@BigRedBee48 from experience i would say get your hair about 10centimetres at least, but you could try to do one dread n see if it stays.it a lot depends of type and texture of your hair. would recomend just try to do one dread first n if you feel its too short just wait a month, try again untill you feel its locking:)

@alicexlovee i didn't do all the head, only these 4 dreads and they just came undone in 2 weeks as she didnt maintain them n washed her hair every day and brushed what was left after that. :)

@xxxxHoshixxxx yes it is a bid bad bitch to brush out, but if you do it slow n with A LOT of conditioner its doable !

I'm just curious, what do you do when your hair grows? Does it automatically wind together like a dreadlock? If not, how do you make it a dreadlock if the bottom part is already one?

@nwbxvcmqlskdjfhg well for me now they grow into dread, but there is also a bit of loose hairs, so i just leave them now, I use to use crochet hook to put them in a dread and just rub them against my scalp to form a dread!:)

@nadiarox100 yeah swimming and washing your hair as normal definitelly will effect dreads, but what you could do, is to tie the string or band around them so they are more secure and decorated if you like.. thats the only advice I can think of right now. :( xx

If you like you can go on this website called YouTube, and there is a search function so you can go and search something like 'how to take your dreadlocks' and you will see actual VIDEOS of people doing it !!: ) WOW I know..... And yes, your hair gets damaged depending on the time you had dreads, the way you had them and the way you take them out.. etc, Good luck searching it;)

I have curly "black" hair and im black-hispanic and this method works better for me than the backcomb method. I also put dreads in my friends hair who is asian with her i had to backcomb it and then use the twist and rip method.

Same way I made mine, but I lightly backcombed before I twist and ripped :) It took me over 24 hours to do my whole head on my own, and the back was so painful for my arms haha!
