Vince McMahon should buy the Dome. I think it would be good for WWE, have it as a second, but smaller, Headquaters while having Live Events and TV Tapings there. That way the Dome could still be used. Its hard to think that Wrestlemania 17 was here only 11 years ago, and i was packed to the rafters, seing it empty is saddening.
Anyone from the Golden Triangle will know what I mean when I say that the Astrodome is also known as the "Big TeePee." Still remember the '99 state championship game with 34,000 PN-G fans in attendance. I was in elementary school and can still remember the size of the sea of purple on our side of the field and how small the Stephenville crowd looked in comparison.
They should fix it up and lease it to the local school districts for various sporting events. No reason for it to go to waste. These pie in the sky ideas to make it into a hotel or an amusment park will never happen.
@billybassman21 The county let the dome go to $%^*. And one main point to prove this is the fact that there are NO A/C coolers outside of the dome anymore. They tore them down a few years back. They already had in mind to close this place down a few years ago. It's upsetting. My uncle worked for Harris County as project manager at the dome...this place was part of my childhood. :)
@BugattiVeyron4514 I don't know what you would call them, but they had "rolling" machines that would roll up the different turfs for either baseball or football then store them under the stands.
@BugattiVeyron4514 they had turf for both, which is where the term "astroturf" came from because it was the first stadium to use it. The field was changed by moving the field level seats which were on a rail system like railroad tracks
I still remember going to Astros games and the beloved Big Blue games.... I miss watching Stabler and Jerry Glanville on the sidelines. Still to this day people ask me who's my team and my reply is the Oilers haha. Good video man, shame its not being used. Love Ya Blue!!!
@BobjumpA If I got caught, I could explain being in the stands, but not in the locker room.. lol.. im sure most of the good stuff has been ripped out anyway
I live here in Houston (only been here a year) and everyone says the security there is tight, the building is basically no longer up to code and needs millions in renovations just to make it habitable. They need to do it - too many rumors of a possible tear down or implosion in the near future. This building is a national treasure.
oh and on that video homeplate would of been to your left, evident by the big tunnell to your right that was beyond the CF wall and solid black seating in centerfield (hitters backdrop)
remember the 1st level field seats were on track and moved
I tried to go inside the dome during the Rodeo but was all secured, Security guard told me he was not even allowed inside said very few people actually go inside now and only few people are allowed access, Reliant employees are not even allowed inside. Said it was also home to hundreds of feral cats now. Said he has been inside the dome twice since he had worked there, said it was errie feeling. I hope they refurbish the "eight wonder of the world and find a new purpose for her.
You need to try and go back sometime soon. Great video for what you were able to shoot. I was able to walk around Wrigley Field in Chicago in the dead of Winter via an "Unlocked gate" :-)
My cousin who works for the management company at the park can't even get in there. They have the gates and doors chained on the outside. So they just left a gate open? I believe you, but why would any gate be unlocked. That place doesn't even have a certificate of occupancy and hasn't for years. lol

I have a question, how do they change the format of a baseball field to a football field

@BugattiVeyron4514 I believe they had carpet for both sports

@BugattiVeyron4514 Also some of the lowerseats have a mechanism and will move depending on the sport that is planned to be played.

At least seems pretty well conserved, and wasn't demolished as all the others of its kind.

@nategomez832 If you did ever wanted the Houston Astrodome to reopen then It would still not be the 8 wonder of the world
BugattiVeyron4514 3 months ago
@nategomez832 .. it may be nostalgic, but nobody wants to play on turf anymore
