  • Kicks the studio version's ass.

  • Im going to correct you all, THIS IS LEGENDARY. But IRON MAIDEN: LIVE AFTER DEATH comes a close second.

  • one of the best sounding live concert recordings made. The performances are superlative - most better than the studio versions (although Halford overdubbed the vocals but who cares they're awesome). The live recording engineer (Y. Suzuki) was fantastic - even with the equipment they had to work with back in '79 this is pure metal genius!

  • every man shall FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!

  • Tyrant!!.....against the pantssss humidity. Tyrant !!....against human stupidity.

  • I like the live version much better than the studio version, no disrespect to the studio version, it's just that the live version seems to have more life and feeling to it

  • it still gives me goose bumps, this album, after all these years..nothing surpasses it....

  • 2:40 on one of greatest solos in history....

  • There's a better live version of this song (imho): watch?v=Mil3LjdmAfM

    But both are incredible!

  • Still loving Judas Priest until the last of my days!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome bass line

  • I saw Judas Priest live for the first time back in 1979 at the Long Beach arena in support of this album. I couldn't believe what my ears and my eyes were experiencing as the band totally fucking blew me away. I had been to concerts of Black Sabbath, Kiss, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Van Halen, and a few others but I had never experienced nothing as brutal as Judas Priest. Take me back to 1979 so I can experience that concert once again.

  • Bass player way underrated. Well done!

  • Yeah !! Ian Hill at 3:05--Kicks ass !!!

  • BEST LIVE METAL ALBUM EVER!

  • Beginning to end. I'll put up this album, tape, disc, whatever that hell you wanna call it against anything out there. If there's a metal album that's a 10, this is it!! Tyrant. What a suitable way to end it.

  • best live album in rock history. they rock your ass off. Love It!

  • ironically enough, 70's sabbath was much more important to the 90's metal and so on. The 80's metal was judas priest entirely

  • @cherryorchards

Entirely? I love Priest but you're giving them too much credit. In addition to Priest, many bands of the 80's (especially from 1983 onwards) were also influenced by Motorhead, Scorpions and RJD era Sabbath. Not to mention the playing style of Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen (even if VH weren't full on metal) had a huge impact on many 80's metal guitarists. I would know, I was there.

  • @ABurialatOrnans1 don't get me wrong pal, i'm definitely not a judas priest fanboy. I was talking about that typical 80's heavy metal sound, which Priest pretty much defined while they were in the 70's. Yes, UFO did stuff like Rock Bottom, Scorpions did stuff like Virgin Killer, so on. But Priest were way ahead of their time while Sabbath were in that Never Say Die period. As for 1983 onwards, thrash metal came (alog with the motorhead and hardcore punk influences), as you know.

  • @cherryorchards

Sabbath broke out of their creative rut on Heaven and Hell and influenced many so bringing up Never Say Die would be irrelevant. They were still very important in the early 80's. Thrash wasn't the only thing that came along 1983 and onwards, there were still plenty more of traditional metal bands in those days. Savatage, for example, put out Sirens that year and it was still heavier than a lot of the thrash bands.

  • @cherryorchards It depends of what you consider "80s metal". There are people who think 80s metal is glam metal. As everybody knows, this style was completely influenced by bands like Kiss or Alice Cooper. But, as its not clear if glam metal was really metal, you can say that 80s metal is thrash and early power metal. Then, you could say that Priest was a very important influence, and in a lot of groups this band was more important than Sabbath; but Sabbath had a very important role too.

  • @FastasaShark1308

Depends on what you mean by glam. I do know this though, W.A.S.P. are not in the same category as Cinderella, Twisted Sister are not in the same genre as Poison. The formers are pure heavy metal.

  • @ABurialatOrnans1 But, in general, only a few glam metal bands were inluenced by metal groups, the majority were influenced by hard rock and glam. Well, Cinderella, Twisted Sister and Poison have a hard rock sound, early WASP too.

  • @FastasaShark1308 who are those people who thinks 80`s metal is glam metal? i was thinking more of bands like, say, Accept. Nonetheless, i know Sabbath was very influential, but for heavy music in general, from new wave of british hm to bands like system of a down. Especially "modern" metal (pantera, machine head, type o negative etc) who focused more on heavyness than speed, wouldn`t you agree? even grunge had lots of sabbath on their stuff

  • @cherryorchards The people that think 80s metal is glam is the same people that think glam metal is the most similar subgenre to heavy metal: they are posers XD Black Sabbath has influenced everything on metal, but you have reason, styles like grunge or even hardcore punk were influenced by Sabbath sound. Doom and "Gothic" metal (something gothic cant´t be metal, metalheads and gothics are too diferents) are influenced by Sabbath too. I dont know, maybe tou are right.

