's lyrics rely on ambiguity, powerful imagery and metaphors. Thematically, the idealization of a simpler life and a rejection of all things bourgeois come from a populist impulse common to ranchera.
this is fantastic -morrisey will never be 'forgotten' a modern beatific poet hes there for all time in our consciousnes...can we have a cuuupa urnina... so cool brought me the best gift listening to a coney island of the mind' has no patch on this tis beautiful ad infintium xxx there is a light
Saw Morrissey last night in Brussels, he was fantastic. He didn't sing this unfortunately but was brilliant all the same. He did take off his shirt and lob it into the crowd during encore though... one hell of a rush, some lucky soul got it!
its strange even though now i have gone off morrissey somewhat, there is a strange quality that keeps on dragging me back to him. As for this song theres no doubt its one of the finest ever written

I love Morrissey to bits, couldnt appriciate anyone more but haven't you noticed that ever sinse he moved from england 97/98 or something for LA he changed, he somewhat became less down to earth, and this is from an american lol.
He certainly seems to have more self-confidence and to be happier, I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing. I don't think being crushed in a throng of sweaty crazed people is how I want to enjoy his music. Love him, but don't need to see him live.
I couldn't agree more. I hate being crushed and thrown about in concerts, especially outdoor festivals in rainy, rainy Ireland... god damn mud and sweat.

Thanks for pointing out that I may or may not be a bitter human (being). Define hang-ups? Is it true more so for homos. the "need" be be in a relationship much more-so than non-homos. and not only that but their (homos.) reckless history of having more than 1,000 lifetime sexual "partners", so you see, it is not I who is obsessed w/homos., but rather the homos. themselves!

whydo up to50000fans have an obsession with a super talented gay artist?Does it validate their own behaviors/attitudes?
Thanks for pointing out that I may or may not be a bitter human (being). Define hang-ups? Is it true more so for homos. the "need" be be in a relationship much more-so than non-homos. and not only that but their (homos.) reckless history of having more than 1,000 lifetime sexual "partners", so you see, it is not I who is obsessed w/homos., but rather the homos. themselves!

How does it matter, so long as people take inspiration from his songs, and not his alleged actions?

So you are saying I can do what I want, provided no one gets hurt?
Or am I reading too much into your words?

Wow, that was beautiful. I actually had tears in my eyes when it was over!

Morrissey, the world is a better place because you're in it.

Isn't he just some guy who sings songs, nothing more?
What's the big deal? Why do you like him?
I expect 50 words, no less.

Morrissey Maestro de Maestros... Eres el Wagner del siglo XX. Estilo propio e imperturbable al paso del tiempo.
Tu musica nunca morirá.
Esta no es una canción... ES UN HIMNO.
