  • remember watching this. cried like fuck when terri walked out.

  • this man's work in preservation and education has given voice to those without, he is nature's voice. The things I have learned from him, the creatures he has seen and shared with us has changed my world and has led me into whale conservation, his passion has given me my passion and I thank him for it. What he does will help change and save the world, self righteous zealots will not.

  • It's absolutely disgusting that retarded Christians send him death threats because he doesn't credit 'god' in his programs. The Fucking brainwashed disabled idiots are dragging the human race down.

  • Sir David Attenborough, King of the Wild!

  • i have watched wildlife tv with this guy my hole life and it is amazing he got me glued to the tv and allways excited just by the way he talked and acted and if i saw other wildlife shows with other people it was boring it didnt have his spirit and excitment he is the greatest wildlife man in the world and all time past and future

  • A truely great man, I think people need to show him some respect by not bickering.

  • When this man passes over it will be one of the saddest days of mankind. He (to me) is the Charles Darwin of the Modern Day. Long Live Sir David.

  • what get's me is Davids voice it just puts me in to a trance.

  • All those arguing back and forth about irwin and Attenborough need to keep in mind what the 2 were doing: irwin did his show with a heavy emphasis on *entertainment* thus bringing on some "action" from the animal. Any "educational" value from irwin's work was pretty much an aftereffect of his efforts.

Attenborough on the other hand is NOT after entertainment but his efforts are an effort for *education*.

Some preferred irwin's, some preferred Attenborough's.

  • What a champ

  • wicked bloke learned so much from him about wildlife and insects

  • is his name not sir david by now?

    i hope it is..

  • @TheIRiShCaSaNoVa

    It is.

  • Truly an Inspiration!!

  • One of the greatest man on Earth.

  • David Attenborough

    A Legend and Un-replaceable.

    Long live

  • Hero.

  • wow fighting off a bull elephant seal with a stick.

    he's awsome!!

  • Your the wanker man. He taught alot of people alot about animals and especially crocs. and to learn what he did you have to go out there and roll your sleves up. He didnt harm any animals.... Do some research before you slam a guy who died doing what he loved. and his Family!!!

  • @MrButters09 You're an idiot, Steve Irwin was a committed conservationist and environmentalist.

How many nature reserves and environmental protection charities have you set up?

    Ignorant twat.

  • @BooMeRLiNSKi

he got that massive land for his own personal gain, this land belongs to his family and he only got it approved because he mask it as a zoo

his family made millions from torturing animals and sea life and just because he use the word "environmentalist" doesnt make him one..heres an idea..leave the fuking animal alone? how about that you dumb mother faking dog

  • Comment removed

  • @MrButters09 You seem to have an awful lot of ire for the man just because he handled snakes and caught crocodiles (something he was considered an expert on), your imaginings of a guy running around leaping out on wildlife is simply inaccurate.

  • I don't remember that bit with him fighting off the bull Elephant Seal! Pretty awesome. I love the use of the Sigur Ros music here too.

    David's a real life hero.

  • If anyone deserves to live forever it's Sir David Attenborough! A remarkable man who has done more for natural conservation than anyone else!

  • I look upon Sir David Attenborough with the deepest admiration and without question, my personal role model. Thank you so much for enriching the millions of people who have watched your programs. An award well-deserved.

  • Makes me cry every time.

  • Thank you David Attenborough.. you have made it easy to see something that was so difficult to capture...

  • What year was that at 4:14?

  • If Steve Irwin had lived to be 80 then I think he would have been as greatly admired as Sir David Attenborough. I miss him terribly and still believe that he was the pinnacle of wildlife enthusiasm. Sir David Attenborough on the other hand has been just aout everywhere, seen just about everything and presented it on television in such a powerful, efficient, moving and educational way that no one will ever replace him. He is not only best of British, but best of homo sapiens.

  • With Steve Irwin, I always thought he was getting off on antagonising the nastiest wild animals.

Eventually, one of them got the better of him. It was inevitable the way he carried on.

David has never deliberately poked a snake just to get it to try to spit in his face.

That's the difference between exploiting nature and respecting it.

  • I don't think Irwin exploted wildlife anymore than David, both film them for money or their own enjoyment. Irwin loved animals and did so much for conservation and taught so many people to love wildlife. You're completely wrong.

  • I've got to agree with jazzx251, I was Australia a few years back and lots of the Aboriginals I talked to expressed their disdain for Irwin. They stated that he antagonized the animals, invaded their space and what he was doing was wrong. I have to agree. Irwin was passionate about animals and I have no doubt he was thinking about their best interests, but wild animals aren't toys. It was not a good precedence to set for a wildlife conservationist.

  • "David has never deliberately poked a snake just to get it to try to spit in his face."

If Steve Irwin did that, it would be to see how it'd react as a predator. To say that Irwin exploited nature is ignorant, considering his efforts to raise awareness about conservation.

