  • preview? show the whole fuckin movie why dont ya haha

  • Farrah's legs were the proverbial icing on the cake.

  • I saw this movie back in the day. I think it should be remade as it has some wonderful story lines which would be great for today's audience. Michael York and Jenny Agutter were wonderful in this movie.

  • music from ice station zebra

  • The Movie was Supriseingly better than the book !

  • I have an old video of the launch party of this movie on my Sunshine Boys DVD,which also includes it's party after the preliminary shooting was completed.

  • Doctor: "Would you like the face job or the full body job?"

I think I'll start with just the hand job please.

  • Oddly enough the narration and scoring (and sound production) of this preview are a bit of a throwback: if you suspend your personal experience of the film (and of the mid-70's) you can almost imagine the first bit of this as if it were a short film about the future made a by a mega-corp for the 1965 World's Fair.

  • everybody loves to compare this film to star wars on the level of special effects and also laugh that the set is a shopping mall. first mega shopping malls were not common place in 1976 like they are today. most malls were only a group of stores connected with a series of hallways. there were no food courts, arcades or large open spaces. ok special effects. first off i love star wars for many different reasons and i'm not downing the film but it's overhyped to some degree. cont. in next comment

  • @coolrog0705 outside of the space sequences the effects in star wars weren't all that groundbreaking. lightsabers very cool looking but it was only simple rotoscoping. animated laser blasts that looked better than previous efforts but again not groundbreaking. people rag on the guns in LR but don't understand what they are. they are energy blasters not rayguns. the costumes. they reflect the wests reverence of what it considers to be a golden age of civilisation which is the ancient greek -cont

  • @coolrog0705 and roman era. why don't people question the system or wonder about the outside world. they live in a presumed utopia where everything is handed to you on a platter so why ask questions. do rich kids sit there and ponder why am i so rich and priviledged or do they just take it for granted and enjoy it to the fullest. carousel ritual - most of the people truly believe as do the believers of todays religions that there is a renewal of life. one through technology the other through god

  • This could have been used to promote a shopping mall . . . . in the 1970s.

  • Thank for posting, Logan's Run was one of the last significant pre-Star Wars sci-fi films with a very modernist look at the future

  • Logans run came out in 1976 which was one year before the origonal Star Wars. There is also a plan to remake it but i think there have been some hold ups for some reason? Its a real classic eugenics sci-fi dystopia.

  • Ice Station Zebra music

  • damn 30 year olds!!

    (wait - that's me!)

  • I VE GOT ALL THE SERIE FROM 77/78

  • If there was a Sci-Fi story in need a remake...it's Logan's Run!

  • @Berkut13 As a fan of the novel,which I read first,I couldn't agree more.

  • @Berkut13

Oh yes just what the boring movie industry needs, another good film being turned into a cgi fest, with people like Ian mckellen in it and a soundtrack by Nickelback or linkin park. Pah! i'll just continue to enjoy the original it's a proper film! :D

  • @Berkut13 it is slated to be remade with Nicolas Winding Refn directing (Drive, Valhalla Rising) - it could be awesome.

  • I seen this film as a girl at the theater in the 70's and thought this was the most innovative movie ever and now after many years i still think it is before its time. I am not sure but I believe this was before the first Star Wars.

  • You are correct. It was a year before (1976) the first Star Wars film (1977).

  • @terrifairyangel ....yes it was released in 1976 one year before Star Wars

  • @terrifairyangel I love how you specified "As a girl". Would have been much more amusing if you'd said "I saw this film as a girl in the 70's, it helped me become the man I am today." Never the less I agree completely, Fantastic movie!

  • The opening models of the city and exterior are still impressive today.

  • Uhm, so there are no minorities in the future?? Or maybe just not in this one domed city. Kind of like the first Star Wars movie. Even similar in that they used a black actor's voice (Box in LR and of course Vader in SW) but no minority actors. Oh well, still entertainling movies. And I'm not saying it's better or worse either way. Just saying it certainly seems strange.

