@readbtwnlines i would actually say it's the perfect staying in love song, it's unconditional love, love that survives everything even death. I think this is the best way i have heard love explained ever
Elbow are by far the greatest band to come out of manchester since The Smiths. And before anyone says it; no, I didn't forget about Oasis and yes, I still think Elbow are better :)
@MelPullThePin , Definitely (not maybe) better than Oasis, although I like Oasis as well and these are completely different bands and not really comparable in that way, but at the end of the day I would choose Elbow record with me to an island. Elbow is far more creative and original and hugely underrated band. I recently introduced my friend deeper into Elbow and he's beginning to love it. He didn't although like asleep album (not just yet!) thinking it was too experimental. My favourite album.
@arttsepp I agree completely...although I used to love Oasis...after discovering the likes of Elbow and Radiohead...they just seem slightly egghhh. They don't excite me in the way Elbow do...I suppose there's nothing particularly amazing about them whereas Guy Garvey really does has the voice of an angel.
Asleep in the Back is definitley my favourite album...i'm suprised your friend hasn't taken to it yet...it seemed to be the easiest of their albums to get into for me.
i dont think its fair to say that the doves have nothing on elbow. Appretiate the fact that they both make powerfull music and they both have the abillity to create strong emotions.
I remember going to see the Doves for the first time, in Toronto, where I live, and this band Elbow, were opening up for them. Wow! Elbow and the Doves together, couldn't get any better. But Elbow, they blew me away, especially, when they played "Newborn".
i have never heard a band a great as elbow, every song as a great meaning to it, and really get to you in some way or another. Guy has the most wonderful amazing voice ever...
@MuffinWithAnAxe I can do without Muse - they do very little for me - I HATE their "Queen" sound. Supermassive Black Hole is very cool - then there is this HUGE dropoff.
Damn straight sister! He's got that whole but cheeky thing going on that I think is sooooo hot. And you get the sense from the way he sings and his lyrics that he would treat any woman he's with like a total queen.
guy garvey....you have the greatest voice ever. Obviously Buckley aside. I cannot pay you a greater compliment. Well done lads for sticking to what you do best!!!!
yeah, when you listen to a song you can hear his voice and how good it it, but when you see him live its so much better, he puts in so much effort and projects his voice so well. Guy Garvey = Genius
I heard this on absolute radio last week I CANT believe this song was made in 2001 and Elbow have been around this long. But it took em so long to win a brit award.
When i heard them on Jools holland new year show I knew this band would soon be recgonised to a bigger audience
Guy Garvey is a fucking genius, his music knowledge is available for the world to see on sunday nights with bbc 6 music. This guy has worked with some major bands (currently working with massive attack). Elbow are all about music for the intellectuals not the mainstream coldplay nerds. ps ....Asleep in the back is their revolver
yeah I recently got into coldplay cuz my room mate is practically obsessed. I like em, but I just found this band (like 5 min ago) and they blow cold play out of the water!
No s**t... I just found out they're coming to Toronto in July, but opening for Coldplay. DAMMIT! I have to buy tix for Coldplay to see Elbow?????? NO JUSTICE!
all the proper elbow fans who liked them before the latest album are going to hate me for this. but the first song i ever heard of theirs was grounds for divorce and i dont think any of the old stuff measures up to the stuff on the new album
That was the first song I heard of theirs but in my opinion "Switching Off" is one of the best pieces of modern music out there. It's all good though.
Guy Garvey has the voice of a seer. I saw them support Snow Patrol in 2007 at T on the Fringe in Edinburgh and my life has never been the same since. Gonna see them in March at Corn Exchange Edinburgh - Anyone else going. Just love them!!!
Magnificant song, one of the greatest songs I have heard in fact. Pure beauty, passion and power. My son was born around the time that this came out and every time I hear it it brings about tremendous emotions. I keep meaning to pick up more of there stuff. Music like this deserves to be heard by many.
This is the first time in about 8 years or something stupid that I've seen this video! I love youtube, nearly everything's on here! It's like being reunited with an old friend! I saw this live in 2003 and the atmosphere was ELECTRIC!
"in the eve of our lives, never a choice!!" i adore this song, and it brings back strong feelings, always will, thats the beauty of it. a lost woman, beautiful. heres to your son pal!
If you feel sad or if you feel glad play this song till your ears drop off.I remember when mark and lard played it on radio one for the first time, still one of my all time faves.
Asleep in the back is by far my favorite Elbow album, Scattered black and whites. Gorgeous.
