Im just watching this video because of my friend in the hospital with tripple phenomia and it damaged a valve in his heart. When i watched just half of this video i felt very faint and became difficult to breath. I dont know why i can watch videos on brain surgery but when i see something to do with the heart and lungs i become like this. what's happening with me? lol
Just found out today that I will need a mechanical aortic valve replacement. I'm 39 and have been in athletics all my life and no one ever caught my murmur and the fact that I was born with 2 cusps. Started seeing doctors because I've been dizzy for about 6 months and thought it was an inner ear / vertigo related ailment. Anyone else experience dizziness associated with the murmur / aortic valve issues? God bless all of you.
@rcdixon76 I just under gone this operation and the success proffessors perform is unbelievable. I was very scared before I did the operation even more once I was about to commit suiside but now that it is all over I look to the brighter side. Not to scare you, be prepare to suffer some pain until the chest wound heals but once it is ok u will have an easier like. good look and take courage
@fatzie88 there's this bone cement they use in little amounts to place the sternum back together and a laser to seal it up. People use it in plastic surgery for their nose and cheek bones
@1RadicalOne The main issue that arises and accounts for the overall morbidity and/or mortality from aortic surgery is embolization; that is when an embolus (blood clot, air bubble, etc) is formed due to the surgery. Other issues are less compromising. You can look this up in "Complication in Cardiothoracic Surgery Avoidance and Treatment" (Little, Merril; 2nd edition).
I might have to get this done one day because of a operation I had when I was two, but hopefully not..

Question:
Does opening the aorta not compromise its integrity, its resistance to pressure?

@1RadicalOne they sutured with big wires
