Gave me a hardon......what mountains are you flying over.....couldn't get any better than that.....powerful Lancair to fly amywhere you want....land and go skiing....4 wheelin....trout fishin.....or just hit the bar, have a beer with a hot chic....like I said don't get any better than that...!!!
No assumptions here Re: the question about "Superchargers." A supercharger is turned by a belt usually directly coupled to the front of an engine as part of the existing pulley system. It has no lag to its ability to instantly begin its boosting duty. A 'turbocharger,' on the other hand, is powered by exhaust gas from the engine's exhause manifold. As such, it has a perceptual lag before it assists with power boost. Hope this helps. Knightsix
Is it supercharges as in the description or is it twin turbo as in the title. Please be clear. I don't think I've ever seen a supercharged General aviation aircraft in the modern era. Most use turbos. How about some pics of the engine which is what make this lancair special. They all look the same on the outside.
@fixitmekanik412 Technically, the term "supercharged" refers to any piston engine with a forced induction system. Supercharging as you and I know it was the first method of forced induction used to "boost" the performance of the low efficiency radials. Turbochargers were implemented in WWII on the Merlin and other similar engines, but were still referred to as superchargers. I'm going to assume that you know the operating differences between the two systems.
@thejohnnybob Well, I'm not being 'technical', it was just a simple question, turbo or supercharger installed on it? Question was targeted to the poster. I mean if you want to be all technical and stuff and whip up some obscure definition from some book back in the 20's I suppose you could make some kinda convoluted argument that it doesn't matter. Just a simple question, I don't see too many supercharged aircraft engines in the airplane postings I regularly visit these days.
G'day. 801. I have general question regarding the (loading) changes within the airframe. With regards to the 3.5 inche roof reduction. Is this a mod, that Lancair had to calculate to meet your requirements, Or something found, within the original design boundries. As it is an impressive, mod. Anymore clips. ??Ths.
I work on turboprops and I was wondering if anyone knows if this airframe could handle one? I pretty sure it could seeing as there are different options when it comes to turbos. Just had to ask. It would be a beast but your gpm would go up :(. Also I dont think they are as reliable as a pistion engine but thats because the ones I work on are older than my mother.
@fergo123 Yes, mate there are units, that would suit, given stress, calculations, ect, To be taken into consideration, Units avaliable from, R/R. turn out 350/ 400 hp. for a 122, kilo weight. But consider the costs, of hot end , inspection rebuilds, when the hrs are up. Not a pleasant experiance. In this cat--, best to stay with the piston.
There is no luck in being rich. It is like being a pilot. It takes planning, a dedication to being connected to the real world, discipline, being to say "no" to yourself for a long time and beint able to get that money is NOT about buying stuff, it is the building block of how you build a business. Beining rich is a commitment like being a good father. Both contriibute greatly to your family and the community.... believe it or not.
@johnNYgoesLA . I have wealth. Am I Rich, well I am not Rupert Murdoch, but I am also not poor thats for sure. That question is just button pushing. The word Rich just means a really high goal defined in Money. If you applied all the principles of achieving something in physical exercise, they all work for wealth. Consistent activity, not giving up, being smart about it, having a rethink every now and again, resting yourself etc, its just a process. Its not magic.
Are you living here in Utah? I'm in Utah. Want to take me on a demo flight? :D
I saw a Lancair buzz Bolinder-Field (Tooele Valley Airport) on Saturday. He said on the CTAF that he was going 235 knots or something like that. VERY fast.
i dont understand how you cant, the lines and symmetry are all there. Maybe the 16 cylinder engines are missing but the lancairs performance compared that of its competion is such that it might as well be 16 cylinders.
@801pilot , what is the exsact model of the plane? i cant seem to find a plane like your that doesnt have the rear windows? is your just an older model or something? i need enlightened.

@beaconmaster1 The original builder (pro builder, has built over 30 planes) worked with lancair on the structural engineering of the chopped top.

This is a highly modified one of a kind legacy. There are no back windows because the top of the plane was chopped down 3.5 inches to reduce drag.
