Its become pretty common for remote Mexican military units to be paid by drug cartels to help get their loads of dope to the border and to protect them.
BUT just because you see someone dressed a uniform in Mexico doesn't mean they are real military. Cartels often steal or just buy military uniforms too look like military.
Also in Mexico its common for cartels to jam or mess with police radio communication. They often play music after a shooting to show police they can listen and jam any time.

We sat at an official Minute Men observation post that had 10 to 12 people there. Mostly seemed to be retired folks. They had an RV and some four wheelers. Alot of radios and spotting scopes. Alot of the conversation was about how easy it would be to KILL the illegals as they came across. "Good target practise." was one comment.
That weekend really turned me off to the whole Minute Men Movement.
We know there is a need to guard and protect the borders, but these people are just assholes.