  • yes but in the future or the new world order there is segregation they still live in the projects LOL

  • the race card is so ghetto and done with. get over it

  • The background music in this trailer is actually from the "classic" 1968 MGM film -- ICE STATION ZEBRA. Apparently

MGM, BORROWED that soundtrack for this trailer, rather than paying someone to write a new score. However, none of the Ice Station Zebra music (heard here) is in the actual film - Logan's Run.

  • It's typical for a studio to use another films music or songs for the previews countfiero as the soundtrack is one of the LAST things that goes on in a films development production wise, and they want to build a buzz about the project before then. The worst example I ever saw of this was a preview for "Remo Williams:The Adventure Begins"(ENDS was more like it, it BOMBED)where they ACTUALLLY used the Indiana Jones theme in it! The "Ice Station Zebra" stuff was interesting. THIS is a great film.

  • a bit like the film equilibrium?

  • This "preview" shows the whole movie for free!

  • I remember when this came out. Even by the standards of the day its special effects were sub par.

  • And, yet, it won an academy award for special effects!

  • Well I'll be darned. I just remember thinking how faky it all looked when I first saw it back then.

  • yeah, this waw a great movie!

  • I remember how awesome this looked in the theatre when it came out and I was 8! Even then I liked the look of Jessica 6 in her mini. :)

  • It's only the greatest motion picture ever made!

  • I thought that was Highlander?

  • Which one? After all, hehe.... (wait for it).... there can be only one!

  • Could they give away more of the movie? LOL Still... Love the film. Thanks for posting the "preview."

  • wow i cant wait to live in the year 2008 it will be incredible take me there now

  • I'm really surprised Hollywood hasn't remade this yet. I'll probably eat my words; they probably are. I saw this as a kid & the carousel scenes disturbed the hell out of me. It's funny, by now, I would have been zapped years and years ago already, since you only got to live till you were 30. I would have been dust in the wind ages ago. I had't seen this in years till I stumbled across it on YouTube. Thanks for posting.

  • Yah, the carousel is creepy as hell!

  • Yeah, the remake is supposedly back in pre-production, with a new release date of '10. Stay the hell away, Keanu, or I'm sending out the Sandmen.

  • Sir Peter Ustinov plays the kindly old man.

and My God! Here';s the nude swimming scene.

  • Cool Preview, the music score is from Ice Station Zebra, also cool movi. Composed and Conducted by Michel Legrand.

  • I don't get why Jessica would have a British accent and all the others Amereican if they have all been in the same city (near DC) for so long.

  • As noted, this is a product reel. The reason scenes are in it that weren't in the final cut is that the movie was still in production. Note the temporary music track. Great Brad Crandall voiceover! Thanks for posting.

  • Rare & Good summary. Wish the recording quality was better, but still *****

  • Some of the city scenes were shot in Eastridge Mall, San Jose, CA...a shopping mall!!

  • So the engineering section of the "new' old enterprise in Star Trek is the Budweiser factory!

  • look at that! They still wear their hair in a conservitive 70's style in the 23rd century!

    cool!

  • This long preview was intended to be shown to theater owners, with the intent that they would book the film into their theater. It therefore did not matter if the preview contained most of the elements of the movie. From the perspective of the theater owner, the more info the better.

  • "You now don't have to watch this movie, we basically showed you the ENTIRE movie in this preview. You got it already. So don't come and see it in the cinema."

  • Wow, that was basically the entire movie's plot, in order as well. Not dissing the movie—I love it—but for those who might have been 50--50 about going, I am not sure if the preview encourages them!

  • One of my favourite movies ever!

  • In the words of Ross Geller, Logan's Run is the "sexiest movie ever!"

  • I have also seen "The Island" and it was eerily familiar. The I remembered: it had almost the exact same plot as a book I read when I was nine.

