Here in eastern Australia, whaling was big in the town of Eden. No ships, just whalers rowing boats. They had a special relationship with local orcas. The orcas would help whalers herd passing whales in2 the bay, 4 harpooning. In return, they got their favourite part 2 eat – the tongue. Orcas would even alert whalers when other whales were near, by tail slapping in front of the cottages where some of them lived.
I don't know when whaling in Eden ceased. It was still happening in the 1930's.
@MegaPlanelover nooooo ahaha not in wild, captivity maybe yes because they're under alot stress which leads to madness and have been known to kill trainers, but these guys they're just playing with there food probably offing it to the fisher men :) orca's are very friendly, very intelligent and very beautiful :)
There is only one documented attack on a human by KWs or Orcas IN THE WILD. In the mid seventies a surfer off Pt. Sur was grabbed but immediately released unharmed, He was wearing a wetsuit and was probably mistaken for a sea lion.
wow what an awesome experience, i went on a whale watching tour down the georgia straight yesterday and we encountered 3 pods of killer whales. they were j,k and l pod. truly an amazing experience. we were lucky cause they hung out by our boat. we saw two humpback whales swimming and1 female with a baby, she was distressed cause all three pods were in this area and she was trying to protect her little one. she was thrashing her tail on the water continueously.
Are transient ones the fish eating kind or the seal eating and whale eating kind?
