Customer Reviews:
This is a great camera it may be similar to the Lumix and other cheaper cameras, however it is more stylish, beautifully designed, simple to use and has many added features such as a GPS system which automatically locates and documents where the photo was taken and a touchscreen for easier usage. ...

@ScottJamesLewisNJ I've answered comments like this over and over. Yes, it's basically the same camera as the Panasonic. There's a full comparison on the PhotographyREVIEW site. Check it out.
PhotoJohn you give very good explanation of this Leica. I've always been into photography but as of lately not so much. My main reason looking into Leica is because Steve Jobs compared one of the iPhone 4 qualities was compatible to an older Leica camera. So I have started looking into Leica. Nice job!
@atomicorang Glad you liked this video! The cameras Steve Jobs was referring to were the high-end Leica rangefinders. If you're interested in those, you should visit PhotographyREVIEW and look up my "Dream Date With The Leica M9" article. That camera is the real deal! :-)
@MyStormVideos Ha ha - I wouldn't say that. If you read my complete reviews for the ZS10 and V-Lux 30 you'll see it's a great little camera. I just think it's pretty difficult to justify paying the extra money for the Leica version - unless you've got money to burn and you really like that red dot.
@MyStormVideos I guess you didn't watch the whole video ;-P Go to about 4:40 and I address your question. You can also visit PhotographyREVIEW and there's are pro reviews for both the V-Lux 30 and the Panasonic ZS10.
@tiggerkaren Leica sent me the camera for review and I did not pay for it. The camera belongs to them and has been retuanred. The leather case was not in the camera box so I have to assume it's a separate accessory.
I believe this is more for selling this camera than things for our knowledge. Yeah the touchscreen is cool, the full HD is cool, the 40 fps mode is cool but that doesn't say much about it's functionality in certain conditions :S everything is just playing cool.
@genocidepv Are you saying my video is for selling the camera? Check the link I included to my review. You'll get the full story there and you'll find that I'm definitely not trying to sell the camera. It's cool. But in this case, I'd choose the Panasonic.
Believe me, only people that can't afford this camera or stingy would complaint about this camera. Lol.
People who get this camera ( I'm one of them ) we don't mind to pay extra for the red dot. Why not. Life is short and if we have the money why whine ??? Lol
@ar4216 you clearly don't know what you're on about do you?... we were talking about the leica vs it's panasonic counterpart..... if you wanted my actual opinion on a good compact i would get the D-Lux 5 or an X100.. the XZ1 is great in all respects, the samsung on the other hand is plain rubbish (in my opinion. would much rather the NX10)
@PhotographyREVIEW HaHa! Nah, but I just did. Anyway, $749 for the Leica versus $335 for the Panasonic. I've heard people who own the Leicas claim that there is a difference in the picture quality and people who own the Pannys who say there is no difference. It would be interesting if you posted the jpegs from each camera with no info on which camera took which picture and see what people say. If they prefer the Panasonic, the Leica, or they don't have a preference/can't tell a difference.
@PhotographyREVIEW It is nice that they include the Adobe software. If you don't already have any that makes the camera more attractive. But it still leaves a couple hundred bucks extra you're paying for what I suspect is at best a marginal improvement in jpegs. And if you already have post processing software or don't use it you're paying over $400 more for jpegs. I think this is a camera for people with more money than sense, people who want to say they own a "Leica".
@ar4216 it's not only a marginal improvement in the file quality it's also an improvment in color reproduction and sharpness..
clearly you do not know how to differenciate these differences.....
i've dealt with idiots like you before one telling me that the Olympus EPL1 was better than a Nikon D700.... simply because he thought that the interpolated resolution was the reason for "better" quality when it clearly made no difference
@ar4216 lol the leica version is ALWAYS improved.... it's like comparing the Nikon D300s to the Sony Alpha A750.. same sensor but the Nikon version has much better quality and more improvements... tard
@ichirootaniguchi I don't believe either example you gave necessarily holds true. I recently reviewed both the Nikon D7000 and the Sony A55, both of which have the same sensor and they pretty much have the exact same image quality. After evaluating the V-Lux 30 closely, I don't think it has better image quality, either. My hands-on review is posted on the PhotographyREVIEW site now if you want to check the images for yourself.
@PhotographyREVIEW hmm. the sony is certainly a good camera no considering they've really upped their game but i found in my own tests that sony cannot cope with the color rendition i require unlike the D7000. this is on the field comparisons i'm talking i will have to get another sample of each camera and post my own comparison to show you. but i found that sony struggles with color balancing and rendition where as nikon handles the files better. ofcourse if using RAW it can be fixed after..
@PhotographyREVIEW also remember i noted that it was the D300s vs the A700. this was prior to Sony upping the performance of their cameras. the D7000 vs A55 comparison is obviously a better comparison since they are both current models and are dramatically improved. the WB controls of the A700 were plain rubbish when compared to the original D300. nikon did increast the performance of the sensor. not dramatically but enough to be noticable
@ichirootaniguchi I thought you were speaking more generally. I haven't reviewed either the Nikon D300s or the Sony A700 so I'll take your word for it. But regarding the Leica V-Lux 30 and the Panasonic Lumix ZS10, I couldn't find a practical performance difference between the two. That being the case, I'd have to go with the Panasonic :-)
@PhotographyREVIEW yeah i was being a little specific :P although i agree. i would pick the panasonic over the leica simply because of the price difference. but leica's simplistic design sorta wins me over a bit. sick of cameras with too much junk on the front end even though they're identical in almost everyway the leica design just gets to me haha