  • If your into these type of flicks, check (if you haven't already) THX 1138 by good ole George Lucas. It is very simular to The Island.

  • @ShambhalaL7 The Island is a remake of The Clonus Horror, and you can't see the original THX 1138 easily anymore - just like Star Wars, Lucas only releases fucked up shittily CGIed up pieces of crap versions of that film.

I fucking hate old Lucas. I think he's a pod person now, and the original Lucas died a little after 1983. Remember, in 1986, he produced that stinking pile called Howard the Duck.

  • Um... all of you that said anything about "The Island" i hope you're not talking about the one with scarlett johanson. It had NOTHING to do with Logan's Run at all and it was good. I saw them both and Logan's Run was terrible and made no sense. You guys are all old and pieces of shit. you should maybe get a job and move out of your mom's house.

  • The "running from a dystopian society" theme has been used in countless films and stories... Logan's Run wasn't the first nor the last; everyone rips off everyone and everything in the world of entertainment...

  • Wasn't this from a book?

  • There was a series of Logan novels. The first was Logan's Run. Then there was Logan's World, and after that, from the reviews I've read, the quality went el schlocko... but Logan's World is supposed to be quite good.

  • The book is pretty interesting. It spends a big part of it explaining HOW this world came to be.

  • never have I been so proud to be an old piece of shit, and, suprisingly ashamed of having a job. Love my mom and dad, I don't live with them. You of course know that we all bow down to your superior knowledge and clever way of speaking. Hey, congrats on finding a hotel that allows pets.

  • thank you for your enlightened comment. you have truly contributed to the furtherance of humanity. many aeons from now, songs will be sung of the great "Fourseasonskid4" who, like prometheus, brought enlightenment to the human race. i join with the rest of humanity in saluting your genius.

  • It is not the genius of I, but rather that of this wonderous technological society of tomorrow that I speak of, my friend

  • It all looks so lame now but I'd watch that movie again anytime. Great memories of a great time to be a child. Oh and yes, when I saw "the island" I wanted to puke, Blatant.

  • cant wait for the time where all women go braless....

  • Jenny Agutter, yum yum.. (goes all quiet, blushes slightly)

  • Heather Menzies was hotter in the series!! Check my Logan's Run tv intro.

  • O my god this the same as the film "The Island"

  • Yeah, no kidding. "The Island" is a total rip off of "Logan's Run" but not nearly as good. Check out Logan's Run". It's a cool movie.

  • Wow.

There sure are a lot of differences between the book and the movie.

In the book, everyone had to die at 21.

The book was set in the 21st century, not the 23rd century.

  • MGM was obviously having trouble getting up to speed with 'modern' times. A 70s film seen through a 50s eye. Despite its awkwardness, I still like this movie.

  • opens and sounds like "tomorrowland" at Disneyworld narrated by Walter Cronkite or something-- takes away from the film... good thing I saw this after the movie.

  • the 23rd century, where sophisticated technology has created an automated world of wonders, machines to wash dishes, digital watches, electronic calculators...

  • Yeah, actually, it totally does. I was just thinking that while watching it.

  • what inspired them to name that robot "Box"??

  • Are you serious?

  • read the book then you'll know.

  • he was an accomplished pugilist.

  • the music is from ICE STATION ZEBRA

  • Watch out... he's going to shoot you with his oversized butane fireplace lighter!

  • That's what I thought. LOL!

    But those lighters packed

    a lethal punch. :)

  • Thought this trailer was great for those of a more refined sensibility perhaps. Todays trailers flash 20 scenes per second as the announcer speed yells stuff. Guess I'm not of this era.

  • Don't you just hate how old trailer's would tell the entire movie?

  • Its not a trailer. It's a promo for a preview audience.

  • can´t wait to get this one on DVD.

  • Oh man, say it isn't so. Logan's Runs was a really good film, but this trailer makes it look really trashy.
