@ARandomCanadian You got to be kidding me. 200 lbs is peanut. I'm 190 lbs and still can easily lift somebody twice my weight rather easily. Given that those guys cannot squat/deadlift as much as me, still 200 lbs is not much. And most fit people are only around 180 lbs or less.
@ARandomCanadian Yes it can, it's pure leverage, my buddy weighs about 215 Ibs and I train this move with him every day, in the gym. You aren't just picking him up, relying on your muscles. You notice how he puts his leg behind the victim and twists to an angle on the guy? It gives him leverage. This move is like a mix between a Judo throw and a Wrestling takedown.
ever since i quit mma at elite mma i feel like ive gotten better cuz of watching youtube videos i even learned a gogoplata grappling techiniques and a shitload of combinations i wouldnt have thought of looks like i threw my parents money down a shithole for half a year hahaha
nice move. But...there is always a "but"... street mode when you weight 100lbs soaking wet and the guy with your head is 250lbs...... This will be some problem. I still like it! (because I weight 250 ;-))
@salvationwar This is different from the one in "Never Back Down". The movie one is actually a bit better. Instead of bringing your left arm around the left side of his head, you shoot it to the right side of his head and curl it around his head.
@Quig2k7 u cant finish a choke from sidecontrol, all he would have to do is crossface and he'd easily be out.and if he holds on all that would do is make the other guy loss more energy so hes basically hurting himself
@Quig2k7 Yeah, and you're also slamming them into a side control position, where they can't finish the submission, and where your head won't hit the mat if you're slamming him correctly.
@Quig2k7 Yeah he could, actually inexperienced grapplers will most likely hold onto your head after the takedown, but now you aren't being choked, and if they're going to hold onto the headlock then it's just a simple pass to the mount to get out of it.
@salvationwar You make a great point. I was just about to say I got choked even while I was mounting the guy once but then I read your correction. This is something that I was never taught but I have experienced in sparring outside of gyms.
damn. u guys r awesome. watching u guys is the next best thing than actually doing a real mma class. especially if ur parents wont let u do one. . . .
haha yah i tried telling em that and they said i already do karate (but it doesnt teach u how to fight from the ground, that's the problem). and, my dad watches ufc from time to time and he knows it can be dangerous, so he wont lemme. and they wont lemme do wrestling in high school, which sux too
wrestling is what got me into mma. ive been wrestling for 3 years now and just that little expierience has helped me pick up on a lot of mma moves. highschool wrestling is a perfect start im suprised ur parents think karate is any safer lol
My friend once got me with a guillotine before I even knew what it was ... we were just play wrestling, wish i would've known this back then. He'd've been surprised lol
wat i usually do is if the guy has a guillotine on my but has his legs straight foward in front of me i do a double leg and swing around into half guard. or if land in his guard i'd choke him with my shoulder.
no cuzz then your in side control and the pressure on your throat will be relieved and u will be able to breath i recomend goin to the north/south as soon as you can if he is still holding on and work from there
most guillotines are done on the ground you hardly see that submission hold done standing...so the move wont really help a lot if your down on the ground with the guillotines on you
that move is bad teaching thats like trying to hip toss a state level wrestler its doesn't work terrible technique. attacking the wrist and keeping balance control is key.
So would this move work if he is a lot stronger than you and if you went for the leg, he would just tighten up the guillotine and you wouldnt have the strength to continue??
ppl asking what if he still has the guillotine on. it wont be on if u r out to the side of him think about it. also if he is on his back and u r over him then there wouldnt be any pressure on ur neck even if he was at the right angle.
I train with a guy who is 6' 2" so i have a tough time with fending off a standing giultoinne. This move wouldn't work on him cause I don't have the arm length to reach down to control his leg.
FYI if guy has guillotine you're prob screwed if you're like me. I let my dad put it on me and tried to escape, before I could even try (literally 2-3 seconds later) I was out on the floor. Guillo's are deadly.
True, but it's a good idea to try an escape, because "if you're like me", I don't like to have blemishes on my official record be it MMA or grappling. Guillotines may get tight, but if you attempt this technique before it's fastened in, you can indeed escape. Rampage Jackson has used it several times, he may even be the guy who invented this takedown. I couldn't give you the exact name(s) he used it on, but watch any Rampage HL vid and u'll see it.

ya that works for big guys but if its a 200lbs guy choking the 160lbs guy, that slam won't work

even if he has ur head its hard to make a guillotine work from side or half guard
gmatt911 2 years ago
I think his point is that if your head is in his lock and you slam his back to the ground, then your head is going into the concrete.

If you slam him into side control like how they showed, the position of his choke isn't going to be strong so you can just get out of it.
