This was always my favourite song of all the Incredible String Band's. I feel so lucky to have seen them at Bickershaw festival in '72. Those were the days, indeed.
I can play it, but it's not the sort of song I could just write the chords down for (needs tabbing or scoring). I know someone who tabbed it, but I'm not sure how he feels about his tabs being distributed. I'll get back to you if he's cool with it.
ISB is definitely an acquired taste. I wasn't too sure about them at first but like many experimental artists of the late sixties like Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead etc after listening closer and with prudence, they have grown on me. Good music doesn't have to come from pretty voices like Sinatra but can come in many forms. No one can truly do justice covering the ISB or Williamson's style because their music is a complete enigma and unique unto themselves. Open your minds to the bliss of ISB
I was early to the party and that fact hasn't helped me get a job or a relationship or what people still call a life. No not at all!!! but i am very pleased otherwise. this is almost my favorite ISB song. . ISB is part of an ancient british tradition where there are fairies and elves and runes, always have been; some made it over here too.
wow ... one of my favorite bands in my teens .... i listen to this and i can smell the hash, incense, and patchouli ... lol ... and i can see the blacklights and posters .... :) what i wouldnt give to relive those days!!!
Everyone of you miss the point. No one could even imagine attempting this approach back then. They had such belief in themselves and truth you all know that this has dissappeared from music today. Please let their spirit at least flourish. have a heart...........40 years on and we still believe......93
Sorry...I didn't mean you but all those detracters contained herein....I think this music exists inside each of us and the ISB had the great chops to make manifest
he was a young ego fueled rock star for a short while ..,then getting alot of attention and special favors Now well no one would really reconize him anywhere if he walked through the village today
them were the god old days and his EGO was a bit set on HIGH. I suppose still love the big huge cd
I was at a Clive Palmer/Mike Heron gig tonight and it was fantastic. While Likky is sadly gone, Mike's daughter Georgia did a nice job on Painting Box, singing and playing a tiny glockenspeil.
Thanks Eyeball266 (what were you on when you picked that name ?). I've ordered the DVD on Amazon. Even if it's only got 'All Writ Down', which isn't one of my favourites, anything which takes me back to my youth, sitting on the floor at the Roundhouse watching 'U', will be greatly appreciated.
What a brilliant video. Where on earth did it come from ? I've only just discovered U Tube, I thought it was for kids. Got any more ISB videos of this quality ? Wasn't Licky something else ?
Very few videos of this quality exist I'm afraid. This is taken from a documentary film made during their peak. There's a video of All Writ Down from, the same film though. I think you can still buy the film from amazon.
It would seem so... I'm attempting feebly to follow in his footsteps. I've got as far as the guitar, mandolin and I'm in the process of learning the whistle and fiddle. I want a gimbri D;
good luck man! is it the total thing and not the bling that artist sing (take a peep at leonard cohen's video here 'tower of song' - i mean the keyboards are making a point, no?:).

Listening to them I transcend the boundaries of human existence. Only a few bands have managed to do so though none as well as they have.

yes Mike Heron
in a shoe store in the village in NY
its a long story
stuff he was saying about YOUNGER audiences and older
and being younger (12)
I took offense when he looked and me and sniffed and sorta cocked his head towards me who was sitting right next to him
He was trying on green boots I think
I bought red and blue suede checker'd sneakers
I was p.oed since I had already met & hung out with BIG icons I had a sorta ALMOST FAMOUS movie kinda youth
I was a jr photojournalist

You got to see U? How envious I am of you, I was born about 40 years too late. If I was born exactly 40 years earlier I'd have been 19 in 1967...
p.s. (I picked this name when I was about 13 and I've just used it for everything since)

Superb to see that people are still finding and loving ISB music. Good luck with the Gimbri. you can always pick one up when you visit India.

Haha, I doubt it, I think it's north African. I think he picked it up in Morocco. I'm attempting to build one actually.
Yes, I'm mad.

Quite right, I cant tell my Sarangi from my Gimbri.
But you should still go to India. Morrocco's not bad either.
