  • Asleep in the back is by far my favorite Elbow album, Scattered black and whites. Gorgeous.

  • 7 minutes, 37 seconds of musical genius

  • The perfect falling in love song... so touching

  • @readbtwnlines i would actually say it's the perfect staying in love song, it's unconditional love, love that survives everything even death. I think this is the best way i have heard love explained ever

  • Smashing

  • savage.

  • @ 0:39 is that a hohner lx250g?

  • Elbow are by far the greatest band to come out of manchester since The Smiths. And before anyone says it; no, I didn't forget about Oasis and yes, I still think Elbow are better :)

  • @MelPullThePin I couldn't agree more

  • @MelPullThePin , Definitely (not maybe) better than Oasis, although I like Oasis as well and these are completely different bands and not really comparable in that way, but at the end of the day I would choose Elbow record with me to an island. Elbow is far more creative and original and hugely underrated band. I recently introduced my friend deeper into Elbow and he's beginning to love it. He didn't although like asleep album (not just yet!) thinking it was too experimental. My favourite album.

  • @arttsepp I agree completely...although I used to love Oasis...after discovering the likes of Elbow and Radiohead...they just seem slightly egghhh. They don't excite me in the way Elbow do...I suppose there's nothing particularly amazing about them whereas Guy Garvey really does has the voice of an angel.

Asleep in the Back is definitley my favourite album...i'm suprised your friend hasn't taken to it yet...it seemed to be the easiest of their albums to get into for me.

  • i dont think its fair to say that the doves have nothing on elbow. Appretiate the fact that they both make powerfull music and they both have the abillity to create strong emotions.

  • It's so delicate

  • Guy looks really slim in this video.

  • I remember going to see the Doves for the first time, in Toronto, where I live, and this band Elbow, were opening up for them. Wow! Elbow and the Doves together, couldn't get any better. But Elbow, they blew me away, especially, when they played "Newborn".

    Cheers.

  • @joydivision11 the concept of elbow "supporting" the doves is quite ridiculous. i woul've walked out when elbow were done to be honest

  • aww this video is so cute

  • Indeed british bands are by far the best -Muse, Radiohead, Elbow, Blur, Stereophonics (to name a few). Not Oasis though. They're rubbish :D

  • i have never heard a band a great as elbow, every song as a great meaning to it, and really get to you in some way or another. Guy has the most wonderful amazing voice ever...

  • I hear this song and I get "it".

  • MUSE FTW!!!

  • @slamajamaZ Don't find Muse that great at all - don't see how they are regarded as highly as they are.

  • @twochordcool This comment is far too stupid on many levels to even respond to.

  • @MuffinWithAnAxe I can do without Muse - they do very little for me - I HATE their "Queen" sound. Supermassive Black Hole is very cool - then there is this HUGE dropoff.

  • @slamajamaZ lol

  • this song is the epitome of beautiful

  • it's not Northeast England...for sure!

  • Magical - Makes you proud to be British - and this band is very British - Northern English - North Western English........

  • beautiful(:

  • one day like this Live had me in tears! locally. Plus 'seldom seend kid' cuz that's how often i see the bearn.

  • Followed these fellas since Any Dat Now, such a smashing bunch of fellas, timeless songs, wonderful musicians, and really, really great lyricists.

  • One of the best elbow songs...just awesome!

  • One of the few groups out there that simply makes me proud to place them in my CD player or Ipod. Amazing stuff time after time.

  • Saw them at bestival, were epic.

  • Makes me blub every time. No other song generates such emotion.

  • Too right Penguin, Sep 18th @ MEN was amazing and I was so glad to be there, with them, their mums and the choir :)

  • MEN last night. Beautiful.

  • absolutely stunning song.

  • Jesus efiing Christ, this song is so bloody amazing.

    Can't wait until Spetember 18th...

  • same !!! i saw them this time last year :D :D

    they were fantastic

  • Carlsberg don't do greatest songs of all time but if they did............

  • it would be muse

  • oh that would be right up there too!!

  • Simply brilliant

  • sorry, i've got to clear up the mess, just had an eargasm.

  • One track: extreme progression!

  • mint

  • Sorry I aint gonna stop commenting til this song gets boring....when do they reckon the worlds gonna end again?

  • Incredible and epic...music at it's finest.

  • From 5:14 it's pure orgasm

  • this song is so refreshing

the video is amazing such a chill out song

    one of there best.....

  • What year was this released?

  • guy garvey..thinking womans beardy bit of crumpet! <3 <3 <3

  • BAHAHAHA! so funny, but so TRUE!

  • Damn straight sister! He's got that whole but cheeky thing going on that I think is sooooo hot. And you get the sense from the way he sings and his lyrics that he would treat any woman he's with like a total queen.

  • I'm like an obsessed groupie when it comes to this band and I've never been like that. I can't wait until they tour the US again.

  • guy garvey....you have the greatest voice ever. Obviously Buckley aside. I cannot pay you a greater compliment. Well done lads for sticking to what you do best!!!!

  • they did this at the pavillions (plymouth) last night. its was just fucking awesome... as they were. I am fully converted!!

  • good.

    theyre such a brilliant band

    get into their backcatalogue!!

