Hey guys. Havent been on this channel since like 2 years ago. Does anybody know if he still goes out with that girl that he dated while the year-round videos were shown? Thanks.
Ai weiwei ,hes the man who wanna change the whole system.so he couldn't get much support in china. Han han ,the most famous protester in china, few days ago,he wrote some blogs,he said he want to have right to free write but not revolution
recently, there are some protesteres in wu kan village of south china.they anti the local government BUT they take out the constitution and read it loud ,they talk to the local gov :you have to obey the law and the beijing government!! at last the beijing gov made a deal with the protester and they can revote for the village head.so you can see,in china, people will angry about some illegal behavior but they don't want to change the system.at least now
Hi Dan. Nice topic. I just want to clarify that the Chinese censorship of the Internet isn't really complete shut-downs. They just build domestic clones of Youtube, FB and Twitter over which the gov has more control in general and in case any "high-political turbulence" happens. These tools have indeed helped people to hold the gov more accountable when they're doing a bad job (eg. the train crash in Wenzhou). Ppl do protest, but they good humoredly refer to the protests as "performance art".
@gauntlander those Chinese domestic clone products of facebook, youtube and google are call renren.com, youku.com and baidu.com, all of which are under the CCP's heavy censorship. If users type in with any sensitive words or phrases, the whole message gets undelivered, typically on QQ, the chinese clone of MSN. And people ironically call it an act of he xie, which literally means homonise
This is a really stupid question, but what are your views on stereotypes? (English people cook bad food or Americans are fat-asses) Personally, I hate them and I think they're stupid. However, some of them are pretty funny like Canadians say, "Eh!" a lot (I'm Canadian).
AWESOME!dude my friend in China just showed me your video on one of their website in China. great work! sadly, developing projects on Great Firewall of China is said to be VPN blocked. means no proxy anymore in the future :(
lol i've lived in so many countries and by far the country with the least amount of freedom is the US. All you guys have is the illusion of freedom. Travel a bit. People abroad are happier, and have more stuff than you will ever have.
@ControlledChao5 Very True. in 09 I went back to China during summer. I was taken by police simply because some unfavorable comment I said over internet. :-(
But corruption in government is slowly being governed a bit more strictly by the chinese governemnt e.g. the town where i live, the mayor was so corrupt that he had enough money to buy a ferrari for his 2nd wife (not legal wife dont know wat its called in english) he was sentenced to death role with no bail
But i agree with dan's point that citizens and residents live in fear of the chinese government becuz of their control in most public facilities and jobs through corruption of government in big coperations. I know for a fact that government officials are easily bribed in china and will not do as you say if you do not do so becuz there are other people who are willing to get things accomplished through illegal means.
Hey PogoBat nation i just want to say that in China, there are media sites such as renren (chinese equivalent of facebook) where you can talk about almost anything. Even the arab spring up rise.
wowhwowowow, mate, I will download this and then upload this to a Chinese widely used video websites and let it be seen by Chinese students, most of which remembered u and like u, and I believe this video of urs could be another hit since ur last series of Chinese trip videos!
mark my words dan, 2012 will be a significant year in human history. we are at a crossroads. one way leads to the continuation of control, manipulation, war, and crime, the other leads to the opposite. next year will be a catalyst for massive change. we just have to decide what that change is. this "change things" type of sentiment will NOT get smaller, it will only get bigger. and once things get really big and wacky next year, just remember the guy who posted this comment on your youtube.
Hi Dan & Fellow Youtubers. The Great Firewall of China is growing stronger... They shut down proxies like mad. But not my newly bought VPN weee... So living in China for the past 6 years I can say... "The Big Brother" is making it hard for the average Joe. Fear forces people to self-censorship. 800 mil below the poverty rating and most of the others don't have internet at home. So they have to use Cyber Cafes.. New rules last year: NO foreigners & NO access without Official ID. Scared yet?
I would love to see you make a video of you breaking down how our Government works. Example 3 branches of Gov L, E, J, and these things do this and that, I would like to see you start becoming a hub for this kind of forum and have your own website organizing these kinds of teaching tools so that those of your viewers will start learning from you. Kind of like your rubrics cube tutorial. Anyway
@sckD0JO did you read that on newsvoice? everything they said was way out of wack, go to npr.org and read their article on it. There's really nothing too controversial about it
"Lopsided distributions of wealth"? Just like the speed at which different people would be able to run 1000m would also be lopsided. Dumbass, poverty is when everyone's life sucks equally, e.g. USSR. You have no understanding of basic economics. Go and fuck yourself
how bout you dont put background music pogo we can load up our own fave song and play it in bacground, Clocks for instance, goes well with the topic of this vid i think "tides that I tried to swim against, have put me down upon my knees..."
In my eyes, China will be a difficult nation to be a democracy. Thomas Jefferson once said that a democracy cannot be sustained withing a nation that is too large. Look at it like this, larger nation means more land and more people. More people means more power for the politicians and rulers of countries. That power will begin going to that political leaders head, corrupting them. The best way for China to become a democracy is to elect representatives, but that still may fail.
One of the primary reasons I joined YouTube was to keep myself informed about important issues such as those that are perfectly expressed in this video. As I age I get more & more cynical & suspicious about the "established media" & the distorted opinions it "promotes". One of the things that gives me some hope is the existence of these new IT based forums, a new "public media" that can only increase in strength as all ages become more computer literate. Good video Dan - eloquent as ever :0)
china can't go pro communism or pro democracy for a simple reason if they chose any of the options a lot of people will die (we are talking about two hundred million people)
@makchunghin Do you actually believe that's communism? Although the party is called "Communist Party of China" it has nothing to do with the learnings of Marx. What you are seeing is a corrupt, imperialistic, capitalist dictatorship. Something that in my eyes is a really bad system.