  • @FastasaShark1308 I've heard bands like Poison and Warrant do Judas Priest covers, so I think that Priest was an influence on them. A lot of glam records sound like Priest's 80s material, so I don't think that it's a wild assumption that Priest was an influence on many glam metal bands at that time, as they were arguably the most popular metal band in the States before MTV turned their focus to glam.

  • @nri222 A lot of glam records sounds like a FEW Priest´s songs; specifically: Livin After Midnight and United from British Steel, full Point of entry album (a hard rock album by Priest, it´s like Load for Metallica, but better of course XD), (Take These) Chains and Youve got another thing coming (and they sounded heavier than the majority of glam commercial songs) from Screaming For Vengeance album. Well, I have heard Tigertlaiz doing a cover from Metallica´s Crepping Death too.

  • @nri222 Certainly, Motorhead has influenced a lot of glam bands, from Twisted Sister to Precious Metal. But their sound is closer to Speed metal (or even Punk) than Glam. With Judas Priest is the same. Glam bands don´t usually make songs like Grinder or Riding on the Wind.

  • Along with Maidens Live After Death, best live metal album ever!!

    Tyrant- birth of Thrash!

  • great bass during the solo

  • It true they overdubbed the vocals for this concert in the studio? That's just what I've heard.

  • @mwheeler1994 On some tracks, yea, cause he had the flu or something during the show they tried to record.

  • @CleosAintPeter Was it just for some of the tracks, or the whole album? I heard they also overdubbed a couple of guitar bits

  • I can play this album all day every day and never get tired of it! It's the best heavy metal live album ever, since Priest and Sabbath rule anyway. Crank this shit up full blast!

  • anytime you hear this, studio or live, is a great night or day, and football...you are all

  • Fuck!!! what a killer song, one of my favourite priest songs. The ending scream of ''fall'' is like 15 seconds on the studio version.I dont think anyone can ever pull that off now,not even Halford. This version kicks ass too.

  • The Tyrant clicked dislike

  • BEST FUCKING LIVE ALBUM EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrLongisland70 let me correct you: BEST FUCKING LIVE ALBUM EVER EVER AND EVER AND EVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh so that is what eargasm meant. I guess you don't know until you experience it.

  • the only "bad" thing here is that rob has to do the backing vocals on the chorus, so he says Tyrant then quickly sings his part. It still rocks btw.

  • @brasileirorusso I think the way he does the chorus sounds better than the original recording.

  • @Megadeth632 To me "Sad Wings of Destiny" is nearly a flawless album, I am a little torn. I think that I would like how he does this style better if I were hearing it live in person, but otherwise I think on the album this is a mesmerizing song.

  • @xxdanxexx Yeah, I guess it's partly because I've heard this version more so I'm usedto it.

  • 1 person is a tyrant

  • My brother went to see them live at the Hammersmith in 1980. support band? Iron Maiden. Sounds as good as they ever did.

  • This version is unbelievable. And I say that from the point of view of LOVING the studio version. I can't believe how great this song is. All of the songs sound great from Unleashed in the East.

  • This record sounds beyond amazing on vinyl

  • @drquesadilla i have the vinyl to ... Original \m/

  • @headbanger6661990 Hell yeah!

  • that solo fuckin rocks!

  • the good ol days, when being in a metal band meant people actually expected you to write good music.

  • From one of THE great live albums...

  • Brutal like no other, JP 76-79.

I only listen to early stuff, still have my priceless vinyls and concert stubs. A fan at 13 since 'Sad Wings' release, w/ 'Stained Class' being their best studio LP, imo.

'British Steel' opened the gates to radio-friendly, crowd pleaser tunes, "commercial" JP had arrived. When 'Point of Entry' came out, it was a BIG WTF?! Then MTV played it's evil part w/ heavy rotation of "You got another..."

I thank the metal gods that I got on the JP wagon early. \m/ \b/

  • @MeanrBeanr Great comment, I thought I hated JP up until I gave "Sad Wings" a listen.

  • @MeanrBeanr Yeah. Stained Class is great XD

  • @MeanrBeanr Point of entry is just okay, but they rebounded with screaming for vengeance and defenders of the faith, 2 of their best albums by far.

  • this is the truth

  • What an awesome live album!!!.. The songs sound 20 times more awesome than on the album!!!..

  • oh my fucking god O_O

  • I fucking love Priest! sad thing is that I cant fucking find any of their albums anywhere :( I will not settle with downloads!

  • @Ironmaiden654 If you have a record exchange near you, look there, or just get the CD's on Ebay - thats how I completed my collection of Priest CD's, through Ebay. Some CD's are really hard to find in actual record stores - making online shopping basically the only option.

  • @Ironmaiden654 Priests cds are fucking easy to get online, amazon, ebay, etc.

