i have sorted a new trick for letting defa run loose and getting him to come on command ,i leave his leash attatched to his collar and just let go and for some reason he behaves better, my guess is he thinks i can still control him with the leash so try this folks and let me know if you get results like i do and if not dont be to surprised they are free spirits in very cute bodies!
ok nice video!!!! 5/5 i have 4 norwegian elkhouds and i was woundering if you could give me some tips because i am 13 years old and i am gunna be going to nationals in may 2010. i will be showeing my dog echo........
anyy tips please e mail me or send me a message on youtube plaease thank you so very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i have a handsome boy called Defa aged 3yrs loves everything and everybody except other boy elkys, only prob is he doesn't like to come on command and has great pleasure in making me chase him if he gets out is this typical or am i just in need of a training school? Thanks
What you describe is extremely typical of male elkies- they tend to roam so they can't be kept off leash. Not all male elkies dislike other males, but it's very common for them to be that way, especially the alpha ones. So it sounds like you just have a typical elkhound.
I have a boy one too, he is 8months, named Atlas, and he loves getting out of the yard, what i have found with him is that he knows what the come command means, but because they are such a stubborn dog, he will ignore you because what he is doing is more important. it does get frustrating but i realised that the more frustrated i get with him the more disobedient he gets. he is lucky he is so cute...
@et666007 bear does the same thing its pretty funny i can only get him to come with some cheese hes getting better off his leash he dosent run away as much and he knows sit laydown shake and seems to actually understand me unlike most dogs anyway i wouldnt be worried and if u think u need training school only you know we dont live with you.
Great video, i loved it

I love the elkhound, they are the Nissan of Dogs. Ironically I have a 2007 Altima.

this was great. Where were the nationals? Do they know where they will be next year?

They were in Rochester, Minnesota. They won't have another one until 2010- it will be in Michigan I believe.
