Pardon me, but some comments are purely dumb. A Chopin waltz is not meant to be danced, and so speed can be exaggerated , its a piano piece. The performance here is very expressive with A LOT of emotion. So again, I am surprised how many thumbs up some of the stupidest comments get. I guess stupidity is never scarce, I wish cash was like that!
@shilloshillos So true my friend and thanks for clarifying that. He is an excellent expressionist and I love the way he explodes in his tempo then pulls it back at the same time. Exactly how the rubato technique was developed. My wording is probably a little odd but I think you know what I am getting at. ; )
It's sad to know that if you don't have a great pianist to teach you, you won't make it through the world of music. And you can only afford to study with great pianists if you have lots of money, otherwise you'll just be playing easy pieces, with no feeling, no technic
Why play this waltz so fast? When dancing a waltz, it does not run... A correct panist must play this waltz with his heart and not with his stopwatch!...
@superxinyang Jesus Christ I was just joking mate, how could be able to learn such a hard song after only 2 hours, and being only 6 months old, I mean for real people u are starting to lose the planet u are on to.
Very interesting how some people here judge a brilliant player like Sergio.
The art is to develope his own version, put your own emotions the way you are into the piece, that is playing piano and not trying to copi something you cant understand.
Very, very technically proficient. I wish that he'd slow down though. There's nothing I can say about his technique, but he plays this song not much to my preference.
I suppose it's nice to mix it up though. Who's to say?
@pupusman That's like saying it's okay for a ballet dancer to spin on their head and do a couple back flips just because they can. Performing classical piano shouldn't be about showing off; it should be about preserving a piece of artwork.
I disagree, playing any instrument is all about showing off. The problem comes in when you substitute emotion or feeling with technique. Since he maintained stability and tone through the fast passages, it makes the fast parts sound exciting and invigorating.
@hellboyreloaded obviously he does, being a musician you don't have to follow the sheet for every little thing. You are your own person, you can interpret things the way you please. There is no right or wrong way to play anything, that's just dumb.
i like this. this waltz is often 'twisted' into all kinds of shapes and sizes. in this performance there is just the right amount of rubato and artistic freedom. the middle section is expressive without being indulgent. the fast sections are not too fast - fingerwork is clear, and it is exciting to listen to
I don't agree with his style of playing on the fast parts. He plays way too fast and it gets rid of any emotion and expression. You could get a robot to do that...
Chopín isn't meant to be played correct, it's meant to be interpreted. This is another interpretation of the undying classic. Sure, for those that has heard the original tune, it's a bit fast. I have as well, but I think this is a really good performance.
@tharwpoop To my ear, this sounds more of a serenade a la Schubert than a classical waltz a la Strauss or Shostakovich. (if you pardon my using only composers that start with the "Sh" sound: Chopin, Schubert, Strauss, Shostakovich).
2 general performers composers, they are all baby makers and lovers, they do compose but are mostly into hip hop. So long to composers like Chopin, you won't see that anytime soon. Bring on the baby makers.

Chopin's awesome. I have to correct your claim that I "know nothing". I am the world foremost authority on my opinion. In my opinion it's played too fast.
dont swear or curse anyone for making hiphop or making babies, if they cant compose songs like this then so what?i have a suggestion, instead of telling people to try composing something like this song, why dont u urself compose a song like this? yeaa then if u think contemporary composers are babymakers or whatever, why dont u urself then continue chopin's work by composing classic songs now? not telling others those contemporary composers to compose classic?

Well some people love classics, some people dont, thats why they dont compose classic. its similar like telling chopin to compose hiphop. if u tell today's composers are babymakers/rubbish why dont u make your own classic songs then?i will STOP here.
it is great playing, however the waltz is'nt supposed to be played in 16ths and 32's :P I do believe the tempo is 3/4 and 16ths in the chorus but still, it's a great interpretation. To pull it off this fast takes a hell of alot of skill, believe me I tried :P 10/10 :) nice piece
we have to thank you for posting....you know...Italy is a strange country..there's time for the pape's delirium every day on the italian tv news but there was no time to announce the S. Fiorentino's death :)

i like the phrase where "piu mosso"- his right hand is agile and lively, quite different to other performers playing like. but it's that a little bit fast coz waltz is for ppl dancing in the past, and i think that ppl in the period of time would play it a little slower for dancing.
Great!! I wanna tell to those people who say he plays too fast that he plays Chopin!! What do you expect? It's not a praeludium, it's a walse! And the walses are all fast...IT WAS JUST GREAT!!!!
I agree most waltzes of Chopin are fast, but this one is supposed to be beautiful and romantic in the beginning (which I congratulate him for doing so), but in the arpeggios, I would suggest he do them a little slower so that the listener can easily feel the music. All in all, this man has a spectacular technique!!!
No need to do that, when you have your notes you have especific instructions to play the song wright. In this case he was interpretatin the song on to his own way, not Frederic's way.
Ahah, and who says that Fryderick played his music slowly?? Have you ever heard Chopin playing his music while he was alive?? NO!!! Unless you were born 200 years ago, and I suppose you weren't born 200 years ago, you can't know the personal opinion of the composer. Anyway, a personal technique and a personal way to play is the right way to feel the music...in my opinion, of course
There's nothing remarkable about it. All one has to do is hit the right keys at the right time and the instrument plays itself.
-- Johann Sebastian Bach
You know the personal interpretation of Frederic Chopin's pice because HE WROTE IT! F-Y-I In general, when a pice is published, all instructions on how to play it come on the music sheet. This pice has instructions of playing it "pui lento" and "pui mosso" with "tiempo guisso". But anyways, what would you know?
Imagine if someone were to loudly exclaim "BAM!" each time he utters a comeback. Now take that person, and replace his face with yours. Yes. You are a douche-bag.
yes, I agree, it's a bit too fast, but he can AFFORD to play this way...probably he wants to underline the contrast between the three themes in the composition...
I like this performance, this one sounds very similar to that of Horowitz'.
The only different is that the B part was played fast right away, yet Horowitz started slow. Otherwise, it is just a copy of Horowitz'. Anyway, I really like this style.
Wow, how nice to discover this great pianist! I very much love his interpretations, and though I'm a big fan of Pollini for chopin interpretations, this talentuous pianist is really growing on me! Thanks for the post!
He was a very great pianist but not known well enough. Fortunately, he recorded many things. I only recently discovered him. I wish someone would post his arrangement of the Rosenkavalier waltzes which I think are marvelous. Actually it is his arrangement of the Otto Singer transcription of the waltzes, and he adds so much to them. Do you know if Fiorentino's arrangement is published? I would like to get a copy if that is possible.
very nice overall, but way too fast in the b section in my opinion.. it sort of kills the melody, but yes, you can surdently hear the experience of the man.. ♪
...Such a gem to find on Youtube! I'm a great admirer of Fiorentino's pianism, and I don't think Italy has had so many great pianists who could feel totally at ease and show their full genius playing the most charming miniatures (or Transcriptions) and the monumental works, too. His artistic vocabulary was simply unreal.

Sure you may be able to play this song after practising for only 2 hours, but you may not be able to play it nicely.

If you cant "connect peoples' souls" when you play the song, you haven't truely learnt it...

I have the score, although I just realized I only have the first page. I'm going to check the website I got it from to see if they have the rest.
