  • Amazing performance! This is as good as the original.

  • @audiotrax2000 Thanks

    We really appreciate that.

Is that you playing the Gibson acoustic?. Sounds really good

  • @mark33033: Yes, it's me playing, but it was just off the cuff noodling to try to sell the guitar. I've since lowered the action so it plays a lot easier. ( 'cause it didn't sell ). I really need to post some proper vids of my music..... You guys really are GOOD! I just subscribed to you. Hurray for talent, and music with feeling and melodies ;)

  • Nice version of a great classic song. You guys sound great.

  • Well done!

  • I've just seen a face, actually, it was Macca looking at an After-Math Album cover....Any connection to this group???

  • wow! Very nice cover!

  • Sounds like the drummer never read the lyrics. This is a very sad song of love lost. The drummer would rather go to war.

  • I was at that show. Jeff Stoll

  • I was at that show. Jeff stoll

  • You guys nailed it on too many levels to even list. An amazing performance.

  • Thank You. Means alot

  • BEST VERSION I EVER HEARD. YOU GUYS NAILED IT.

  • Excellent cover! Well done Mark

    A lot of memories!

  • their up-beat version is really good...............great tune

  • Know what you get when the Left Banke meets the Four Tops? AFTERMATH ! Excellent in every respect guys!

  • Wow! Great job.

  • harpsichord? Maybe one of the guitarists could play that part on a keyboard rather than the guitar. Also... The backround harmony doesn't move around like that. It's mostly one note... less vibrato too please.

Over all very good... sorry about the nitpicking.

  • Great job. Needs to be a bit slower though.

  • great !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I like the little staccato thing and the chord shifts at the middle eight -- a unique play-off on the original.

  • Great cover guys! Spot on! You guys sound great. The singer sounds a bit like Eric Carmen, which is nothing to be ashamed of, he had some great pipes. Wish I coulda seen this live!

  • Wow, what a terrific cover!!! Thanks for posting so I could hear it.

  • Thanks Lulu

  • ~ This was beautiful...thank you so much.~ lulu

  • Allright Aftermath! Loved the Left Banke original in '66. The 4 Tops cover in '67 was pretty good, but I didn't hear Southside Johnnys 1986 recording until today. Really love the vocals in that.

  • Wow.. Very good cover of this groovy song. it sounds like the original...

  • Woah!!! You guys are amazing, i watched the Incense And Peppermints cover and it was amazing too

  • The two lead singers are so smooth together, they make it seem so easy:) The female lead singer brings an amazing quality to the sound. She's really great. Both singers are great. The whole band is fabulous. I was so enthusiastic about this performance I shared it with my partner, who was equally impressed.

  • thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Excellent job!!! I thought it blended elements of both the original by the Left Banke and the cover recorded by The Four Tops.

  • @aargoldtakesflight Exactly what I was thinking!

  • Nice job!

  • Very good cover of a great song. Thanks

  • Sounding like the original. Love it!

  • Very nice cover. Well done.

  • This is an absolutely wonderful version. I was very much taken aback when I heard it. Thank you! Pam Renee

  • Wow, what a fantastic version!! Thank you :)

  • I have no idea who this band are.....but that is a bloody good cover!

  • It was a true pleasure and surprise to learn this was a cover and not the LEFT BANK performing in some small venue. Your whole style and sound indicates that you obviously have taken very seriously the reproduction of such an old classic rainy day ballad. Please if you are so inclined do share any others you may have and I hope you stay together as a musical combo deserving of much success!!

    -Hank Frealy Ottawa,Ont. CANADA

  • Thank you for the kind comments.

We have some more videos under mark33033

  • I like that you sped it up, you put your own spin on it. You folks did a great job, you sound great.

  • Good thing for Pro-Tools

  • groovy tune ;)

  • great rendition, absolutely (to quote a 60's line) fab..,.

  • hey guys...is there any documentary on Left Banke? i like to know more about the band.

  • I don't know of any.

  • @mark33033

There's also an official Facebook fan page by founding member and bass player Tom Finn (Renée's actual boyfriend at the time)

  • @mark33033

There's an official fan site, but somehow I can't mention that here, lol. It's the band's name, dot nu.

  • Steve Tyler (Aerosmith)on background vocal

  • I always thought the four tops were the original author's of this song and the left banke was covering them. It was only a few days ago that it was vice versa.

  • Too fast....slow it down....enjoy the ride....

  • very nice cover of a LEFT BANKE hit! 5 *

  • Good Job!! Very nice.

  • Wow..good work!..fantastic cover :))

  • The Left Banke was the original band that recorded this song in '66, not the Four Tops. This band is absolutely blow this song out of the ballpark. Even better than the original. Fantastic, man! The best cover of this song by a mile!!!

  • Nice job, they even look like the Left Banke.

  • This is my favorite song...am collecting all the versions...I am looking for that original video in the park...will post when I find it..

