cept Japanese home building is anything but high quality craftsmanship. I know. Lived in Japan for 14 years. Its like 2 worlds. Craftsman and tradesmen. Fortunately the former is very alive.
For those of you who do not understand the meaning of quality workmanship, In Japan this is considered an art. This is not something learned overnight, These craftsman are constantly striving for perfection, to them everyday is learning experience. Think of that when you view your next poorly constructed house.

Thanks for posting this clip . I was amazed with the fit of the joint. I was also amazed by the ratio of sensible comments to sensless drivel comments that were posted.
Why does somthing that shows such skill threaten the half wits so much?
Ahh, using the ol' foot vise! Those japanese dudes sure are limber!
I'll stick to my nice twin screw and face vise, thank you. I can feel my leg cramping now! That or I'd have a chisel hanging out of my foot in no time!
hehe - complete bollocks - I am a master and I can tell you that is a single piece of wood which has been cut with a band saw - notice how the grain is perfectly matched etc - are people this stupid jgm-ni
There are no better craftsmen for wood than in Japan. With all the Wolfcraft equipment available a western carpenter wouldn't be able to make a joint like this one :)
think he should build a aeroplane if you got to listen to that music allday

We didn't see the full finished joint. It looked like it was supposed to have a pin in the center.

@spacehopperballs hey master can you explain how you could cut the tenon bulging out of the surface of the cut with a band saw?

@spacehopperballs
Hey fathead, you must have a funky shaped blade on your band saw, because mine only cuts straight through and doesn't leave a tenon in the center.
Mind telling me where I can pick up one of those tenon-in-the-center-of-the-cut band saw blades? I sure could use one!
Master of nothing, you're a keyboard expert sir, and those, my friend, are a dime a dozen, and sometimes less!
Go back to World of Warcraft, you're likely much more useful there.

a lot of those joints have a wood pin through them to lock everything in place. i thought the hole in thejoint might be for that

mass production is destroying the native arts the world over, so, yes, it is bad.

yup power tools are so overated!!
for mass production yes..
lots of great monuments and things that lasted 1000 of years up to this day were made w/o power tools!!
look at all the TV programs they all use gizmos just to cut a hole in a wall? well except for Roy Underhill
emforty2 3 years ago
partly true. problem is only the rich get "stuff" when things are so fancy. its just how it is. so all in all, mass production aint so bad;)