I'm not saying communism is good, but it's not what China is having right now.
@JeyPeyy I am sorry but I think we all know better then you. No disrespect but we are living in it. It's not that conspiratorial at all. Some of the bad news in China is fake, though not all of them are true. Dictatorship, but it's communism. China was terrible, 6/4 and on and on and on. But my country is becoming better and better. I know I am not good at politic, I may make some ridiculous mistakes so please bare with me.
@makchunghin Communism is an ideology which strives after a classless, moneyless and stateless society (look it up on Wikipedia). China is neither one of those, that's why I'm saying China is not actually real communism.
I know China is becoming better in many ways, I've been there. But I fear that China wants to become a capitalist empire, and we don't need one more of those (the biggest one being USA). I sincerely hope everything turns out well for you and your country.
@JeyPeyy I hope so, It's still not affecting me. But in 2047, it may affect me. Because after Hong Kong is returned to China and China promised that nothing in Hong Kong would changed in 50 years. (In this 50 years, we are not control by China, at least we will not get caught by saying such thing on the internet) Just hope China will be better. And talking about capitalist empire. I think China is always passive. It's America. Because the upraising China threats USA.
@JeyPeyy I have a more positive outlook on this than you do. China is striving to become a capitalist empire, and no matter how much Americans don't like it, they're coming closer to their goal. To accomplish this, though, I think China will have to make some DRASTIC changes in their government. They'll have to fit into the idea of a superpower, a country that has influence, money, and power to make nice with the bigger countries. China still has that image, what with the kind-of-communism gover
i dont want to sound pessimistic, but i think dan overestimates the connecting power of the internet. its just communication, and by extension organization, which is important, but communication wont fix everything.
@Ace4929 it doesn't exactly mean that it can't be the best one though, and honestly a solution is a solution. It would be best if the solutions were ideal ones, but as long as it gets something done it worked.
@chopomo 'as long as it gets something done, it worked'? thats not necesarily true. when stalin initiated the purges, it got a lot of murder done. im not saying that that will happen, however i am saying that while I dont doubt the internet's connective power, you will find that much of the internet is hatred
@Ace4929 Lol getting all that murdering done as you put it was a solution to Stalin. He wanted someone dead, so he killed them off. A solution is a solution just have to look at it from the point of view that the solution comes from. In other words when i say if it got something done it worked it still holds true because it did work murder was Stalin's solution.
@Ace4929 But he himself saw it as a problem, and also saw it as a good solution. I think it is something you have to view from the point of the guy with the problem. You say it wasn't a problem, but to him it was.
Dan I recomend you look up RSA animate internet in society on YouTube and watch the first video that comes up, I think you will find it very thoght provoking.
I hope that there is a Chinese Revolution at some point in my life time because I think it would really help them as a country move forwards and since they are such a large and powerful country, it would help the world move forward.
@Joshstamps I'm not saying necessarily a violent or military revolution but a social and political one. One that will grant the people of China more liberties and freedoms.
this like has everything to do with what we've been learning in my history class for the past two weeks. i wasn't really listening and then i heard Big Brother is watching and i like died cause thats all my teacher has been saying since we started reading 1984 a few weeks ago (hes kinda crazy).

i dont want to sound pessimistic, but i think dan overestimates the connecting power of the internet. its just communication, and by extension organization, which is important, but communication wont fix everything.
Ace4929 3 months ago
@Ace4929 But just having the ability to communicate allows us to fix things. Collective minds come up with numerous and interesting solutions.
chopomo 3 months ago
@chopomo well, an interesting solution isnt necesarily the best one.
Ace4929 3 months ago
@Ace4929 it doesn't exactly mean that it can't be the best one though, and honestly a solution is a solution. It would be best if the solutions were ideal ones, but as long as it gets something done it worked.
chopomo 2 months ago
@chopomo 'as long as it gets something done, it worked'? thats not necesarily true. when stalin initiated the purges, it got a lot of murder done. im not saying that that will happen, however i am saying that while I dont doubt the internet's connective power, you will find that much of the internet is hatred
Ace4929 2 months ago
@Ace4929 Lol getting all that murdering done as you put it was a solution to Stalin. He wanted someone dead, so he killed them off. A solution is a solution just have to look at it from the point of view that the solution comes from. In other words when i say if it got something done it worked it still holds true because it did work murder was Stalin's solution.
chopomo 2 months ago
@chopomo I wasnt saying that it didnt do anything, i was saying that it was a horrible solution to a not problem.
Ace4929 2 months ago
@Ace4929 But he himself saw it as a problem, and also saw it as a good solution. I think it is something you have to view from the point of the guy with the problem. You say it wasn't a problem, but to him it was.
chopomo 2 months ago
@chopomo well, what was good for stalin obviously wasnt good for his people or the world

I hope that there is a Chinese Revolution at some point in my life time because I think it would really help them as a country move forwards and since they are such a large and powerful country, it would help the world move forward.
maggiehanna 3 months ago
@maggiehanna if China go to war with its self it would destroy the world in more ways then one.
Joshstamps 3 months ago
@Joshstamps I'm not saying necessarily a violent or military revolution but a social and political one. One that will grant the people of China more liberties and freedoms.
maggiehanna 2 months ago
this like has everything to do with what we've been learning in my history class for the past two weeks. i wasn't really listening and then i heard Big Brother is watching and i like died cause thats all my teacher has been saying since we started reading 1984 a few weeks ago (hes kinda crazy).