  • The original keeps being removed in all it's forms. It's really a shame, as the song is such a hauntingly beautiful ballad. Good luck.

  • i can't find the original video in youtube of Left Banke performing in a park. i saw it about 2 years ago, but i can't find it now. not sure if Youtube has removed it due to some infringement rights.

  • awesome and classy!

  • Congratulations on a fantastic performance which so captures the feel of the original Left Banke version. So many covers after The Four Tops just fail to get the sadness of the song. This is great. Come to the UK some time :o)

  • That guy {girl?} on the organ did a great job. Sounds just like the original version.

  • Really good cover, as I remember the song.

  • it would be nice to see more of the leftbanks this was a big part of my youth that would love to get a chance to revisit my old life renee was one of my nicknames i loved this song raine

  • Thanks goldengrovegfreek

    Went to your page.

Is that really your dog getting your newspaper?

    that was really cool.

  • Actually, Left Banke were first in 66. One of the few times a black band (4 tops) ever covered a white one.

  • Actually, Michael Brown of the Left Banke wrote the song while with the group. He wrote it for his babysitter, whom he had an early crush on.

The Four Tops performed the cover among countless other groups thereafter.

  • no he wrote it about a girl named Renee Fladen who was going with LB bassist Tom Finn and was part of their circle

  • She then broke up with Finn left the scene and they never saw or heard of her again!

  • 021jonnyone, I guess she really did walk away.

  • OMG. Tom Finn!! Did you know them? We did and my gf had such a crush on that guy. LOL

  • @goldenglovegreek59 , This song was written by a member of the Left Banke about the girlfriend of another member. The 4 Tops covered it a couple of years later. I like both versions equally.

  • @goldenglovegreek59 It was actually written by Michael Brown, keyboard player and founder of the Left Banke in 1966. It was then covered in 1967 by the Four Tops but didn't chart until 1968, where it hit #14 on the Billboard Chart.

  • @goldenglovegreek59 Walk away Renee was an Original tune by Left Banke 1966 and was later covered by the Four Tops 1968

    Check out Wikipedia.

  • @ravennaslim

Your absolutely right, thanks for the correction

  • Excellent. One of my favorite songs ever.really tight band.Excellent harmonies.

  • Very good cover of a song that brings back so many memories of my young teen years, first loves, long summer days & evenings and how time flown by seemingly overnight. Have you thought about adding "Love Grows" to your repertoire? Seems like it would fit right in.

  • I remember it well.. Dayton Ohio. Cavern's.. You use the equiptment of a band called the Trojan's.. I wondered what happened to you, think of you often!

    Karol

  • Was not expecting much....I was wrong, nice.

  • Perfect. You nailed it from the first measure. Nice Rickenbacher, too.

  • Good band.

  • I have to watch this at least once every day now, I'm addicted to it! I really like your voice in this song, Mark. It's perfect for it! You would be great doing a Guess Who song like "These Eyes". Maybe you guys could try doing that one sometime.

  • You guys have a killer drummer! Just thought I'd add that! He is really good! And I've seen alot of drummers!

  • Takes guts to try to sing a song and group with such a distinctive sound.

  • Best cover I've heard of this song.

  • hey mark my daughters name is Renee and I like the way you sing it

  • Wow! You have a great voice, Mark! :) Keep it up! Would love to hear you another of the Left Banke's hits, "Pretty Ballerina". Your voice and style would be perfect for it!

  • that drummer is slammin it!

  • Excellent rendition!

  • Wow, great job guys. Love this period of music, something magical was in the air then. Love the Left Banke, also really like Desiree.

  • Great Sound...Talented group

  • i hate covers! this is great..!

  • Excellent attention to the vocals.

  • I was 19 when the original came out, this is a good cover. I like it.

  • Nice job. Let me know if you pass through Nashville.

  • Thanks Sharon, We sure will

  • good stuff! but you don't see many bands wearing the matching outfits. not a big requirement these days . love the rendition

  • Haha That's true. Since we are a 60's band

We are going for the whole look and feel.

I'm just glad we aren't a 70' band with the platform shoes!

  • Yes Mark I could just see you as Ziggy Stardust, haha!

  • Great job recreating a really hard song to replicate.

  • two thumbs up.

  • Well done! Nice presentation, and attention to details. Best of luck to your group.

  • Thanks I went to your videos. You are great!

Loved the whole look and sound

  • Mark,

please post what year this was recorded- EVERYTHING looks 70ish but it can't be, it's just too perfect to be "staged".

    Excellent.

  • Thanks OjaRoy;

We recorded that last summer. We are a 60's tribute band.we do it for fun

  • Thanks for the reply Mark. I stand corrected- 60s. Excellent wardrobe.

  • Wow, its nice to actually understand the words. Like the previous response said, nice version!

  • Nice version. Thanks!
