  • Lucky the TNI soldiers are crap shots

  • oh yeah i remember this when Timor Leste had memorandum of freedom, one TNI died on that time

  • Tell him to put the fuckin' gun down..

    Translator..what?

  • Fucking Hell really shows how untrained the TNI was, just shooting without even trying to work it out. Could of at least signalled.

  • Hello-hello dont shot... Jangan Tembak...

  • @Ganjawarrior Yes that's him, is this firefight in that book too, I was going to say it's in his 2010 book "Counterinsurgency". The entire engagement is explained on pages 109-145 in that book. Great book to read.

  • Did any of the counterinsurgency heads out there notice that that's Lt Col David Kilcullen on the radio at about 1:10? There are some photos from what I believe is this firefight in his 2008 book "The Accidental Guerrilla".

  • I saw an extended clip of this on the news! If I recall the contact took place at a border post between East and West Timor. Afterwards once both sides had met they discovered that their maps detailing the exact location of where the East and West border varied. If I recall the Australians were still in East Timor and the TNI had incorrectly set up their post a few hundred metres inside the East thus believing Australia had crossed the border. I may be mistaken but thats how the news told it.

  • @Ironside287 That's correct. The TNI were using outdated maps made by the Dutch (SERIOUSLY old!).

  • A little advice from asian guy: When handing out items to asian people, hand them over using right hand, not left. it's rude to hand them over using left hand. nor does receive to receive an item. receive them using right hand...

  • @lipanmarder Good advise for a westener going to an asian region for a holiday. Not applicable for an Australian soldier or any soldier deployed as part of INTERFET. To take your rifle out of your right hand while on patrol just to hand over or receive an item could be a fatal mistake, especially when you see what happened in this video.

  • @jjink69 oy just fricken stusurf1 again if my memory serves me right the policeman behind the palm tree was killed in this contact. 1 RAR 2001 tour we got all the info

  • @stusurf1 yeah man thats right but the guy behind the palm tree is TNI, not sure if he was killed as well but there was more than just the one Polri. This was quickly covered up by the Indos as we didnt get to do a battlefield clearance due to the fact that the contact happened over the border.

  • @jjink69 yeah of course and well done guys

  • @jjink69 They got the militia out of there pretty quick too didn't they? Didn't want to world to see that they were supporting those murderous bastards. Apparently the militia were planning to enter East Timor from this village to go on rampage. Indo SF were training them and going into East Timor with the militia.

  • @Riyun72

never change that fellows.....what they did to the "Povo Martir de Timor Leste" they could not change the Faith and theHearts of the Timorenses.

  • @lipanmarder Mate it's called weapon handling, you NEVER take your hand off the pistol grip in order to open or return fire in an instant.Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.Should be grateful other nations have come to their aid instead of worrying about which hand we use.

  • @lipanmarder Deal with it.

  • @lipanmarder In my experience, when you're handing out food, they'll take it from which ever hand its offered - just like everyone else in the world.

  • @lipanmarder Is that because you dont know how to use toilet paper?

  • Go 2RAR - The ROE sucked over there and UN has a lot to answer for. I went back 2001 and ROE seemed to get worse. I think there is way too much pressure on soldiers nowdays & I agree with some of the other comments why wait to be fired upon, shoot first then ask the fucking questions. The Indon military destroyed East Timor, it was them and anyone who thinks differently well YOU werent there! Op Stabilize

  • @TrevF250 It was called "Op Stabilize", not Op "Create an international incident and start a war with Indonesia that Australia could never ever ever win", you fucking moron. Just because you're a racist cunt doesn't mean that our well trained and professional fighting force should act out your sexual fantasies of slaughtering asian people. If you remember there were NO TNI in TimorLeste at the time, only militia. To take combat to the TNI would have been suicide for Australia.

  • @pbl826 You ignorant too, pal go see what your "great" army is doing to unarmed people in West Papua. You throw around this world "racism" and yet you uneducated twit write racist things yourself. Are you that thick in the head you dont realise what you type? Wanker Indo SF were found in Timor.

  • They were doing the same its to show no thret otherwise it could get ugly. This is the reason our boys are there becouse we have to keep an eye on the indo's. They dont care about ET and make more trouble then they fix,it was clear as day that an Australian platoon was on patrol. The rebals dont have a platoon in all camo and aug's but they still fired on us. Your sposed to identify the target for friendlys

  • Do not fire on him unless he fires on you? Fuck that. You may never get the chance to fire back. Australia's rules of engagement suck. What do you think an American soldier would do in the same situation? Shoot the prick that's what.

  • @shazdee This is why Australian soldiers are well repected.

  • @shazdee Just like Australia,NewZealand has the same rules of engagement,i served about 4 months in Timor. Our armed forces are praised for our efforts to preserve life.We only fire if a fire arm is visable or if we can clearly see whos shooting.

  • WTF are Aussie Soldiers doing advancing on our enemy with their hands in the air?!?

We've kicked the Indo's arses in two wars now, those cunts should be bowing to us!

We live in a pathetic new world!

  • Mate, they weren't, nearly all of this footage was filmed from the rear of the contact as this is where the cameras were in the formation.

8 platoon led which consisted of three sections and PHQ (the lead section drew most of the enemy fire). After 8 pl came CHQ which included some interpreters and MPs, then there was a couple of sections from 7 pl.

