  • OMG that floor is going to look ugly. It's WAY to uniform. Hand-scraping is an art where a craftsman looks at the grain in the wood and works with the individual board. This guy is just scraping two lines down each board.

  • @kw757 i have to agree with u on that one,

  • @kw757

Not so. They are mostly removing the varnish. The grain of timber lies in an overlapped fashion, like tiles on a roof. To see this you have to look at the side of the timber as well as the face. Floorboards are laid tight against one another. You can't see easily which way the grain runs. Scraper tools are sharp. They take fine shaving, to prevent tearout. Search youtube for 'Gustave Caillebotte' and see a painting of how it was done in the 19th century. It's almost identical to this.

  • @MiCompre Not so???? Are you blind? A moron could count two lines down each board. I can see the grain in the wood even on this crappy video, so anyone who says that you can't easily see the grain doesn't know anything about lumber. The fact that floorboards are tight together has nothing to do with seeing the grain. At least post replies about things you know something about. I run a shop building custom, handcrafted furniture, FWIW.