And "antagonising the nastiest wild animals" and "one got the better of him" are misleading, since he was killed by a stingray, notably non-threatening unless stepped on.

  • I used to enjoy his show in a sort of "holy shit! This guy is both brave and stupid!" kind of way. You could never change channels when he was on.

For me, it was about the derring-do of Steve Irwin, the animals were dangerous props. He was nature programme's Evil Kneivel.

He wouldn't just poke the snake once to show its reaction. He had to do it multiple times to show off. It was more like bull-fighting than a nature documentary. A macabre spectator sport, man v beast. Modern bear-baiting.

  • But you see, I don't buy that; I don't buy that he poked any snakes, let alone multiple times. I've seen him demonstrate how they react in the wild, although it was always in controlled situations and, with snakes, all I've ever seen Steve do is hold them by the tail or stand by as they're collected by a handler. It also ignores everything Steve did with kangaroos, dingos and everything else. Steve got close to dangerous animals but, generally, left them alone (spiders, for example).

  • Are we talking about the same guy?

    He wrestled a crocodile bodily!

The snake poking thing is true - he was showing what happens when you antagonise a spitting cobra.

OK - let's see what happens for educational purposes - but, he didn't wear any goggles (why???), the snake spat at him and narrowly missed his exposed eyes. It was all about being a dare devil for the audience's entertainment.

  • My God. Love Attenborough.

  • He is god... he knows everything about all life created on earth. Almost as though he created it himself!

  • David walking towards tribesmen saying "good afternoon" must be as good a definition of an english gentleman as you will find!

  • damn right

  • The fact he had the courage to do that, and that they civilly responded shows that

    a) He's extremely brave or extremely naive

    b) Extremely knowledgeable about how to defuse a situation involving any primate

    c) Knew that running away was certain death and tried something else

    Classic - what a guy!

  • Lol. when she stops at 1.03 i thought the microphone was that tall.

    btw, I <3 D.A

  • David Attenborough = Legend. I could watch any programme he made all day long.

  • He is the best man evolution has ever made.

  • No- that was Charles Darwin

  • From 6:50 to the end... Listen to him. That's what it OUGHT to mean to be an Englishman.

  • like another father to me.

...and Sigur Ros' music, what an honor to soundtrack this!

  • what is the song called? do you know?

  • Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla

  • david deserved this award ALOT! R.I.P. steve urwin.

  • my idol sir david

  • I can't believe that women said the "animals rely on us to protect their future", without "us" most of the animals on this earth wouldn't even be extinct. It's our presence on this earth which is killing everthing on it.

  • Lol! Irwin being compared to Attenborough!?!

Steve was great but he wasn't even in the same league as Attenborough. As 'meanvince' said maybe in a few decades he might have been comparable but he was nowhere near.

  • He is the best man God has ever made

  • too bad he doesn't believe god even exists then, right? what a disrespectful comment, claiming "god" made this man. this man got where he is now thanks to his own hard word and dedication, not because of your supposedly infallible yet coincidentally extremely flawed "god".

  • i would not say that 4 sure.

  • He's trying to say that Attenborough is a great man. Put the God issue aside for now and pay respect to the legend.

  • David Attenborough es un ídolo!! Una persona especial. Es emocionante ver como lo homenajean en vida. Recomiendo vean los videos q hizo de "la vida privada de las plantas", son 7 u 8 capítulos.

  • royalaxeman you don´t understand that steve did more for wildlife than anyone else in the world.

but attenborough did of course also a good job

  • For a moment, I thought you were being serious. But, if you were, you clearly haven't seen Sir David's body of work. I loved Steve - his death was tragic - but he had another 4 decades of pioneering the recording of wildlife before he could match Attenborough.

  • it saddens me irwin is compared with attenborough. ones a genius scientist, the other an adrenaline junkie rewarded for stupidity. 10 points if you can work out who. from an aussie.

  • I have all the series of episodes on DVD from Sir David Attenborough. His dedication towards both Mother Earth and the BBC are remarkable. The DVD episodes are absolutely beautiful and informative for not just children and animal lovers, but for all!

  • David Attenborough and Sigur Rós in one video!!! (gasp)

    I am on sensory overload!

  • good afternoon... what a gentleman

  • David Attenborough IS THE MAN nuff said

  • how comes the man not a sir yet but his bro is. or is he

  • They both are - Sir David and Sir Richard.

  • Yep, he was knighted a while back. Sir David Attenborough! Pity they can'd find a higher award than that.

  • "King David I" would be nice

  • I don't know if David Attenborough met Steve Irwin but I think if they had they probably would have become very good friends.

  • I think he did but only once or twice... I think Sir David went over to Steve's zoo but I'm not sure...

  • David Attenborough is not a simply a National Treasure, but the entire world's priceless pearl.

  • Attenborough rules!!!!!!!

  • gotta luv that attenborough

  • I admire the great Sir David Attenborough. He is such a great inspiration. Thank you ssoo much for posting this.
