I don't know why anyone would even mention Opeth, let alone Heritage, on an Obscura video... but since you're all talking more about Opeth than Obscura, I might as well just get this out there.
@ipslonmen I'd love to show your mom this band, if you know what I mean.
If you don't, I mean we'll have an Obscura listening party, discuss the many points we love about the music, and recommend each other different awesome bands to check out. It would be amazing.
@com2010unid I learned guitar by wanking on scales, nowhere near as good as these guys. Going through G Harmonic Minor, I found something that sounded like the *awesome* intro melody.
@AlteredVisionz im not trying to imply that this song is better then the rest and the rest suck. im just saying this by far one of my fav. tracks by them but all there songs are great, honestly in my opinion.
If this song were to be the first song i heard by Obscura and i never heard any other of there songs i would say this is the best band ever. Obscura is the elite of the metal world
@DeathWarrents No offense, but how could it even be possible for someone to know Obscura and not Opeth? Opeth is one of the most well known metal acts in the underground. It's like saying "hey, if you like Testament, you might also like Metallica!"
Again, no offense, but I just find it unlikely that he hasn't already heard Opeth.
@Bassbait I have met a lot of people that haven't heard of Opeth and I know a lot more people who listen to Obscura then Opeth so I said what I said because of what I have stated above.
@DeathWarrents Well, consider the fact that metal websites show that Opeth is second place to Metallica in popularity online... and it's pretty obvious that Opeth is pretty popular. And considering the size of shows that both bands play, Opeth far outweighs Obscura in popularity. But I love both, so it's not a competition at all.
I don't know a single person who actually goes to metal websites and I've listened to Obscura before I even heard of Opeth. Also, just because they're popular on sites doesn't mean some people haven't heard of them.
@DeathWarrents I'm not saying they aren't popular, but Opeth's numbers show all over the place. Opeth's "Heritage" charted at number 19 on Billboard 200 (meaning 19 best selling album in America), "Watershed" charted at 23, and Obscura just doesn't have those numbers. Don't get me wrong, I'm playing a show with Obscura, and I respect them a lot, but I just think that Opeth is much more likely to be known by a metal fan than Obscura.
@Bassbait Obscura is still better than opeth, opeth are popular because they have mainstream elements, like various melodies with clean singing being 100% on their newer albums and honestly opeth without death growls is like earth without air.
@FirePower3006 Opeth is better, and having seen them both, opened for Obscura and met them personally, I don't see any reason to argue about which one is better. Both are good and they do different styles. I just think Opeth is better at what they do than Obscura. I love them both, and Opeth for the most part doesn't actually have mainstream elements because they write songs with tremendous flow. Obscura has the same elements as Opeth just with more technicality and less flow.
@FirePower3006 Heritage, you mean that album that divided fans, used recording and writing tactics atypical of modern metal bands, and went against what everybody expected?
Heritage is not a mainstream album and it doesn't have mainstream elements. If you were to call that mainstream, then so would the part of "Nothing" where they have clean singing. If you've listened to a pop album or even a modern popular rock album, you can tell that Opeth and Heritage are NOT mainstream.
@Bassbait Ok, regardless the new album is why I like obscura better than opeth. And mainstream? Yea all the gay hipsters are now listening to them saying metal sucks when opeth was a DEATH METAL band. Its very annoying to be honest because I was a fan of opeth before that album came out and they just completely fuck their fans in the ass.
@FirePower3006 That just means you're a fickle fan if you let the fanbase get in the way. I don't know any hipsters that listen to Opeth. I've seen them three times, have all of their albums and think they are great. My band has OPENED for Obscura, and they are the coolest dudes you could possibly meet, and I love all three of their albums equally. But I think Opeth is great and I think Heritage was a great album.
@Bassbait I know MANY people that listen to opeth and say metal is old and sucks. Though I don't think you understand just because I love obscura more doesn't mean I don't love opeth! I can not stop listening to april etheral!
@FirePower3006 Well all of the people I know LOVE Obscura and Opeth, and say that only prog metal is good and Thrash Metal sucks. Funny how Watchtower, a Thrash band, was the first prog metal band. And also Voivod, Sadus, and Dark Angel, who pioneered the Prog metal genre. And Vektor is probably tied with Obscura and Opeth for best Prog Band these days. Have you heard Vektor? If not, listen to "Forest of Legend", it's prog majesty, and it's Thrash too.
@Bassbait I like your point but Watchtower aren't any older than Queensryche, although you could argue that early early Queensryche wasn't particularly prog. At any rate Watchtower weren't the first.
@Maddolis My argument is that Queensryche, as well as Voivod, Fate's Warning, and even Megadeth were around basically before Watchtower, but Watchtower was the first one with a prog release of them all.
