it was purely GENIUS of Ilaiyaraja sir to zero in on kamal hassan to sing this song . he gets his palakad accent perfectly right .

@wintercherry100 Yes, no doubt SPB would've sung in a better voice than Kamal since he's a professional & accomplished singer. But the highlight in the song is the Palakkad Iyer malayalam accent which SPB cannot bring. Only Kamal can do justice to the proper malayalam diction. So I think Ilayaraja made the right choice to select Kamal over SPB for this song.

It is Palakkad Tamil, not Malayalam. The translation is very basic. Misses a lot of the essence.