We were traveling in staggered file with about 10 m spacing, this meant the camera crew ....

    ..continued

  • ... were about 500m behind the lead scouts when the first shots rang out.

During the firing some sort of discussions were started which lead to the cease fire/Mexican standoff. In the footage you are referring to this is elements of CHQ and an interpreter moving forward, with the camera crew to the center of 8 platoons position. This is where the meeting at the end of the footage took place.

I hope this clears things up a bit.

  • OK, understood.

    Thanks for that mate.

    Good job BTW.

  • @pardus762 If they ever brought the battle to us, we'd be finished. It doesn't matter what you think when you stroke your penis, the TNI is a massively larger and more modern military force than the ADF - they would take Brisbane in a day, with Sydney and Melbourne shortly thereafter. Do you really think we should be pissing them off by causing an international incident needlessly? Just to satisfy your sexual desire to see Asian people slaughtered? It frightens me that people like you VOTE.

  • @pbl826 i agree that TNI is larger than the ADF,but your comment about "TNI being more modern than the ADF...." is just plain WRONG!

  • @pbl826 indon military might be big, and get lotsa guns and ammo from US but mate my bro's in West Papua been fighting them with bow and arrows, old WW2 Arisaka rifles and some captured M16s but they still cant get us. there are huge tracts of jungle in West Papua that even Kopasus is not able to enter without getting beat up. They not used to fighting modern well trained, educated drilled and motivated conventional armie, Aussie boys would smash the shit out of them.

  • @pbl826 There's one flaw in your plan to take over Australia... how will the TNI get here? Australia has air and naval superiority in the region and what amphibious ships Indonesia has are mostly from World War 2, their newest are extremely slow "ferry's". Indonesia can't do shit, it doesn't even have the money to arm its army with modern main battle tanks let alone IFVs and maps for a country they had owned for about 30 years.

  • @Kirkzzy Not to mention we would mow them down at about a 20:1 ratio

  • @Kirkzzy. Not to mention Australias Defensive Battle plan and the biggest factor of all- the weather.....

  • @pardus762 your kind of an idiot . they are not surrendering or anything they were showing that they are friendly and there not going to fire on them mate dont even comment on a military video if you dont even know anything about the australian army

  • If it had of been yanks that were contacted...... they would have lost a battalion & called for air strikes!!

  • @DenwarTheoriginal LOL and killed some friendlies

  • @DenwarTheoriginal so what kill the dirty bastard

  • those Indons are bloody lucky they stopped when they did, otherwise they would've had a very bad day...........

  • lol i can imagine what the TNI officer must of been thinking at the end of the video.

    "my bad"

  • the other blokes must been shit scared for a sec there. Aussie Aussie Aussie stay safe

  • Aussie soldiers doing what they do best, well done boys!

  • That's the old LT Kilcullen on the radio isn't it?

He's now advising the US government on counterinsurgency.

  • It is David Kilculen although i believe he was a major at the time.

  • Yes mate, thats right.

  • i remember this on the news when it happened, the aussies were using current indonesian military maps for references for the border etc and the indonesians were using outdated dutch maps, the indonesians believed the aussies were past the border into their territory or something like that, or havent i remembered it correctly

  • INDONESIANS Killed east timorese

  • fuck me dident know there was still fighting going on there

  • This happened 10 years ago this October.

  • Read the date on Video.

  • Did an Indo get killed here?

  • Yes.

  • The Indon Military were so tough murdering innocent people and destroying their homes. I get a warm feeling inside knowing that 2 RAR popped a few of these rates this day.

  • The Indons were so tough against the defenseless East Timorese. The murder and destruction they had done over there was beyond any of our imaginations. You're right boreddili that was a look of relief and I would of liked to fuck more of them up. I was about 5km from when PTE Manning was mutilated. I still hate Indon Military they could never beat us in battle so they had to do what they do best and kill innocent people in Bali. Good work jjink69 you lads set the standard

  • we should have wiped these cunts off the face of the earth peace time government have let our military become small and weak rudd better do sumthing about ill hopefully b doing my part soon.

  • 2 weeks and Im in.

  • shit happens on borders

  • Well if you read the facts on the East Timor crisis you'd realise that the reason the Indon soldiers were so relaxed is because a lot of them were ON DRUGS half the time. :D

  • Agreed, they always seemed to grin when trying to hide their true feelings. POLRI Scum.

  • They were smiling in relief. Scared the fuck out of them when the NZ boys took that fucker apart bit by bit for mutilating they're mate. Bit by bit with a rifle at long range you indo hypocrites. Most of the Indo army are ragheads and also have attitides like fuckwits who deserve a good flogging. I like the girls though!.

  • the dumb shits had old maps "so they say" and thought the Aussies were in Indo

  • Full on!!

    Peace

  • Shoot the cunts onya boys

  • No worries mate. In fact there was 1 confirmed dead (Polri-Indo police). Unofficially I believe there were more but this was covered up by the Indonesians as they did not want to be seen as working along side mititia forces (which they were).

The more I think back about it, we got lucky, I find it harder and harder to believe that none of us were shot that day.

  • Great work, keep them coming ifyou can mate.

    5*

  • A young David Kilcullen pictured speaking into the radio, I believe.

  • Thats correct

  • Top video, thanks for putting it up.
