Mike Wallace just doesn't get it. Ayn is absolutely correct. And to think she said it in 1959. We are not a democracy, where the mob rules, but a Republic of, for, and by the people. One law for all, not special rights for special people. SBR, you're missing the point. For example, they make regulations so very few can control interests in commodities... You and I cannot become importers of sugar, or oil... Sugar should be 10 cents a pound if the free market were allowed in this country.
The "hack" is Mike Wallace. He has a name. He is a human being. Mike Wallace went on to have a long and respected career as a journalist.
Ayn Rand is an elitist. Notice how she stumbles over words like "Democracy". She speaks going backwards in political history to where few had rights as they do today. She only wants to protect the "rights" of the autocratic ruling capitalists.
Her politics were probably her biggest folly. She was not an economist. She was a writer scarred by Stalin.
@SBRslacker00 Mike Wallace is a hack and Ayn Rand is not an elitist but a brilliant mind way ahead of her time. Democracy is idiotic. We were originally a republic where the individual reigned supreme not the state and not the mob. Democracy is an outmoded idea that will eventually fail. We will eventually have to have a society based on the supremacy of the individual or our world will fail and be destroyed. Think!
Why do you think the world will fail unless society is based on the supremecy of the individual?
Why do you think Democracy is outmoded, idiotic, and will eventually fail?
If there was a time when the individual reigned supreme it was because of the circumstance of the times. In modern times the world is more tightly interwoven by technology. In the early frontier there was always room for endless expansion. Now there's no place left to homestead, no frontier to claim.
@SBRslacker00 The frontiers would be endless if we had real liberty and a voluntary philosophy of contributing. The state is and hopefully will be considered an idea of primitive thinkers. The state prevents new discovery and ideas. It is only a tool for enslavement of the individual. The state wants to put round pegs in square holes and is no place for original thoughts and ideas.
If there is more competition, there are cheaper prices. Just look at the computer industry... better quality, cheaper computers.
