  • nice drum sounds in all your videos! do you do metal? your sounds will easily fit in that genre as well. deep and punchy!

  • @johnosstreeter Hey, thanks! I have played metal before and always have fun when I get the chance to do so.

  • @bleener nice! i would really like to hear it next time you do if possible. i really like these Ludwigs, and Gretsch too. even being a modern metal player i like the classic look. ;) looking forward to your next video :D

  • Sounds amazing!!! Those toms sound great, I'm thinking about picking up some m179's for toms (3 pack from Zen Pro). What mics are you using for kick and hat? What other mics do you like for overheads beside the 414's? Thanks!

  • @psufilm Thanks! On this vid the hihat mic is a Shure SM81 and the kick is a Beta52A and a MoonMic subkick-style mic that I was reviewing for recordinghacks. I like a whole bunch of different mics for overheads depending on the sounding I'm going for - I've used U87s, Coles 4038s, AKG 451/452/461, SM81s, Lauten Audio Torches, Avenson STO-2, AT4050s and probably a bunch of others!

  • @bleener Thanks for the info, Keep up the great work on the kit and in the studio!

  • Nice work! Tasteful playing, GORGEOUS sounding drums.

  • @LuckilyHeDied Thanks so much!

  • Sounds great. What are those mallets you use in the beginning?

  • @Viper9059 Thanks! The mallets are from an old Remo kids drum; I've had them in my stick bag for almost 15 years now!

  • I could listen to that kit all day long.

  • More awesomeness.

  • Outrageous as usual!!

What is the suspension on your toms? Are those the Ludwig bands?

  • @ppfd Heh heh - thanks, man! The suspension mounts are the current Gauger RIMS aluminum with the half-plate rather than the giant square/rectangular mounting plate. Svelte... :-)

  • Very nice solo. Are those coated G2's? Do you have a 14" Left and 16 Right Floor toms? I can't really hear the difference with the 414 versus your other overhead mics, can you tell from behind the kit?

  • @SONORSQ2guy Thanks - it's wanky... :-)

The left FT is a 15 and the right is a 16.

The 414s are a classic sound to me - I've used them for years in almost every studio I've ever been in for a number of things and it was time to have my own. They sound a little different in the mix than some of my other mics, but it's when they are soloed that I can really hear their particular character.

  • Nice job man, sweet sounding toms too.

  • I like it. :)
