Ahh the great XETV and its wonderful announcer Mike McGregor..I loved the Saturday Afternoon show "seymour presents" with some of the best B movies out there...There doesn't appear to be much news videotape on this newscast..
@roon41 May I respectfully submit that you've got your channels mixed up? "Seymour Presents" was on KHJ and later KTLA, both LA channels. My dad and I used to watch Seymour all the time!
@roon41: THANK YOU so much for stating the name of the 70's thru early 80's era XETV announcer/voiceover guy who I never knew the name of all these years! Mike McGregor, huh? His voice has haunted my head since childhood. I'll have to Google him to try to find out what happened to him.
@librarianeric I think it was repeated on Xetv..we didn't have an antenna high enough to receive any LA Stations when I was little..they had to be at least 25 feet up..either way, no worries :-)
Wow! I grew up watching XETV 6 and I don't even remember them having a newscast!?! This must have been REALLY short-lived! LOVE seeing that old rainbow 6 logo here + hearing the old ch. 6 announcer guy in the beginning who always voiced their station i.d.s, promos, and commercials. What was his name??? A voice from my childhood, for sure! Also loved seeing the commercial spot for the long-gone S.D. Federal. I got my 1st savings account there when I was 5! Thanks so much for posting this!
The most memorable mistranslation out of President Carter's appearance in Warsaw mentioned here: "I desire the Poles carnally," instead of "I have come here to learn your opinions and understand your desires for the future."
@sygo7g Check out those menu-board graphics on the "All Night Movies" promo at 3:04. XETV must not have had a character generator at all. Even shoestring operations usually had a low-end CG by this time.
@tkaye2: XETV was a really ghetto TV outfit in those days (waaaay before they were a FOX and now CW affliate) so this kind of thing is not surprising. LOL! Loved this station as a kid though! They had the best afternoon cartoons back in the day...
Fun-to-c broadcast! There's no news like old news, it seems! I hope school-children 2da kno who al th famous who died n 1977, at t end of t video, r! (Remember Capt. Kirk's quiery b a Clark Gable movie! Newscaster is good...is he still alive? (Of cours, no-one was evr as good as Roger Grimsby/Bill Beutel in NYC...but that's another story...)
Love the graphics!

@roon41 No disrespect, but Seymour was not on a San Diego station (although we were able to pull it in) - Seymour was on either KHJ or KTLA.

XETV's transmitters were in Tijuana, were they not?

The anchor in this newscast mentions the Palestinian issue. This was 32 years ago and the Israel/Palestinian conflict still hasn't been resolved.
Fuck.

Koreagate? Is that one of the earliest instances post-Watergate of utilizing the now overused "-gate" suffix?
