You'd have to be in shallow enough waters that uncontrollable dives wouldn't take the boat too far down. Ramming was a perfectly acceptable and effective method of destroying submarines when the range became such that other weapons could not be brought to bear. The destroyer will win every time. Escorts will try this all the time in all the SH games. It's your fault if you get yourself into this position in the first place.

But ships like the Modified Black SwanClass Sloop still did it as they had strengthened bows, especially at the stem. There was a large, heavy steel "triangle" there to punch holes in U-Boats. The most successful U-Boat Hunters were2nd Escort Group with Modified Black Swan Class Sloops. They got over 30 U-Boats mainly due to the tactics of Captain Walker.
Once i saw a destroyer approaching through my parascope and then i started ti submerge guess what my parascope tore a hole all the way throguh the bottom of the destroyer it sunk 5 mins later after i sent 3 torpedo's and 2 flak shells into it.
Today i had a Destroyer ram me. He damaged my Flak Guns and my Watch tower. I was trying to evade him on Silent mode to escape from Depth Charges. After 30 seconds i see the Destroyer sinking cause it fucked up itself during the ram xD
LOL! Oh man had that happen to me the other night. It was rough seas and my RO said he detected radar signals, so I went to the tower and was looking around asking Watch Officer if there are any sightings..next thing BAM this destroyer comes in over a wave right on the aft of my VIIC lol.

let me say this, if i can run the game with only a single intel pentium 4 ht overclocked to 3.89 ghz, a 1gb of ram, and a NVIDIA GeForce 5200 fx series grapgics card, you will have no trouble.
no way, your running this game on an 5200FX!? thats crazy talk!- look at the graphics, how could this game possibly run on an 5200FX- the water is very detailed, let alone the sub model and other ships sailing around in the ocean are prably very high res to, you must have a magical 5200FX.

@MatzeHellwig WRONG, The only Nazis where the SS and the High Command. The Wehrmacht, Luftwaffe, and the Kreigsmarine were just men doing a job. Remember, WWII took place after the Great Depression, Everyone was looking for jobs and the army/airforce/navy had them.
@Gestapo1940 finally someone enlightened enough to look at the general german armed forces as men doing their duty just as the allied forces were,,,youre a rare pleasant sight and I aint even german! :)
@GamingLeeLee Well I look at the broader picture, not just the little bits here and there. The way I see it, If you look at the events before WW2, the Allies accually started the whole problem starting with the treaty of Versialles (<-I think that's how it's spelled)
Playing SH4 right now, I just like the feel of the controls better in SH3. Granted some things are better in it, but I still want to be able to ask my watchman for a contact update lol.

Oddly enough, when I actually go out of my way to ram a destroyer with my boat, the impact doesn't kill me! What kills me is when the Brit flying boats crash into me. That happens a lot when I have three heavy AA guns and elite flak gunners!
Actually there are seeking torpedo`s. Their acoustic torpedo`s. They come out I think around 1943 cause I used to load out my aft tube with them for taking out Destoryers. Only thing is they can outrun the early Acoustic ones.
all torpedos are magnetic, they have a magnetic or impact pistol that causes the warhead to explode. The magnetic picks up the magnetic field of the iron hull and explodes used for under the keel shot. But they have a torpedo I belive they have the warhead painted RED and you shoot them in the general location and if the screw`s are spinning fast enough or making enough noise like on a warship it will lock on and follow it.
That happen to me to many times,the ship sank and the u-boat manage to survivea few times depending on what type the ship was.TIP:make sure u are submerge at a 12meter depth so only damages the bridge.

This was actually a common effective tactic. They got the sub to surface with depth charges, then fired shells at the sub, and rammed the tower.

well try to run head to head against a warship, when you are in periscope depth...
it's not fun but with a bit of luck you may even survive... with a destroyed tower... and some hull percentage left...
