his tone in and of itself is very good, being very focused and resonant, but i do not like how he plays everything incredible straight. he does not phrase NEARLY as much as many other players. compare him to phil smith playing piccolo for example
MA had a very bad day that day - I was at that workshop and at the beginning he excused himself because he had had to go to his dentist directly beforehand and was playing under the influence of the anesthetics he got there.
Under the same circumstances, I would not have been able to play a single note.
And, at the end, he is explaining, that he only had two hours of rehearsing with the accompanying band - children.
his era has only begun, he has/had many students...not to mention all of the recordings we have...Maurice will never be gone while we can still hear him. remember that.
