Both of his feet were in the air when he caught the pass, therefore, he is given the liberty of an extra step, especially since he has so much momentum. Then you are given two steps once you pick up your dribble, of course, you have to be moving, and he was, so it wasn't necessarily a travel.
I don't know this NBA bullshit ''5 steps, no travel called'' rules, but in Europe you can't take no steps before the ball has touched the hardwood or you can use 2 steps but after those you have to shoot or pass. Also, I don't need no replies on this on the theme ''NBA rules, Europe sucks'' and so on.
You're allowed one step before a mandatory dribble, and sometimes gracious refs give you two steps if you're running too fast for them to count. If you look at any break away dunk or layup, they always take one or two steps without dribbling before the jump
Jamont takes the ball in two hands in mid air. His left foot touches the court as he moves the ball from left to the right side in his hands. His right foot touches the court as he begins to dribble. Just after the ball bounces from the court his left foot touches the court again. Then his right foot touches the court. Finally he leaps with his left foot to make the basket. That's 5 steps. That is not 2+2. Outside NBA that is a travel!
How can y'all say no travel? Are you blind? He receives the ball and then makes 2 step before start handling. If you know basketball rules, you know that's travel.
If you're making a move to the basket directly taking 2 steps is perfectly legal in hoops. Now 3 steps will get you whistled at, but not 2 in that situation.
This travel problem with NBA players is going to bother them on the Olympics because international referees don't think two times for calling a travel
yeh ive been playing basketball at competition level since i was 8 years old so i know my violations very well by now. ive referied a fair bit also. i really dont like the calls or should i say no calls in the nba, espicially for kobe, lebron, wade and all the faves.
He dribbled between steps. There was no travel.

What you here described is a travel. Ball has to hit the floor before you take a step.

He actually dribbles on his first step, you can dribble the length of the court with like 5 bounces you know.
