Only 43,755 "409" engines were produced from 1961-1965. (varying from the low end 360 HP & 409 foot-pounds of torque engines in '61 all the way up to 425 HP & 425 foot-pounds of torque in '64.....the '65 409s were down-rated to 400 HP & 425 foot-pounds of torque). This total does NOT include trucks. Production amounts..in passenger cars only. 1961-142 1962-15,019 1963-16,902 1964-8,864 1965-2,828 They are treasures if you can find one. A 409 Crate motor will cost you $4000.00..at least.
I am looking for a rebuildable 409 chevy v8. Vin code shows the car to be a 64 409 4 speed manual car. I am trying to restore to the original specs. Like the clip, nothing like the sound of real American muscle brought back to life. pitstop043@aol.com
Wish the sound quality was a little better. Still you have to love the sound of a Big block.. small blocks are ok, but the note from the big blocks is just OHHH so Sweet...
Nope Cheverolet still made 348's, and 409's till the late 60's i believe. I sold my 1965 truck 348 last year and found that for commercial use anything from a fire truck to a dump truck could have them put in.
nah, production stopped in 64, still found there way into cars in 65 but your right some 348's were still found in 1 1/2 and up gas powered heavy truck apps.
1965 was last year anything, that had factory 409 power. Chevy full size cars with 409 were very low production that year. Maybe more showed up in trucks though.
My hometown FD had a '62 firetruck with a 409. It was in service till the late 80s.