  • tHE BEST METAL SINGER IN THE BUSINESS, BAR NONE!!

  • what a smashing riff

  • See, all you pop-tart skanks.... NO AUTOTUNER IN A LIVE PERFORMANCE! This is fucking metal! Live it, breathe it, learn it!

  • @laney50w

None today can touch greatness such as this.

  • @lookingforfun70 YOU KNOW IT! :) "Halford"....The man....the legend....THE "METAL GOD"!

  • DAMN THIS FUCKING SONG SHOULD BE THE DEFINITION OF METAL, OR RIFF, OR GUITAR, OR ORGASM... chill down, it took talent to write such a stuff back in 70's

  • @AdammTheDude FUCK YEAH!

  • 1 dislike? ... there is always someone that is against. He was obviously just trying to get some attention

  • Unleashed in the east has to be my fave live metal recording ever!

  • @yugster78 yeah man either this or Live After Death by Iron Maiden

  • This is by far the BEST version of thsi song.. it rocks so much harder then the studio version does, mind blowing

  • oh my god

i just listened to 2 different versions of this and the original was so much more gritty and awesome

  • @guy158 yeah, but the production on that album really is thin. this one has all the muscle the original was lacking IMO.

  • AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! ...sum.

  • i love the ealiyer work better, although theres nothing wrong here, but they sounded something unworldly in there earliyer work just listen the other version and ur mind will go into its true and most excellent form.

  • @silentzombie161 I love their early stuff too. Sin After Sin is one of my all time fave albums. I still have it on vinyl! Some killer songs on that album!

  • JUDAS PRIEST IS THE BEST HEAVY METAL BAND EVER!

  • ONE OF THE MOST EPIC LIVE RECORDINGS OF ALL TIME !

  • rock

  • Les Binks - their best drummer

  • @Rottweiler88 No Simon Phillips, Les is almost as good though.

  • @Rottweiler88 ooooh yeah!

  • @Rottweiler88 1.Simon Phillips 2. Les Binks 3.Scott Travis 4.Alan Moore

  • @Rottweiler88 Les was a damn talented drummer! He even co-wrote "Beyond The Realms Of Death". And truthfully, I thought Dave Holland was a damn good drummer, as well. Maybe not as technical, but one HELL of a timekeeper.

  • great live song great live album/cd great band : ]

  • No one ever mentions how brilliantly Les Binks plays on this album. Incredible.

  • so energetic...

  • This has to be one of the best Albums ever made. From start to finish it amazing

  • One of my favourite Priest song.

  • jeez this is one of the best live metal albums ever!

  • Every man shall...FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLL!

  • Those lyrics are a mouthfull to try and say at that tempo. Rob was amazing back then.

  • I Digg Unleashed In The East. Where is there some actual Live, footage?

  • i'll never understand why other songs are more popular than this one. just a badass tune!

  • To this day this album fucking rocks and sounds fat as hell!

  • more like the beast, unleashed speaking of slithering and a whole wad of truth!

  • brutal !!!

  • if only metal was still as kickass as this...

  • You will raise your fist and scream, you will ride into battle and piss on your enemies' graves, you will destroy false metal and you will head-bang until you're blue in the face, because the TYRANT says so!

I can't even properly punch somebody, but with this song on, i'd be ready to fight anybody, even Bruce Lee himself, and would act so over the top and violent that i'd probably win. Ha ha!

  • isn't there anyway to rebuild halford's throat? with all today's technology sure there has to be a way.

  • The harmonized lead in the middle section is one of the best harmonies of all time in my opinion.

  • THE FIRST & BEST LIVE METAL ALBUM OF ALL TIME!!!

its just a classic rock/metal masterpiece...it will stand the test of time...forever...

    HAIL THE METAL GODS----->JUDAS PRIEST!!!

  • I listened to this song... And I JIZZED IN MY EAR. :D

  • It's grown to become a very serious issue that such humans exist that can produce such a loud and infectious music!! METAL GODS!! BADASS LEATHER BRITONS!

  • IMO the chorus sounds dumb with Halford saying "Tyrant" instead of the band doing backing vocals. And there are no vocal harmonies whatsoever. Sorry but the studio version is much better to me.

  • @alreadytaken334

Why should the live-version sound exactly like the studio-version ? I don't mind a bit of change at all.

  • @Bridge1961 No harmonies.

  • @alreadytaken334

The original Tyrant had no backing vocals it was still Halford but slowed down (played at the same time).

  • LMFAO One person dislikes this! That's pretty hilarious! I guess it just goes to show you that there is always one person with no musical taste.

  • the last scream in the studio version has to be like the best metal scream ever!

  • They are not called the metal gods for nothing.

  • Priest Rocks with Power!

    Great live track & Production.

If Only drummer Scott Travis Played with them back then.