  • neil1963creed, i was also at the plymouth pavillions show, sooo good. guy garvey is really cool

  • Yeah totally agree. What a voice live....just incredible!!!

  • yeah, when you listen to a song you can hear his voice and how good it it, but when you see him live its so much better, he puts in so much effort and projects his voice so well. Guy Garvey = Genius

  • such a shame they didnt do a complete film clip for this song, its kinda like watching a movie without seeing the end

  • I heard this on absolute radio last week I CANT believe this song was made in 2001 and Elbow have been around this long. But it took em so long to win a brit award.

When i heard them on Jools holland new year show I knew this band would soon be recgonised to a bigger audience

  • Guy Garvey is a fucking genius, his music knowledge is available for the world to see on sunday nights with bbc 6 music. This guy has worked with some major bands (currently working with massive attack). Elbow are all about music for the intellectuals not the mainstream coldplay nerds. ps ....Asleep in the back is their revolver

  • yeah I recently got into coldplay cuz my room mate is practically obsessed. I like em, but I just found this band (like 5 min ago) and they blow cold play out of the water!

  • get yourself the doves albums ,,,,,

  • Doves are great, but they've got NOTHING on Elbow.

    Elbow > *

  • @ArseBags

Big shout that mate - fractionally agree with you !

  • No s**t... I just found out they're coming to Toronto in July, but opening for Coldplay. DAMMIT! I have to buy tix for Coldplay to see Elbow?????? NO JUSTICE!

  • hahaha at least they're both good bands lol

  • all the proper elbow fans who liked them before the latest album are going to hate me for this. but the first song i ever heard of theirs was grounds for divorce and i dont think any of the old stuff measures up to the stuff on the new album

  • That was the first song I heard of theirs but in my opinion "Switching Off" is one of the best pieces of modern music out there. It's all good though.

  • yea i mean this older stuff is pretty good. the new stuff is kinda in its own league though.

  • im another johnny come lately (mainly from the habit of avoiding anything post 90s ish)

id always known of their existence but i didnt properly listen to them until all the hora started about their new album

i think this song is as good as many on the new album

i just think that the new one has received the most attention because it works the best as a collection of songs to listen to from start to finish

  • ok i just listened to switching off, it is amazing! thanks for recomending.

  • doesnt get much better does it, they do melancholy better than radiohead, rock better than RHCP, simply stunning

  • great song. no need to be bitches about it though.

  • to good

  • Guy Garvey sounds like a fucking angel, and if I don't stop listening to this song I won't be able to stop crying!

  • Wow! I have never heard this song before, and it has literally taken my breath away. I simply cannot wait to see these guys on 2nd March.

  • i love the first line. makes the song.

  • love that song they did in 'Prodigirl' - the bit with the vinegar made me cry

  • True. More true than life.....

  • I had to fight back the tears when they played at Manchester Apollo. Raw power, pure emotion. Perfect song.!

  • 2:54 change of rythm is brilliant

this album is a masterpiece i fell in love immedialty with the track Powder Blue and had to buy it

One rare band doing rare good music

  • Guy Garvey has the voice of a seer. I saw them support Snow Patrol in 2007 at T on the Fringe in Edinburgh and my life has never been the same since. Gonna see them in March at Corn Exchange Edinburgh - Anyone else going. Just love them!!!

  • Absolutely brilliant. Music like this makes it good to be alive. Going to see them in March, cant wait

  • AWESOME VERSION

  • they get sooo much better with every new release. truly a band that have grown.

  • Magnificant song, one of the greatest songs I have heard in fact. Pure beauty, passion and power. My son was born around the time that this came out and every time I hear it it brings about tremendous emotions. I keep meaning to pick up more of there stuff. Music like this deserves to be heard by many.

  • Get their album Asleep in the back which has Newborn on it (if u haven't already). An incredible album!! Best they have done IMO. Spread the word!

  • I agree with you man. It's one of them CD's you throw in, put your headphones on and just listen to it straight through.

And enjoy evey minute of it.

  • That's so beautiful!

This is the first time in about 8 years or something stupid that I've seen this video! I love youtube, nearly everything's on here! It's like being reunited with an old friend! I saw this live in 2003 and the atmosphere was ELECTRIC!

  • "in the eve of our lives, never a choice!!" i adore this song, and it brings back strong feelings, always will, thats the beauty of it. a lost woman, beautiful. heres to your son pal!

  • I saw them live last night, they were actually incredible! spread the word they deserve it! xox

  • If you feel sad or if you feel glad play this song till your ears drop off.I remember when mark and lard played it on radio one for the first time, still one of my all time faves.

  • AMAZING SONG

  • Insanely amazing song......I cant believe it took me this long to hear about these guys...

  • Very moving vocal on this track.

  • One of my all time favourite songs

Elbow is an amazing band. Unfortunately, they' ll never visit mexico, 'cause nobody (but me) knows 'em.

Elbow and Arab Strap live forever!

  • you probably don't want to know that the record and reherse at the same place one as one of my bands...(heard them mixing once)

  • omg its the song tht i starred in when i was 14!!! omg i love this song!!!

  • I thought I recognized that frog ;o)

  • A Perfect song - what a great band - sends shivers down my spine - more please!

  • This Song Fucking Rocks =]