  • @guitarstar717 I Gotta totally agree....When priest aquired scott travis, the band became Even more of an incredible force. No disrespect to dave holland, Its just that scott's an absolute monster....

  • @bongnbud and dave's a pedder....

  • every live version on here is better than its studio version

    fuckin great!

  • one of the best metal songs, Priest all the way for ever.

  • this version much better than the studio version- love it - loved them when i seen them during that tour

  • Bumper Hustler, REST IN FEAR

  • first real speed metal song....ever!

  • lol

  • I like that assessment!

  • Tyrant is one of my all time favourite Priest songs. I'm just wandering why Rob sand the Tyrant part in the chorus instead of letting Glen and K.K song it like on the album version. Oh well it still kicked arse.

  • They never really do the back ups well for the early albums live. No biggie, still rocks.

  • so aside from a few songs that arent on it anyone know the chronoligcal order the 4 bonus songs on the reissue would fit into the original album if you wanted to play it in order it was performed

  • This is in my eyes the most excelllent song of the album, all is A+.

Never seen anyone trying to sing this song, I think it's impossibly difficult, a shear masterpiece in heavy metal history,

    Sharkie

  • This is timeless.

    I never get bored.

  • Kickass.

Rob knows what's good to your ears.

  • I like the studio version, but I wish it was arranged like this version... I mean I know its the same song pretty much the same but I like it faster and Halford sings the "Tyrant Capturer of humanity" part different live obviously because hes the only singer but over this song is better fast like this

  • Comment removed

  • @mikexlong one thing,, please load up genoicide

    live in tokio,,wouldnt you????

  • @iiimusika ummm that;s on here somewhere.

  • @mikexlong i bet halford digs it too

  • @unclejimbo827 probably...

  • One question regarding this piece. Who plays the lead guitar on this one. The fact that Tipton co-wrote the song would hint the Downing would play lead, am I wrong. I just want to be sure for the sake of inquiring minds. Thanks.

  • They both play lead guitar on every song.

  • Holy shit....i had multiple eargasms.

  • @qcpat ME TOO...

  • @qcpat ME TOO!!! \m/ \m/

  • @qcpat me too

  • Fuck i loved the Album version

But after hearing this live version the original really sucks

  • WTF, you didnt really think that one through did you.....the studio version is an absolute beast as well as this one. It would of been much better to just say which one you liked the most, not instantly dislike the original just because you've heard this one, your like a glory supporter for christ sake.

  • Ehm i was trying to say how much i liked this version over the original, ofcourse the original dosnt suck.

    DUMBASS!!!!!!

  • Well you said yourself that it sucked and now you've suddenly changed ure mind? i'm not going to carry on arguin but i am provin a point. Next time if your goin to say something similar, stop and think before you type.

    Keep on rockin' priest!!

  • Your very lives are held within my fingers

I snap them and you cower down in fear....

    Tyrant!!!!

  • This Album also had in my opinions Judas Priest drummer, at leased until Scott Travis. I especially really like his drum fills. No one plays like that any more.

  • that's how metal is done. 10/10.

  • when it comes to a live performance, this is perfection

  • Kneel before the METAL GODS!!!!!!

    TYRANT!!!!!

  • I worship at the alter of rob halford and judas priest, all hail.

  • All hail faith bro!!!!

    JUDAS FOREVER!!!

  • tyrant!

  • Respect The Priest,

    you fucks

  • Three bands that don not disappoint LIVE

    KISS

    PRIEST

    NIN

  • No, it isn't while the album was touched up (you know, like every other live album ever), the many of bootlegs of this and other Judas priest concerts will testify that they are more than capable of this performance.

  • It doesn't freakin matter. Live-studio... it kicks ass AND it was totally innovative. Way before it's time. This album unleashed what is known as Thrash, Speed, Death Metal.

    ALL HAIL THE PRIEST

    \m/

  • This is performed Live.

Yes, it sounds VERY good for Live and everything is almost spot on, but you can hear some slip-ups, it's not studio...

  • Research it on Wikipedia.... The joke with'in musical circles was that it should have been called, "Unleashed In The Studio."

  • If you ever seen Priest live in this era they were perfect...........Wikipedia my balls

  • Unleashed in the east broke it out! Live version was better than studio!

  • British steel set the standard for metal.

  • my top(no.1) of favorite metal album~!!

  • I'll admit, I don't really like the studio version of this song.

But this live version has so much more awesome to it, it makes me wonder why they would ever play it slower.

  • I totally agree man, this is by far the best track of this song that will ever be, and it rocks so much harder then the studeo takes.....

And it;s a great party song to boot :-)

  • This is the better Heavy Metal album recorder alive

  • We must kill hitler!

  • I'll shank him in the neck with a sharpened stick to get a point across
